Start by identifying which version of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos you’re playing and where the problem occurs. The remaster was released on 17 October 2025, and its Steam listing names Titanium Studios and Big Boat Interactive as developers and Argonaut Games as publisher. The listing describes updated modern controls and an updated camera. Check the current Steam listing for its present requirements and edition details. GOG announced in October 2024 that purchasers of its Windows PC release would also receive the classic version; current bundle and availability terms should be checked on the current GOG store listing.

Install any available update for your edition from its storefront, then review the current official patch notes. GOG’s remaster patch announcement documents fixes for reported problems, so an older build may not reflect the current state. Check GOG’s Croc news and patch notes; for another storefront, check that storefront’s current update history.

If the game crashes while loading or playing an FMV
GOG documented a remaster crash that occurred when the game was closed while an FMV was loading or playing, and announced that a patch fixed it. This is a specific, historical fix: it does not show that every startup crash or black screen is resolved. Update the game, and note whether the failure occurs during an FMV, on launch, or at another point. Avoid closing the game during FMV loading or playback while checking whether the issue persists.
If you see a black screen
A black screen alone does not establish that the game has crashed. It could reflect a crash, a display-output or mode problem, or a launcher issue. The official Croc material cited here does not document a specific black-screen fix.

- Record when the screen goes black: immediately on launch, after changing display settings, during an FMV, or after gameplay begins.
- Check whether the game is still responding and whether audio continues. These observations help describe the symptom to support; they do not identify a confirmed cause.
- Update the game and use the support options for your edition and platform. Do not delete saves or edit configuration files based on a guessed fix.
If your controller is not working
No official Croc-specific controller troubleshooting steps or required controller model are established in the sources cited here. Try reversible checks, and distinguish a controller that the operating system does not recognize from one that works elsewhere but fails in the game.

Windows PC requirements and GOG repair options
The Steam listing for the remaster gives these minimum Windows PC requirements: a 64-bit processor and operating system, Windows 10, 16 GB RAM, and 35 GB storage. It does not state a minimum CPU or graphics-card model in the retrieved listing, so those should not be inferred. Check the current store listing for any changes to requirements.
If you have the GOG version and the game still crashes, GOG’s general troubleshooting guidance refers to Verify / Repair in GOG GALAXY. GOG’s earlier patch announcement also listed severe frame-rate issues on ASUS ROG Ally as “currently under investigation (not fixed), PC only” at that time. That is historical status, not confirmation that the issue remains unresolved today; check current patch notes before drawing a conclusion about present Ally performance.
Collect details and contact support
If the problem persists, give support enough information to distinguish the failure: edition, storefront, device and operating system, when it happens, and what you have already tried. For a Windows PC issue, GOG asks users to include a system report. Its instructions are to press Windows+R, type dxdiag, and choose “Save All Information…”. Review the report before sending it: GOG warns that it may contain personal information, including your computer name. Follow GOG’s DXDiag report instructions.
