If STAR WARS: Galactic Racer started crashing, freezing, stuttering, or losing progress after an update, begin with the five-step recovery sequence used by the official support process: restart the game, restart your PC or console, install pending system-software updates, confirm that the game is fully updated, then reproduce the fault once and record the exact race, menu, track, or loading step. After that, use the platform-specific checks below. PC players should update their graphics driver and isolate DLSS and Frame Generation; all players should treat missing progress as possible save corruption and avoid actions that overwrite the affected slot.
There is no universal graphics preset or guaranteed self-service restore for every system. The October 8, 2026 hotfix changed the minimum graphics-driver requirement and included DLSS stability fixes, while the developer still lists specific crash, display, and save issues. The safest troubleshooting changes are reversible settings tests and a well-documented support report.

Start with the official three-minute recovery sequence
Do these steps in order before changing advanced settings. They clear temporary launch state, bring the operating system and game to the same update level, and give support a reproducible symptom instead of a vague report.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Restart STAR WARS: Galactic Racer. Fully quit it rather than leaving it suspended in the background.
- Restart the PC or console. A complete reboot clears graphics-driver and system-memory state that can survive a game-only restart.
- Install every pending system-software update. On a console, check the system update screen; on Windows, apply pending updates and restart if requested.
- Confirm that Galactic Racer itself is fully updated. Check the game’s update or download queue on your platform and wait for installation to finish.
- Reproduce the problem once and write down the exact location. Record whether it happens in a particular race, track, menu, loading screen, or after a specific button press.
The support guidance is simple: sharing the right details helps the team investigate faster and troubleshoot more efficiently. Do not repeatedly retry a failing race while you are still trying to preserve a save; the save-protection steps later in this guide take priority when progress is missing.

Match the symptom to the least-destructive first test
The same update can expose different faults on different hardware. Use this table to choose a reversible test instead of changing several settings at once.
| Symptom | Most relevant trigger to check | First reversible action | Platform focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hard crash or freeze | Outdated graphics driver; DLSS and Frame Generation combination | Update the driver, then disable one of the two features and retest | PC, especially NVIDIA 50-series |
| Stutter after a driver change | Shader-cache rebuild on the first launch | Allow the first post-driver launch to finish before judging performance | PC |
| Monitor blink or system becomes highly unresponsive | Fullscreen mode combined with switching focus to another application | Use a safer display mode and avoid focus switching while diagnosing | PC |
| Flicker or distorted image | Resizable Bar disabled on Intel Arc A580 | Check the motherboard firmware or driver setting for Resizable Bar | PC with Intel Arc A580 |
| Overlay appears stuck | EOS overlay hang | Press B to cancel the overlay and return to the game | Steam Deck |
| Missing campaign progress | Possible save corruption without an in-game warning | Stop writing to the slot and document the loss | PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S |
These are diagnostic branches, not guarantees. If a setting change does not alter the symptom, restore it and move to the next branch so your eventual report still identifies what was tested.
PC: update the driver before changing game settings
Meet the new minimum driver requirement
The October 8, 2026 hotfix raised Galactic Racer’s minimum graphics-driver requirement. A driver that worked before the hotfix can therefore be below the supported baseline afterward. Install the current driver offered for your GPU, then restart Windows if the installer requests it.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The first launch after a graphics-driver change may take longer because the game rebuilds its shader cache. That delay is expected; do not force-quit the process simply because the initial loading period is longer than usual. Judge stutter only after the cache-building launch has completed and you have entered the same menu or track where the problem was observed.

Isolate DLSS and Frame Generation
The hotfix included DLSS stability fixes, but the developer’s known-issues notice still lists crashes on NVIDIA 50-series systems when Frame Generation and DLSS are used together. Test the features independently so you can identify the trigger.
- Write down the current values for DLSS and Frame Generation, along with your GPU model and driver version.
- Disable Frame Generation while leaving DLSS at its current setting. Launch the game and repeat the same race, menu, or loading action.
- If the crash remains, restore Frame Generation and disable DLSS instead. Repeat the identical action.
- If one combination is stable and another is not, keep the stable combination for play and include both results in your support report.
- After testing, change only one option at a time. Do not combine a new driver, display-mode change, and several upscaling settings in one test.
A stable result with both features disabled does not prove that either feature is permanently unusable; it identifies a current compatibility trigger worth reporting, particularly on an NVIDIA 50-series card.
Avoid fullscreen focus switching while diagnosing
The developer reports that changing to Fullscreen and then switching focus between applications can make the monitor blink and leave the system highly unresponsive. While investigating, choose a safer display mode available in the game and avoid Alt-Tab or other focus changes during a test run. If the machine becomes unresponsive, allow the system time to recover before forcing a power-off, then return to the safer mode for the next reproduction attempt.

For an Intel Arc A580, the known-issues notice associates display flicker and distortion with Resizable Bar being disabled. Check whether Resizable Bar is enabled in the platform’s firmware and graphics configuration. Record its state before changing it, and retest the same scene after the change. If the image remains corrupted, capture a screenshot or video and report the driver version and Resizable Bar state rather than repeatedly toggling unrelated options.

