Run the Windows Update troubleshooting workflow
Use this section when the message appears while downloading or installing updates, or when Windows Update reports the code. The menus differ between Windows 11 and Windows 10.
Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select System, then Troubleshoot.
- Open Other troubleshooters.
- Find Windows Update and select Run.

Inspect Device Manager
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand categories such as Display adapters, Network adapters, Storage controllers, Sound, video and game controllers, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.

In the same elevated window, run:
sfc /scannowWait until verification reaches 100 percent. SFC may report that it found and repaired files, found files it could not repair, or found no integrity violations. Use System Restore
