What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Start by checking whether your PC meets the game’s requirements, then work through Windows and graphics-driver updates, launcher file verification, compatibility settings, security exclusions, and graphics load—one change at a time. These steps help narrow down the cause; they are not a guaranteed fix for every crash or performance problem. Before troubleshooting, note your Windows version, CPU, GPU and VRAM, RAM, storage type, graphics-driver version, storefront, graphics settings, symptom, and the scene or action that triggers it.
Check your PC against the published requirements
Compare your hardware with the requirements on Steam’s Resident Evil Requiem requirements page. Steam lists Windows 11 64-bit, 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12, and an SSD for both tiers.

| Tier | Processor | Graphics card | Memory and storage | Listed performance target |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Intel Core i5-8500 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500 | GeForce GTX 1660 6GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB | 16 GB RAM; SSD | 1080p at 30 fps, upscaled from 640p native resolution |
| Recommended | Intel Core i7-8700 or AMD Ryzen 5 5500 | GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB or Radeon RX 6600 8GB | 16 GB RAM; SSD | 1080p at 60 fps, upscaled from 720p native resolution |
Steam warns that frame rate may drop under high processing load. The listed targets are not a promise that every scene will hold the stated frame rate. If your PC meets minimum but not recommended specifications, begin by lowering graphics settings before considering hardware changes. Confirm the installation is on an SSD, as required by Steam.

Work through the fixes in order
1. Install Windows and graphics-driver updates
- Install available Windows updates, then restart Windows.
- Get the current graphics driver for your GPU from its manufacturer, install it, and restart Windows again.
- Test the game and note whether the symptom changed before trying another fix.
Capcom recommends current Windows and graphics-driver updates. Driver issues and fixes change over time, so use the GPU vendor’s current release information rather than treating an older driver number as a universal recommendation. NVIDIA’s March 2, 2026 announcement records that an earlier Game Ready/Studio driver issue had been resolved with a newer version; it also describes support for path tracing, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, and DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation on RTX 50-series hardware. That historical notice does not establish which driver is right for every PC today.

If an ordinary driver update does not help, Capcom describes a clean driver installation as a possible next step. Its guidance refers to DDU, a third-party utility—not Capcom software. Treat this as an optional, more involved step; follow the utility’s own instructions carefully and restart after installing the driver.
2. Verify the game files in your own launcher
Repair or verify the installation using the storefront that owns it. This checks for missing or damaged game files without asking you to use another launcher’s folders or instructions.

- Epic Games Store: Capcom’s Epic troubleshooting guidance directs players to verify the game through the Epic library.
- Steam: Use Steam’s own installed-game file verification option. Capcom’s official Steam troubleshooting thread provides Steam-specific guidance.
3. Turn off Windows compatibility mode if it is enabled
Check the game executable’s Properties and disable compatibility mode if it has been turned on. Capcom’s Epic instructions cover this check for the game executable, and the Steam thread specifically refers to re9.exe. Use the executable in your own launcher’s installation directory; do not copy a path intended for a different storefront.

4. Check security detections narrowly
Capcom says false-positive detections by security software can contribute to launch trouble or frame-rate drops. Check whether the relevant software has flagged the game or launcher. If needed, add only the specific game and launcher files or folders to that product’s exclusion list; if an existing entry is not working, Capcom advises removing and re-adding it. Do not turn off antivirus or firewall protection wholesale, or exclude unrelated folders.

Distinguish low frame rate from intermittent stuttering
A persistently low frame rate and brief, intermittent hitching are different symptoms. Record which one you see, when it happens, and whether it is tied to a particular scene or action. If performance is low and your PC is below the recommended tier, reduce graphics settings and test one change at a time, writing down the result. This helps identify whether a particular setting affects your problem instead of assuming one option fixes all systems.
The official guidance cited here does not establish a universal setting that resolves stuttering. Avoid treating a community suggestion as an official fix unless it is confirmed for your exact hardware and game version.

Known Intel Arc A770 case
Intel describes a specific performance issue in its Arc graphics support article: Arc A770 users at 1440p with maximum graphics settings may see 40–50 FPS rather than the expected 60+ FPS. Intel’s article, last reviewed June 25, 2026, calls this a known issue and offers no fix there. This report is limited to that GPU and settings context; it does not explain low FPS on other systems.
Capture crash details before contacting support
For a recurring crash, Capcom says a CrashReport folder usually contains a timestamped ZIP. Preserve the report closest to the crash. Also record the exact reproduction steps, where and when the crash occurred, your graphics settings, and whether restarting changes the symptom.
- Include your storefront, Windows version, CPU, GPU and VRAM, RAM, storage type, and graphics-driver version.
- Note the scene or action that triggers the problem and whether it happens consistently.
- Keep screenshots or a video if they help show the issue.
- Provide a copy of
config.iniif Capcom or the storefront’s support team requests it.
Send the evidence through Capcom Support or the official support route for the storefront where you play. A precise, reproducible report is more useful than a general description such as “the game keeps crashing.”
