Enshrouded crashes, poor frame rates, and multiplayer failures do not share one universal fix. Start by writing down your game and server version, PC hardware, whether the problem occurs in solo play or only online, and the exact moment it appears. Then use the section below for that symptom: update and document crashes, verify hardware and measure performance for low FPS, and separate discovery, packet loss, ports, and server capacity for multiplayer problems.
Start with a precise symptom record
A vague report such as “Enshrouded is broken” hides several different fault paths. Before changing settings, record the details that distinguish them:

Update both before testing.
- Hardware: record your Windows edition, processor, graphics card and VRAM, system memory, and free storage.
- Location in the session: say whether the failure occurs at launch, while loading a world, after entering a particular area, when using specific audio hardware, or while joining a session.
- Connection scope: test whether the same action fails in a solo/offline world, in a peer-to-peer session, and on a dedicated server when those options are available.
- Reproduction: write the shortest repeatable sequence, including which player performed the action and how long the session had been running.
This record prevents a graphics problem from being mistaken for network lag and gives support enough information to investigate a crash that cannot be reproduced from a single screenshot.
Check the Windows PC against Enshrouded’s requirements
Keen Games lists the same 16 GB of RAM for both minimum and recommended configurations. The minimum graphics baseline is a GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB or a Radeon RX 580 with 6 GB. The recommended baseline is a GeForce RTX 2070 Super or Radeon RX 6700 XT, also listed with 6 GB of VRAM. The requirements page lists 64-bit Windows 10 and 6 GB of graphics memory as baselines. These are compatibility reference points, not a promise of a particular frame rate or crash-free operation.

Check the model and VRAM rather than relying on a family name alone. If a PC is below the listed baseline, first bring expectations and troubleshooting evidence in line with that limitation; a configuration change cannot supply missing VRAM or processor capacity.
How to fix Enshrouded crashes or a failure to launch
1. Update the client and any dedicated server
Install current updates for the game and, where applicable, the dedicated server before trying older fixes. Review the current Keen Games changelog for a note matching your symptom, but treat a historical fix as evidence that a particular defect existed—not as proof that it explains a crash today. A client and server on different versions can also create problems that look like connection failures.

2. Compare the machine with the official baseline
Confirm 64-bit Windows 10 or a currently supported Windows edition, 16 GB RAM, the listed graphics tier, and adequate free storage. Check that Enshrouded is running on the intended discrete GPU when the PC has more than one adapter. Record the actual GPU model and VRAM for your report; “gaming laptop” or “RTX graphics” is not precise enough to identify a limit.
3. Identify the exact crash trigger
Run controlled tests instead of changing several variables at once. Note whether the game fails:
- before the main menu or while launching;
- when loading one world but not another;
- after entering a repeatable area or performing a repeatable action;
- when a particular headset, sound card, or other audio device is active;
- only while joining another player’s session; or
- after a long play session or when a world has a large player base.
Test a solo/offline world and an online session separately when possible. This comparison narrows the evidence, but it does not by itself prove whether the cause is a save, client state, hardware, or server condition.
4. Use the supported bug-report path
If the game opens, use the in-game Report a Bug option. If it will not start, use the external report form described in Keen Games’ support guidance. Include:

