A “Bad Version, server rejected connection” message is a client/server version or branch mismatch; a full-server queue is not the same as a failed connection; a BattlEye kick follows a different support route from a VAC or BattlEye ban. Start by recording the exact message, your platform, the server name, and whether another server works, then follow the matching branch below.
Identify the problem before changing anything
DayZ support guidance for PC and Steam separates version rejection, connection errors, anti-cheat kicks, and server capacity issues. The menu labels and procedures described here are for the PC/Steam client; Xbox, PlayStation, and Microsoft Store versions can use different menus and support processes.

Fix “Bad Version, server rejected connection”
DayZ’s troubleshooting FAQ states: “If you are prevented from joining a server with this message, you have the wrong version of the game installed.” In practice, the client and the selected server are reporting different builds, or they are on incompatible branches.
Compare both version numbers
- Open DayZ and read the version displayed on the main menu.
- Open the server browser and inspect the version shown for the server you want to join.
- If the numbers differ, do not install an unofficial patch or change arbitrary network settings. The mismatch must be resolved by updating or selecting a compatible server.
Restart Steam when an update may have just arrived
Close DayZ, exit Steam completely, and start Steam again. A newly released update can be waiting for the client to refresh before it downloads or displays the correct build. After Steam restarts, check the DayZ download status and compare the two version numbers again.

Check Stable, Experimental, and Stress Test branches
The client and server must use compatible branches. Official servers identify their branch in the server name, so read the complete name rather than selecting the first result that looks familiar. If your installation is on Experimental or Stress Test while the server is Stable, switch to the branch that matches the server and allow Steam to finish the required download before launching.
Do not assume that every community server updates at the same time as official servers. A community administrator may keep a server offline or on a different compatible build while updating. If only one server rejects you and other servers show the same client version, the server operator may need to update that server.
Verify DayZ’s files in Steam
DayZ’s FAQ recommends Steam’s integrity check for recurring problems that may come from a faulty download, corrupt data, or modified files. The wording has changed over Steam versions, but the current route is generally:
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click DayZ and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files (older Steam versions may call this Local Files).
- Select Verify integrity of game files or the equivalent button.
- Wait for Steam to complete the scan and replace or redownload any damaged files.
- Restart Steam and DayZ, then test the same server once.
Verification is a client-side check. It cannot repair a server outage, make an incompatible branch compatible, or remove a BattlEye or VAC ban. If Steam reports that files were reacquired but the same error returns, continue with the symptom-specific branch instead of running the check indefinitely.
Clear custom launch options
The troubleshooting FAQ lists removing custom launch parameters as a general PC step. This matters when old testing flags, copied commands, or experimentation settings remain in Steam; it is not evidence that launch options cause every DayZ server error.

- In Steam Library, right-click DayZ and choose Properties.
- On the General tab, locate Launch Options.
- Delete the text in that field so it is blank.
- Close the Properties window, restart DayZ, and test again.
Keep a note of any setting you remove if you use it for a legitimate, documented purpose. Do not add random parameters found in unrelated guides as a substitute for diagnosing the displayed error.

“connecting failed (0x00010001)” and “connection with host has failed” indicate that the connection did not complete, but the message alone does not prove whether the cause is your client, your network path, or the selected server. DayZ Community Support’s PC error-code post, dated May 23, 2024, asks players to report these cases with enough context for investigation. Its list is a reporting aid, not a guaranteed client-side cure.
Test whether the failure is server-specific
- Write down the exact server name and the approximate time of the attempt.
- Try a different server, preferably an official server in the same region.
- Note whether the second server connects, fails with the same code, or produces a different message.
If one server fails while others work, the evidence points toward that server or its route rather than a universal problem with your installation. If every server fails, include that pattern in your report and collect the broader network details requested below.
Details requested for 0x00010001 and related errors
The official PC support thread asks for the public IP, the problematic server name, the approximate connection time, and a traceroute to that server for 0x00010001 and other connection-related issues. Treat these as escalation details, not as instructions to publish sensitive information publicly. Send them through the support or feedback channel specified by DayZ, and redact information from any open forum post unless the channel explicitly requires it.

- Your connection type, such as cable or Wi-Fi.
- A connection-speed check result.
- Your region.
- The server name.
- The date and approximate time of the attempt.
Use the exact code and message in the report. A code without the server, time, and platform makes it harder to distinguish a local failure from a server-side or regional incident.
When BattlEye kicks you
BattlEye is DayZ’s anti-cheat software. A player who can launch the game but is repeatedly removed may be experiencing a server crash, a lost connection, or removal by BattlEye. The visible wording determines the next step, so save the complete message or take a screenshot before closing it.
Persistent kicks
For a persistent kick, DayZ’s feedback-report guide asks for the complete error message or screenshot, the server name or IP, your Steam64ID, and the latest DayZ RPT file. The Steam64ID should be supplied through a private bug report or another private support field, not posted in an open forum.
The RPT file is the latest DayZ log requested by the guide. Attach the current file rather than an old copy, and state the approximate time of the failed attempt so support can match the log entries to the incident.

