1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThere is no single AAC flag that fixes every FFmpeg error in a looping YouTube meditation stream. First identify whether FFmpeg is failing to initialize or encode AAC, reporting a timestamp problem at the loop boundary, or producing output that YouTube cannot ingest. The fix depends on which of those is happening—and on your FFmpeg build, command, and source files.
Start by capturing the information needed to diagnose the error
Before changing encoder options, save the complete FFmpeg command and the log from startup through the failure. Also record the FFmpeg version/build and inspect the source with ffprobe. Those details distinguish an audio-encoder configuration problem from a timestamp problem or an ingest failure.
- Run
ffmpeg -versionand keep the full output. - Save the exact command and the complete log, including the first warning or error—not just the final line.
- Inspect the source audio and video with
ffprobe, including codecs, sample rate, channel layout, duration, and time bases. - Redact the YouTube stream key before sharing a command or log. Treat the key like a password; do not publish it.
Without the command, log, source details, and YouTube stream-health status, a specific AAC setting cannot be justified. A 2020 FFmpeg-user thread illustrates the limitation: a contributor suggested trying a newer build after seeing an older one, but cautioned that his test did not use the original real-world input. Read the FFmpeg-user discussion.
Identify which kind of failure you have
AAC encoder initialization or configuration error
If the log indicates that the AAC encoder cannot initialize, does not support the input format, or cannot apply the requested settings, inspect the audio stream and output options first. FFmpeg includes a native aac encoder and supports setting the output audio codec with -c:a, sample rate with -ar, and channel count with -ac. These settings belong to the output context; the right values still depend on the input and command. FFmpeg’s AAC encoder documentation and FFmpeg’s command-line documentation describe the relevant controls.

Timestamp warnings around the repeat
Messages such as “Non-monotonous DTS in output stream” or “Queue input is backward in time” point to timestamps moving backward or becoming inconsistent; they are not, by themselves, proof that AAC initialization failed. Those messages appeared in a particular 2020 case, not in every looping-stream failure. Check when the warning occurs: if it appears at the transition between repeats, inspect timestamp continuity and the timing of the looped media.
FFmpeg runs, but YouTube does not accept or maintain the stream
FFmpeg completing its output does not prove YouTube is ingesting it successfully. Check the stream-health messages in YouTube Live Control Room at the same time as FFmpeg’s log. If encoding appears to succeed but ingest fails, investigate the outgoing protocol and audio/video settings as well as the source; do not assume every ingest problem is an AAC encoder error.

Check the source and how the meditation loop is assembled
Inspect sample rate, channel layout, codec, duration, and timestamps for the source audio and video. If the error appears only when the media repeats, focus on the join: the boundary may expose discontinuous timestamps or incompatible media properties.
If the loop uses several files
When the command uses FFmpeg’s concat demuxer, the files need compatible streams, codecs, and time bases. If they differ, normalize or transcode the segments so their relevant properties match, then test the join again. This advice applies to a multi-file concat workflow; it is not a reason to assume every loop uses the concat demuxer. The compatibility requirement is described in the 2024 FFmpeg-user discussion quoting the concat-demuxer documentation.

Use YouTube’s ingest settings as a diagnostic baseline
YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as supported audio codecs for RTMP/RTMPS live ingest. For stereo audio it recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 kb/s. Its encoder guidance also recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and a keyframe interval no longer than four seconds. These are platform recommendations and a useful baseline—not proof that a deviation caused a particular FFmpeg error. Check YouTube’s current live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions before changing a production stream.
FFmpeg’s audio controls let you select AAC and specify a sample rate and channel count, but an example command cannot be prescribed responsibly without knowing the input, existing command, and failure. Avoid assuming that copying the input AAC stream unchanged will help; compare stream-copy and re-encode behavior on a short local sample if practical. A re-encode can address a format mismatch, but it is not a universal cure for timestamp discontinuities.

Test a short loop before going live continuously
- Make a short test using representative meditation footage and audio, including the repeat boundary where the issue occurs.
- Run the test with the intended RTMP or RTMPS output and your chosen AAC settings.
- Watch the full FFmpeg log while checking YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health status.
- If the error appears at encoder setup, investigate the FFmpeg build and audio parameters. If it appears at the repeat, investigate timestamps, segment compatibility, and duration alignment.
- After changing one relevant setting or normalizing the source, repeat the same short test so you can tell whether that change affected the failure.
YouTube recommends testing with audio and video movement similar to the planned broadcast and monitoring stream health during the event. Its guidance is available on the encoder settings page.

| What you see | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg fails while setting up AAC | Full encoder error, input audio format, requested codec, sample rate, and channel count | Check the FFmpeg build and output audio configuration; test an explicit AAC re-encode on a short sample. |
| A timestamp warning appears when the loop repeats | Timestamp continuity at the boundary, segment durations, and whether the warning coincides with the join | Test a representative short loop; if using concat, verify compatible streams, codecs, and time bases. |
| The loop contains clips with different properties | Audio/video streams, codecs, and time bases across the files | Normalize or transcode the segments to matching properties before concatenation. |
| FFmpeg appears to run but YouTube reports stream trouble | FFmpeg output and YouTube Live Control Room health messages together | Check the RTMP/RTMPS output and YouTube’s recommended audio and video ingest settings; do not treat successful local encoding as proof of successful ingest. |
| The FFmpeg build is old | Full ffmpeg -version output and whether the issue persists on a current build |
Try a current build as a diagnostic check, not as a guaranteed fix; the cited 2020 case did not verify that change against the original input. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a YouTube channel that keeps replaying uploaded meditation videos, StreamNeo is an alternative to running your own FFmpeg setup: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. StreamNeo streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