Do not overwrite the only copy of a save while testing. A timestamped backup lets support compare the state before and after a failed load.
What an older crash fix does—and does not—tell you
Keen Games’ Hotfix #27, revision 716889, published June 25, 2025, listed a crash affecting worlds with large player bases after long play and another crash involving specific audio hardware. The same note said the recommended Nvidia driver had been updated to the latest release for RTX 50-series stability. These are examples of defects fixed in that update. They are not a universal remedy for every current crash: update first, then capture current logs if the symptom remains.
How to diagnose and improve low FPS
Confirm that the problem is frame rate, not network lag
Low FPS is a rendering problem: the image updates slowly or unevenly. Rubber-banding, delayed actions, players snapping backward, or a server list that takes a long time to respond are network or server symptoms and belong in the multiplayer section. A busy online session can expose both issues at once, so record them separately.
Check the hardware and active GPU first
Use the requirements table above as the first comparison. On a multi-GPU system, verify in Windows or the graphics driver’s per-application settings that Enshrouded is using the intended adapter. Record resolution, graphics settings, observed FPS, and approximate GPU and CPU utilization if your monitoring tool provides them. Also note whether the rate changes in a quiet area, a busy settlement, or when additional players are present.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse measurements instead of a supposed magic preset
No official Keen Games guidance establishes one graphics preset, universal FPS cap, or configuration file that fixes low FPS on every PC. Change one setting at a time and keep a short before-and-after record. A useful log contains:
- display resolution and display mode;
- the current graphics preset and any individual setting changed;
- FPS in the same location or repeatable route;
- GPU utilization, GPU memory use, CPU utilization, and system RAM use when available; and
- whether the result changes when other players or world activity are present.
This is diagnostic logging, not a Keen Games-prescribed benchmark. It helps identify whether the limit follows the GPU, CPU, memory, a particular area, or the network session.

Interpret common measurement patterns
- GPU utilization stays near its limit: resolution or graphics workload is likely the dominant pressure; compare a lower resolution or one setting at a time and record the result.
- One or more CPU threads are saturated while GPU use is low: the scene or simulation may be CPU-limited, especially in a busy base or with many players.
- FPS is acceptable offline but stutters online: measure network delay and server behavior separately before assuming a graphics fault.
- Performance degrades after a long session: note the elapsed time and whether restarting the client changes it, then include that sequence in a report rather than claiming a general memory leak.
Community configuration workarounds and one-off tweaks are not validated by the official material available here. Treat them as unverified experiments, keep backups, and revert a change that makes the symptom harder to reproduce.
How to fix Enshrouded multiplayer connection and discovery problems
Separate three different failures before changing router settings:
| Symptom | Most useful first checks |
|---|---|
| Friend cannot see a peer-to-peer session | Steam profile privacy, then a direct Steam friends-list invitation |
| Server list is empty or does not populate | Requirements, ports, Steam download cache, DNS, and packet-loss testing |
| Players connect but drop, rubber-band, or experience delayed actions | Wi-Fi packet loss, upload capacity, active-player load, and server resources |
Follow the official network sequence
- Verify the baseline: confirm that client and server versions are current and that the host machine meets the listed requirements.
- Check the query port: the default
queryPortis15637. If you changed it, use the value in the server configuration and make matching firewall and router rules. Steam’s additional required ports also apply; do not open only the query port and assume the job is complete. - Clear Steam’s download cache: in Steam, open Settings, choose Downloads, and select Clear Download Cache. Sign in again if Steam requests it, then retest discovery.
- Flush DNS: open Command Prompt and run
ipconfig /flushdns. Windows should report that the DNS resolver cache was successfully flushed. - Test another DNS resolver if needed: Keen Games lists Google’s DNS addresses
8.8.8.8and8.8.4.4as an optional test. Change DNS deliberately, record the original values, and restore them if the test does not help. - Test the physical connection: Keen Games states, “Should you experience high package loss while playing on wifi, try switching to a cable connection instead.” Use wired Ethernet for a controlled comparison. A cable can reveal Wi-Fi packet loss; it cannot fix an overloaded server, an incorrect port rule, or a client crash.
Understand the IPv4 limitation
Keen Games’ network article says, “Please note that Enshrouded is currently only utilizing IPv4 for multiplayer.” Do not assume an IPv6-only path is supported by the game based on that documentation. If your home or hosting environment provides only IPv6, ask the network provider for an IPv4-capable path before treating port forwarding as complete.
Make a peer-to-peer session visible
For a missing friend session, check that the host’s Steam profile privacy is public. If the session still does not appear, invite the friend directly from the Steam friends list. This path is different from a dedicated server’s public discovery and does not require you to diagnose the dedicated-server query port first.
Peer-to-peer or dedicated server?
The FAQ describes solo/offline play and cooperative sessions of up to 16 players. The practical choice is whether a player’s PC should host the world or whether a separate dedicated process should remain available.

