2. Run the Windows printer troubleshooter
Windows 11 and Windows 10 provide printer troubleshooting through the Get Help app. Open Get Help from the Start menu, search for printer problems, and follow the guided checks. Allow it to inspect the selected printer and apply a recommended change when you understand what it will modify.

4. Remove and reinstall the printer
Removing the device clears its Windows registration; adding it again creates a fresh queue. Use the path for your Windows version:
- Windows 11: open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Windows 10: open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected printer and choose Remove or Remove device. Confirm the removal.
- Restart the PC. This ensures that applications release handles to the old queue.
- Return to the same Settings page, choose Add device (Windows 11) or Add a printer or scanner (Windows 10), and wait for discovery.
- Select the printer. For a network device, confirm that the discovered model matches the printer’s address or displayed name.
If Windows cannot discover a network printer, verify the same-network condition from step 1 and use the manufacturer’s documented installation method for that model. Do not guess a network address or install a driver intended for a different model family.
5. Install the current driver from the printer manufacturer
Windows may install a basic built-in driver, but a model-specific package can be required for printing, scanning, status reporting, or network communication. Choose the package for your Windows edition and system architecture when the manufacturer provides separate choices.

6. Reset Print Spooler when jobs are stuck
Print Spooler manages the queue between Windows and the printer. A damaged job or a stopped service can prevent every application from printing. Save your work first, because this procedure removes all pending jobs from the queue.
- Press Windows key + R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - In the Services window, locate Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and choose Stop.
- Open File Explorer and enter
%WINDIR%system32spoolPRINTERSin the address bar. Approve the administrator prompt if Windows asks. - Delete the files inside that folder. Do not delete the folder itself.
- Return to Services, right-click Print Spooler, and choose Start.
- Open the service’s properties, set Startup type to Automatic, and select Apply if it was not already automatic.
Reopen the print queue and send one page. If the service will not start, immediately stops, or reports a dependency error, record that message. It points to a Windows service or driver installation problem rather than a normal stuck document.
7. Print a Windows test page
A test page separates a printer-wide fault from an application-specific one.

- Open the printer’s page in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners on Windows 11, or Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners on Windows 10.
- Select the printer and open its management or printer properties option.
- Choose Print test page.
The exact button label can vary by driver. If the Windows test page prints, Windows can communicate with the printer and the remaining fault may be limited to the original application, file, or print settings. If the test page fails, continue with the connection, driver, queue, and manufacturer support steps rather than repeatedly reinstalling the application.

A successful Windows test page does not prove that every program is healthy. Test a different file in the same application, then test the same file in another suitable application. This identifies whether the problem follows the document or stays with the program.
Try another file and another application
- Print a simple one-page text document.
- Print a different file type, such as a plain document instead of a complex image or PDF.
- Use another installed application that supports printing.
If only one file fails, recreate the document or export it to a standard format and print the new copy. If every file fails only in one program, update or repair that program using its own support options. For Microsoft 365 applications, use the installed Apps settings to select the Microsoft 365 entry and choose its repair option when available.
Check the application’s printer selection and settings again
Applications can remember a printer that was removed, renamed, or moved to another network. Reopen the Print dialog after reinstalling the device, select the current queue, and verify that the page size and orientation match paper loaded in the printer. Disable unusual finishing, booklet, or custom-size options while testing so that a driver capability mismatch does not hide the basic result.

When to contact the printer manufacturer
Generic Windows steps cannot account for every model’s firmware, connection method, or driver package. Contact the manufacturer’s support team when the exact driver is installed, the queue has been reset, and a Windows test page still fails. Provide the model number, Windows version, connection type, complete message, and the steps that already worked or failed.
Manufacturer support is also the appropriate route when the printer reports a hardware code on its own display, cannot join the network, repeatedly disconnects, or works from another computer but not from this one after a clean reinstall. Keep the original error wording; replacing it with only “printer not working” removes information that may identify a model-specific issue.
Is error 0x0080C648 dangerous?
The hexadecimal value alone does not establish that Windows is infected, that files are damaged, or that a security problem exists. Because no authoritative source defines this exact code, judge risk from the surrounding behavior: an application crash, a printer connection failure, or an unrelated warning may each produce different messages.
