Check the official status page for Steam, Epic Games Services (including Easy Anti-Cheat), Xbox/Microsoft, PlayStation, Nintendo, or GeForce NOW before changing router settings. If the platform is operating normally, test a wired connection, close competing applications, update Windows, the game, drivers and your platform, restart the network equipment correctly, then check Windows Firewall, proxy settings and NAT. Error Code 107 commonly follows a disconnection and can have either a platform or home-network cause; an RTM error also requires checking your device clock and platform-appropriate NAT.
Start with the right diagnosis
A high ping indicator, a failed matchmaking attempt and a disconnection are related symptoms, but they do not prove the same cause. A service outage can look exactly like a broken router, while a congested Wi-Fi connection can leave other games and websites working normally. Use the sequence below so that you do not spend time changing advanced settings for a problem outside your home.

- Platform status problem: the online service used to sign in or join a match is degraded. Wait for the platform operator to restore it.
- Local network problem: Wi-Fi interference, a busy router, a failed modem connection, a firewall or a restrictive NAT is preventing a reliable connection.
- Device or software problem: an outdated game, driver, operating system, platform client, incorrect clock or blocked executable is interfering with the connection.
- ISP or route problem: your provider is not delivering the expected service or traffic to the game is taking an unstable route. Your ISP or network administrator must investigate this.
There is no official numeric definition of “high ping” in the troubleshooting material, and no guaranteed ping value at which every player will experience lag. Judge the result by symptoms: delayed actions, rubber-banding, repeated matchmaking failures, disconnections or a persistent warning that remains after the basic checks.

1. Check the platform’s live service status
When Error Code 107 or an immediate disconnection appears, open the status page for the platform on which you play. Behaviour Interactive specifically points players to status information for Steam, Epic Games Services and Easy Anti-Cheat, Xbox and Microsoft services, PlayStation, Nintendo and GeForce NOW. These pages show the condition of the platform’s online services; they are not a direct health check for every Dead by Daylight match server.

Status information changes quickly. If the platform reports an incident, record the time and avoid repeatedly reinstalling the game or altering the router. Retry after the incident is cleared. If the platform is operational, continue with the local checks below. A normal platform page still cannot prove that every game service or regional route is healthy, so treat it as the first branch in the diagnosis rather than a guarantee of a playable match.
2. Test the connection without changing advanced settings
- Use Ethernet if you can. If the PC or console is currently on Wi-Fi, connect it directly to the router with an Ethernet cable and repeat the same activity. Behaviour’s network guide says a wired connection is typically more stable. The cable is only a test and is not a universal cure: it cannot repair a platform outage, an ISP routing fault or a blocked service.
- If wiring is impractical, reduce the wireless distance. Move the router closer to the gaming device for a test. A closer position can reduce interference and signal loss, but it does not guarantee lower latency in every home.
- Close competing applications. Quit downloads, video streams, cloud synchronization, browser tabs using live media and other programs before launching the game. On a shared connection, ask other users to pause heavy transfers while you test.
- Run a speed test. Compare the measured upload and download rates with the service level your ISP says you should receive. Contact the ISP if the delivered speeds are materially below the expected service or if the connection drops during the test.
More bandwidth alone does not guarantee a lower ping or eliminate packet loss. A connection can have high download capacity and still suffer from wireless interference, queueing, a faulty router or an unstable route to the game service.
3. Update every component in the path
Install pending updates for Windows, Dead by Daylight, the graphics and network drivers, and the relevant platform or console software. Restart after updates that request it. An outdated platform client or driver can prevent authentication or produce behavior that resembles a network failure. If you use a PC, make sure the game launcher and Easy Anti-Cheat component are updated through the platform that installed them.
4. Restart the modem and router in the correct order
Power cycling is different from briefly tapping a router’s reset button. The official sequence is:
- Shut down the PC or console and other devices connected to the network.
- Unplug both the modem and the router.
- Wait at least 15 seconds.
- Plug the modem back in first and wait one to two minutes for it to establish its connection.
- Power the router back on and wait for its wireless or wired network to become available.
- Start the gaming device and test the game before reconnecting every other device.
Do not press a recessed factory-reset button unless you intend to reconfigure the network. This restart clears a temporary session or routing state but cannot fix an ISP outage or a platform incident.

