1. Disconnect nonessential peripherals
Shut down or restart normally if possible, then disconnect printers, scanners, USB drives, external disks, and other devices that are not required to operate the computer. Leave the keyboard, mouse, display, and network connection attached. A device can introduce a separate driver or access problem during an upgrade, so eliminating it makes the result easier to interpret. Reconnect devices one at a time after the update succeeds.

2. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter in Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select System, then Troubleshoot.
- Choose Other troubleshooters.
- Run the Windows Update troubleshooter and follow the checks it presents.

1. Remove recently added hardware

6. Use System Restore or another recovery option only after diagnostics

If the computer cannot reach the normal sign-in screen, use Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) before considering a reset or reinstall.
Enter WinRE and start Startup Repair
From the recovery menus, choose Troubleshoot, then Advanced options, and select Startup Repair. Let the repair complete without interrupting power. Startup Repair is intended for startup problems and is a lower-risk diagnostic step than erasing the system.
Use installation media when the built-in environment is unavailable
If WinRE cannot be reached, use Windows installation media created or obtained on another computer. Boot the affected computer from that media, select Repair your computer rather than beginning a new installation, then choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair. Choose the edition and account requested by the recovery environment and allow the process to finish.

For further diagnosis, the Startup Repair log is located at %windir%System32LogFilesSrtSrttrail.txt. Preserve a copy or photograph the relevant entries before attempting another recovery action.