Steam Deck: cancel a stuck EOS overlay
On Steam Deck, the EOS overlay can appear to hang. Press B to cancel the overlay and return to the game. This is a non-destructive recovery action; it does not delete game data. If the overlay repeatedly hangs, note whether it occurs at launch, when joining a feature, or at a particular menu and include that sequence in your ticket.
When the problem is stutter rather than a crash
Stutter can be caused by the same driver and shader-cache transition that produces a long first launch, so complete the initial restart and update sequence and the driver update before making performance judgments. Let the post-driver shader-cache rebuild finish, then reproduce the stutter at the same location.
Change one variable at a time
- Start from the settings that were active when the stutter occurred and record them.
- Test DLSS with Frame Generation disabled, then test Frame Generation with DLSS disabled. These settings are the ones tied to the current developer stability note.
- For each run, record the graphics-driver version, the setting changed, and whether the hitch appears in menus, during loading, or on a specific track.
- Keep the setting that produces the most stable result while you continue playing, or restore the original setting if neither test helps.
The published information does not establish a universal frame-rate cap or a single graphics preset that fixes every PC. A cap or preset may be useful as an individual experiment, but it should not be presented as a guaranteed cure. A precise location and setting history is more useful to support than a claim that the game is simply “laggy.”
PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: keep the diagnosis safe
On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, use the same official first response: fully close the game, restart the console, install pending system software, confirm the game update, and reproduce the fault once. Console players do not have the PC driver, DLSS, Frame Generation, Fullscreen, or Resizable Bar branches, so do not apply PC-specific fixes or delete local data in the hope of repairing a crash.

Record the exact console reproduction
Note the console model, account or region, game version, system-software version, and the exact race, menu, track, or loading screen involved. State whether the issue happens every time or only in one mode. If the console displays an error code, copy it exactly. A short clip or screenshot showing the crash, freeze, missing progress, or visual corruption can distinguish a repeatable game fault from a one-time interruption.
Do not turn a crash into a save problem
If the game crashes during a save or immediately after a race, do not repeatedly launch and overwrite the affected slot while testing. Move to the save-protection procedure below. Reinstalling the game or deleting local data is not an established restore method and can remove information that support may need.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Missing campaign progress may mean silent save corruption
The developer lists a serious known issue: a save file can become corrupted without the player receiving an in-game notification. Therefore, progress that disappears after a crash should be treated as possible corruption, not proof that an update merely hid the file.
Protect the affected slot
- Stop repeatedly launching the affected slot or completing new activities that could overwrite it.
- Write down the last successful race or menu action, the time it happened, and what occurred immediately before the progress disappeared.
- Capture the platform, region, game and system versions, any error code, and screenshots or video of the missing progress or warning screen.
- Check whether another profile or save slot shows the same behavior, but do not delete or replace the affected data to perform that check.
- Submit the report through the STAR WARS: Galactic Racer support center and ask which platform-specific backup or recovery path applies to your account and device.
No established self-service procedure guarantees restoration of a corrupted Galactic Racer save. Do not promise that reinstalling, deleting local data, or using an unverified recovery utility will bring the campaign back. Those actions can be destructive and are not supported by the documented information.

When and how to escalate to support
Compare your symptom with the developer’s known-issues post first. If your issue is absent, or the documented workaround does not help, open a ticket through the game support center. PLAION’s help center advises creating a ticket when no relevant article resolves the problem.
Include a complete reproduction report
- Platform and region: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Steam Deck, plus the store or account region.
- Versions: game version, system-software version, and, on PC, graphics-card model and driver version.
- Timing: when the problem began, including whether it started immediately after the October 8, 2026 hotfix.
- Exact steps: the menu, race, track, loading screen, or button sequence that leads to the fault.
- Frequency: whether it reproduces every time or only in a particular mode, track, or menu.
- Visible evidence: the exact error code or message, plus a screenshot or video if available.
- Tests already performed: restarts, updates, driver installation, DLSS-only or Frame Generation-only tests, display-mode changes, and any other reversible setting change.
For a save report, add the last known good progress point and explicitly state that the game did not always display a corruption notification. Ask support before deleting local or cloud data, and wait for platform-specific instructions.
Quick decision guide by trigger and reversibility
| If you see | Check this trigger | Safe next move | Avoid for now |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crash on an NVIDIA 50-series PC | DLSS plus Frame Generation | Disable one feature, reproduce, then test the other independently | Changing several graphics options at once |
| Long first launch and early stutter after a driver update | Shader-cache rebuild | Let the first launch complete, then retest the same scene | Force-quitting during cache creation |
| Blinking monitor and unresponsive desktop | Fullscreen and application focus switching | Use a safer display mode and avoid switching focus | Repeated Alt-Tab testing in Fullscreen |
| Flicker or distortion on Arc A580 | Resizable Bar disabled | Check and document the Resizable Bar state | Deleting game or save data |
| EOS overlay stuck on Steam Deck | Overlay hang | Press B to cancel | Hard power-off unless the system truly cannot recover |
| Campaign progress missing on any platform | Silent save corruption | Stop writing to the slot and contact support | Reinstalling, deleting local data, or unverified recovery tools |
A support ticket is strongest when it shows one controlled change and one clear result. Preserve the original settings and save state whenever possible, because reversibility matters more than trying every possible tweak.