5. Refresh the Windows network lease and DNS cache
These commands apply to Windows PCs only. Open Command Prompt, preferably with administrator rights, and run each command separately:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdnsRestart Windows after the commands complete, then launch the game again. The commands request a new local IP lease and clear cached DNS results; they do not increase your internet speed and cannot repair a platform outage. On consoles, use the platform’s own network test and restart controls instead of entering Windows commands.

Allow the game through Windows Firewall
Windows Firewall can block the game even when a browser works. Behaviour’s Error Code 107 instructions use the built-in allowed-app procedure:
- Open Windows Settings and search for Allow an app through Windows Firewall.
- Open the matching Control Panel result and select Change settings.
- Find Dead by Daylight in the list and enable the network types appropriate to your connection.
- If it is not listed, choose Allow another app, browse to the game executable installed by your platform, add it, and apply the change.
- Restart the game and test matchmaking.
Keep the firewall enabled. Do not turn off Windows Firewall entirely as a troubleshooting shortcut. If a security suite supplies its own firewall, check that product’s application rule as well, using the same principle of allowing the game rather than disabling protection for the whole computer.
Check proxy and managed-network restrictions
Behaviour notes that a proxy can interfere with the connection. If you deliberately use a proxy, verify its configuration; if you do not need one, disable the proxy through your operating system’s network settings and test again. On university, workplace, hotel or other managed networks, administrators may block game traffic with a firewall or traffic policy. You may not have permission to change that policy. Test from a permitted home connection or ask the network administrator whether the game’s traffic is allowed.

Understand NAT before changing router settings
Network Address Translation (NAT) affects which consoles and PCs your platform can reach. Behaviour describes the following labels:

Some platform tests use different letters or wording. Behaviour’s NAT guidance links separate instructions for Xbox, PlayStation, PC through Steam or Epic, and Nintendo Switch; the menu names and router controls are not interchangeable. Check the instructions for your exact platform and router rather than applying a universal set of ports or menus.
NAT is most relevant when you cannot join friends, matchmaking repeatedly fails or a connection works only with certain players. Changing NAT can improve reachability, but it is not a guaranteed latency fix. Do not expose router management or forward ports based on an unverified guide. If you are on carrier-grade NAT, a shared apartment connection or a managed network, your ISP or administrator may control the setting.
Error Code 107: what it means and what to do
Behaviour describes Error Code 107 as following a network disconnection and reconnection. The cause may be your home connection or router, but it may also be an outage in the platform’s online services. That is why the status check comes first.
- Check the live status page for your platform, including the authentication and online-service components relevant to your edition.
- If no incident is reported, perform the wired-or-Wi-Fi test, close other applications and run a speed test.
- Update Windows, the game, drivers and the platform client or console software.
- Restart the modem and router using the 15-second, modem-first sequence.
- On Windows, run the IP release, renewal and DNS-flush commands, then restart the PC.
- Use Allow an app through Windows Firewall to add the game if it is missing or blocked.
- Retry matchmaking. If the error continues on a shared or managed network, ask the network administrator or ISP to check filtering and routing.
A successful web speed test does not rule out a platform incident or a route-specific problem. Conversely, a platform status page marked operational does not rule out a local firewall or NAT restriction.

RTM error: check the clock and NAT
For an RTM error, verify that the device’s date, time and time zone are correct and set to update automatically where the operating system provides that option. An incorrect clock can interfere with authentication and secure service communication.
Then check NAT using the terminology for your platform. Behaviour recommends Open or Type 1 NAT for Xbox and PlayStation, and Type A or Type B for Nintendo Switch. These labels are platform-specific; Type A or Type B on Switch is not a direct translation of every Xbox or PlayStation label. Follow the current platform and router instructions for the menus you actually see.
If the clock is correct and the platform-appropriate NAT condition is available but the RTM error persists, contact Behaviour Interactive support. Separate latency from bandwidth
Latency is the time traffic takes to travel between your device and the service. Bandwidth is how much data the connection can carry. A speed test primarily describes throughput; it cannot by itself show every delay, queue or packet loss event that affects a match. A busy Wi-Fi channel, uploads saturating the connection, a distant service region, ISP congestion or a damaged cable can produce lag even when the advertised download rate looks adequate.
Use a controlled comparison
- Play one test using Ethernet, if available.
- Repeat with other applications closed and large downloads paused.
- Test at a different time of day to see whether congestion is time-dependent.
- Compare the game on the same device with another permitted network, such as a trusted home connection, when that is practical and safe.
- Write down whether the symptom is delayed input, rubber-banding, a failed match join, a disconnect or only a visual frame-rate problem.
If the wired test removes the symptom, focus on Wi-Fi placement, interference and router load. If both wired and Wi-Fi tests fail while other services are normal, check firewall, NAT, platform status and ISP routing. If only the game’s platform is affected, preserve the time and error details for support instead of repeatedly changing unrelated settings.