| Decision point | Peer-to-peer session | Dedicated server |
|---|---|---|
| Host availability | The hosting player’s session supplies the host. | A separate server process can remain available when the usual host is away. |
| Who must be online? | The host generally needs to be in the session for others to play. | The dedicated machine or service must be running; players do not depend on one player’s game session. |
| Discovery | Use Steam visibility and a friends-list invitation when a peer session is missing. | Check the query port, Steam’s additional ports, DNS, cache, firewall, and IPv4 path. |
| Hardware responsibility | The host PC carries the game and session workload. | The server has separate CPU, memory, storage, and upload requirements. |
| Administration | The host updates and starts the game client. | The administrator or provider updates the server, maintains files, and keeps backups. |
Dedicated-server installation, capacity, and performance
Install the documented Windows server
Keen Games’ Steam installation guide places the dedicated server in Steam Library > Tools. Launch the server executable once; it creates enshrouded_server.json, which you then configure for the server’s settings. The guide documents Windows in that context. Platform support can change, so verify the current official guide before installing on another operating system.

Use the capacity examples as planning baselines
The recommendations below are examples for active-player counts, not guarantees. They assume an SSD with at least 30 GB free and approximately 2 Mbit/s of upload capacity per active player; download capacity should roughly match upload.
| Active players | Processor example | Threads | RAM | Storage | Network guidance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4–6 | Intel Core i7 at 3.2 GHz or equivalent AMD | 6 cores / 12 threads | 16 GB | SSD, at least 30 GB free | 2 Mbit/s upload per player; download roughly equal to upload |
| Up to 16 | Intel Core i7 at 3.7 GHz or equivalent AMD | 8 cores / 16 threads | 16 GB | SSD, at least 30 GB free | 2 Mbit/s upload per player; download roughly equal to upload |
At the stated rate, a six-player example needs about 12 Mbit/s of upload, while a 16-player example needs about 32 Mbit/s. Those calculations are derived from the published 2 Mbit/s-per-player recommendation; they are not an independent performance guarantee. Active players, world activity, background traffic, and host overhead can change the result.
If the dedicated server is absent from the list
Apply the network sequence rather than repeatedly restarting the server: confirm the configured query port, Steam’s additional required ports, DNS and download-cache steps, packet loss, and an IPv4-capable connection. Check Windows firewall and router rules against the actual port and server address, taking care not to expose unrelated services. If the server is hosted by a provider, use its file manager to obtain the server logs and saves for support; if it is self-hosted, collect those files from the server directory.
Keen Games’ FAQ names GPortal as a dedicated-server rental partner and says other providers may also be used. That statement does not establish a current price, region, capacity, backup policy, support level, or endorsement. Compare those items only on a provider’s current documentation.
What to send support when the problem remains
A complete evidence package is more useful than a list of attempted tweaks. Include the following according to the symptom:
- Crash or launch failure: reproduction steps, client version, DxDiag, client log and backup folder, and the affected save.
- Low FPS: hardware and VRAM, resolution, graphics settings, repeatable location, FPS observations, and utilization readings if available.
- Peer-to-peer discovery: host and joining-player versions, Steam privacy state, whether a direct invitation works, and the exact point at which the session disappears.
- Dedicated server: server version, configuration including query port, server logs, server saves, player count, host hardware, and upload conditions.
Keep original files intact and make copies for uploading. State what changed after each test and whether the issue occurs solo, online, or only after a particular duration. Outcomes vary with hardware, connection quality, game version, and host configuration, so support needs those conditions attached to every observation.
Quick Recap
A compact decision path
- Crashes or will not launch: update, compare the requirements, identify the trigger, then report with DxDiag, logs, and saves.
- Low FPS: confirm the active GPU, record resolution/settings/FPS/utilization, and separate rendering slowdown from online lag.
- Friend cannot find a session: check Steam profile privacy and send a Steam invitation.
- Server list is empty: check
queryPort 15637or the configured value, Steam’s additional ports, download cache, DNS, and packet loss. - Players disconnect or rubber-band: test wired Ethernet, measure upload capacity, and evaluate active-player load and server resources.
- Nothing resolves the issue: preserve current logs and saves and submit a reproducible report rather than applying unrelated configuration hacks.