BattlEye bans and VAC bans are different
DayZ developers do not manage BattlEye or VAC bans and cannot revoke them. A BattlEye ban must be handled through BattlEye’s support process; a VAC ban must be addressed to Steam support. Reinstalling DayZ, changing servers, clearing launch options, or verifying files does not reverse either type of ban.

What a DayZ queue means—and what it does not
A queue normally means the server has reached its player limit and is holding connection attempts until a slot becomes available. That is operationally different from a failed connection, a version rejection, or a BattlEye kick. First read the exact screen: a position or “server full” message belongs to the queue branch; an error code belongs to the connection branch.
There is no documented universal queue fix
The available official material does not provide a current queue-status feed, a live wait-time estimate, or a universal remedy for a queue that does not advance. It also does not establish that reconnecting repeatedly, changing servers, waiting a fixed number of minutes, buying networking equipment, or using a VPN will solve a stuck queue.
An older update note mentioned interface issues on a queue screen, but that historical note does not establish a current queue defect or a present-day fix. Do not treat it as a live service-status report.
Separate capacity from a connection failure
- If the queue position changes and the server eventually attempts to connect, capacity is the immediate constraint.
- If the queue disappears and you receive 0x00010001, “connection with host has failed,” or another error, switch to the connection-error steps.
- If you are removed after joining, capture the kick message and use the BattlEye or persistent-kick reporting branch.
- If only one community server is affected, contact that server’s administrators after checking the client version and branch.
Server capacity can also be affected by scheduled maintenance. A June 15, 2026 forum-index notice described maintenance affecting capacity, but it was a historical notice and does not establish live availability on the day you are reading this guide.

Official servers
Official server names identify their branch, which makes them useful for checking Stable, Experimental, or Stress Test compatibility. For official-server connection errors, DayZ Community Support’s PC checklist is the relevant escalation reference. Include the exact server, code, region, network type, and time requested for your particular error.
Community servers
Community servers can have their own restart schedules, capacity limits, mods, administrative rules, and update timing. A client that joins official servers but not one community server may be facing that server’s configuration or availability rather than a broken DayZ installation. Give the community administrator the exact message and time, while keeping account identifiers and public IP information private.
Platform and client scope
The cited menu paths and PC error-report checklists focus on DayZ through Steam. Do not apply them word-for-word to Xbox, PlayStation, or Microsoft Store clients. On another platform, record the platform and edition first and use its official support route; the same visible phrase can have a different troubleshooting path.
Reinstall only after the simpler checks
The troubleshooting FAQ lists reinstallation as a common solution when earlier measures do not help. Treat it as a later client-side step because it consumes time and the guidance does not claim that reinstalling repairs server outages, queue behavior, or bans.
- Confirm that the problem is not a version or branch mismatch.
- Verify the installed files.
- Clear custom launch options.
- Check whether other servers show the same result.
- Save the error text, screenshots, and any logs needed for a report.
- Only then uninstall and reinstall DayZ through Steam, allow all updates to finish, and test once on a compatible server.
If a clean installation produces the same server-specific error, stop repeating the installation and escalate with the requested diagnostics.
How to prepare a useful support report
A precise report lets support distinguish a client defect, a route problem, a server incident, and an anti-cheat action. Include:

- The exact displayed error text or a clear screenshot.
- Your platform and client source, such as PC/Steam.
- The complete server name and, where requested, its IP.
- The approximate date and time of the attempt, including your time zone if known.
- Whether the problem happens on one server or multiple servers.
- Your region and network type, such as cable or Wi-Fi.
- A connection-speed result for error types that request it.
- A traceroute for 0x00010001-related reporting when requested.
- DxDiag for 0x00040031 reports when requested.
- The latest DayZ RPT file for persistent kicks.
- Your Steam64ID only through a private report field.
Do not publish a public IP address or account identifier in an open forum. DayZ’s PC error-code post says that the listed issues should be reported on the Feedback Tracker; follow the current submission instructions shown there because the older guidance and interface labels may have changed.

- If it shows 0x00010001, “connection with host has failed,” 0x00040031, or another connection code, test another server and collect the diagnostics for that code.
- If BattlEye repeatedly kicks you, preserve the complete message, server, Steam64ID privately, and latest RPT file.
- If the message identifies a BattlEye or VAC ban, contact the corresponding service rather than DayZ developers.
- Reinstall only after these checks fail and only when the evidence still points to the local client.