Do not mistake frame-rate problems for network lag
A game that stutters locally can feel like a network issue. Observe whether the connection indicator or matchmaking error appears at the same time as the stutter. Updating drivers is an official basic step for connection troubleshooting and is also sensible for device stability, but a graphics performance problem will not be solved by changing NAT. Diagnose the symptom that actually changes during each test.
Platform and network decision branches
PC on a private home network
Begin with platform status, updates, the Ethernet test, the modem/router restart and Windows commands. Then inspect Windows Firewall and proxy settings. Check NAT only if joining or matchmaking is the specific failure. Keep a record of the game executable path if you need to add it as an allowed app.
Console on a private home network
Use the console’s built-in network test, install platform and game updates, restart the modem and router, and test Ethernet when the console supports it. Read the NAT result using that console’s own labels. Do not copy Windows commands or PC firewall instructions to a console.

Campus, workplace, hotel or apartment-managed network
Contact the network administrator if the game is blocked. You may not be able to alter NAT, proxy or firewall policy yourself. A personal router connected behind another managed router can create an additional NAT layer; ask the administrator or ISP what configuration is supported rather than repeatedly changing settings.
ISP-provided router or suspected route problem
After the local tests, ask the ISP to verify the expected upload and download service, connection stability and any traffic controls. Tell the provider that the problem affects a game service and provide the times of failures. Do not claim that the ISP is responsible solely because ping is high; use the wired comparison and repeatable timestamps to support the escalation.
When to contact Behaviour Interactive support
Escalate when the platform status is clear, the device and game are current, a properly restarted network works for other services, and the error or matchmaking failure still repeats. Support can use details that a general speed test cannot provide:
- Exact error code or RTM message.
- Platform and game edition.
- Approximate region and ISP.
- Whether the device used Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
- Date and time, including time zone, of several failures.
- Whether the platform status page showed an incident.
- NAT label reported by the platform.
- Firewall, proxy and router changes already made.
Do not send passwords or expose router-management credentials. If the issue occurs only on a managed network, contact that network’s administrator as well. If the ISP confirms a local service or routing fault, keep its ticket number for the game-support case.

Common troubleshooting mistakes
- Changing NAT before checking for an outage: a router change cannot restore a platform service.
- Assuming Wi-Fi is always the cause: Ethernet is a useful comparison because it is typically more stable, but it cannot fix server, ISP or firewall problems.
- Using bandwidth as a promise: a faster plan does not automatically remove ping or packet loss.
- Disabling the firewall completely: allow the game through Windows Firewall instead and restore protection immediately after testing.
- Applying PC commands to a console:
ipconfigcommands are Windows-only. - Interpreting platform status as match-server proof: a platform page reports that platform’s services, not every game match server.
- Factory-resetting the router too soon: use the controlled power cycle first; a factory reset erases network settings and usually requires reconfiguration.
- Changing several variables at once: perform one branch at a time and note whether the symptom changes, otherwise you cannot identify the effective fix.
A practical stop-or-escalate checklist
Stop local troubleshooting and wait if the platform status page shows an active incident. Continue with the network sequence if the platform is operational and the problem follows your device or home connection. Contact the network administrator when the network is managed. Contact the ISP when expected speeds or stability are not being delivered, especially on a wired test. Contact Behaviour Interactive support when Error Code 107, an RTM error or persistent matchmaking failure remains after those checks, supplying the detailed evidence above.
