The fix depends on what is actually failing. A game that closes or freezes needs a different diagnosis from one that runs at low frame rates, fails to launch, or disconnects from an online match. Start by identifying the symptom, the game, the platform and storefront, and whether the problem also occurs offline. Then work from reversible checks—closing apps, checking service status, restarting and updating—toward repairs, reinstalls or platform-specific resets.
Electronic Arts (EA) publishes general crash, performance and connection guidance for its supported games. The same broad advice is linked from the official support hubs for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Star Wars Battlefront, but it is not a confirmed cure for every Star Wars title, patch, platform or hardware configuration.

Identify the failure before changing settings
Write down the exact game and edition, platform, storefront, error text or code, and the point at which the problem occurs. Note whether it happens in menus, during a particular level, only in online matches, or in offline play as well. Also record whether one game is affected or several games on the same device.

These categories can overlap, but treating them separately prevents a router change from being used to chase a local frame-rate problem or a reinstall from being used during a server outage.

Run the low-risk checks in this order
- Save the details. Capture the error message, crash time, game mode and whether the issue is reproducible. If the game has logs or a crash-report option, keep them before reinstalling.
- Close other applications. Exit browsers, recording tools, overlays, launchers and any application you do not need. Background programs can consume CPU, memory, graphics resources or network bandwidth.
- Restart the game and device. A full restart clears temporary state. On a console, use the normal restart command first rather than immediately deleting data.
- Check service and platform status. Look for an incident affecting the game’s servers, the console network or the PC launcher. Do this before advanced network changes or repeated reinstalls.
- Install available updates. Update the game, the launcher and the operating system or console system software. A fix for one title may require a particular patch, so note the version shown in the launcher.
- Test the smallest useful change. Reproduce the problem after each change. Changing many settings at once makes it impossible to tell which action mattered.
Older Star Wars games can have online services that have been shut down. If a service is permanently closed, local troubleshooting cannot restore online matchmaking; use the game’s official support information to confirm the service’s status.
Why does my Star Wars game keep crashing or freezing?
PC: close software, then repair the installation
EA’s cross-platform crash guidance treats these as checks rather than guaranteed fixes:
- Close other applications and reproduce the crash with only the game and its required launcher running.
- Perform a clean boot if crashes continue. A clean boot starts Windows with a minimal set of services so you can test whether another program is interfering. Follow Microsoft’s current clean-boot instructions and restore normal startup after the test.
- In the EA app, open Library, select the game, choose Manage, then select Repair. Let the verification finish before launching the game again.
- If the game still fails, consider reinstalling the game and, if necessary, the EA app. Confirm that you know where saves are stored and that cloud synchronization has completed before removing an installation.
- Test a frame-rate cap or V-Sync in the game’s graphics settings. If the game has no V-Sync control, EA advises checking the graphics-card manufacturer’s support material for the relevant setting. Change one option, test, and record the result.
Repair checks damaged or missing files without automatically proving that the game itself is compatible with every driver or mod. Remove unofficial modifications while testing, because support instructions for an unmodified installation may not apply to altered files.

PlayStation: update, disconnect accessories and restore the license
- Install the latest system software and any available game update.
- Turn off the console, unplug attached USB devices temporarily, then restart and test the game. External storage, hubs and accessories are variables worth removing during diagnosis.
- Power-cycle the console: shut it down completely, disconnect power as directed by the current PlayStation support instructions, wait briefly, reconnect and start it again.
- If the game is digitally owned, use the console’s current Restore Licenses function, then test the title.
- Reinstall the game only after the reversible checks fail. Follow PlayStation’s current instructions for saved-data handling; do not delete local or cloud data casually.
Menu names can differ by PlayStation model and system version. Use the current console instructions for any step that affects licenses, storage or saved data.

Xbox: update, power-cycle and test the network identity
- Install current Xbox system and game updates.
- Remove attached USB devices temporarily and restart the console.
- Power-cycle it using the current Xbox procedure, then launch the game again.
- In the network settings, use Clear alternate MAC address, confirm the restart and test the game after the console reboots.
- If crashes continue, follow Xbox’s current guidance before deleting local saved data. EA’s checklist includes deleting local saved data as a later troubleshooting step, but cloud synchronization and account status should be verified first.
- Reinstall the game only after checking the preceding steps.
Clearing an alternate MAC address and deleting local data are Xbox-specific actions; do not substitute them for PlayStation procedures. Read the current Xbox prompts carefully, especially when a step can remove locally stored progress.
How do I stop stuttering or low FPS?
First separate a local frame-rate problem from network delay. If the picture is jerky in an offline mission, the rendering path is the stronger suspect. If the picture is smooth but actions arrive late, players rubber-band, or an online match drops, investigate the connection path instead. A game can have both problems at once.
PC performance checks
- Close background applications before changing graphics quality. This is EA’s first PC check for crash and performance symptoms.
- Use the game’s frame-rate limiter, if available, to test a stable cap rather than an uncapped frame rate. Compare the result in the same scene or repeatable section.
- Test V-Sync from the game’s graphics menu. If the option is absent, consult the graphics-card manufacturer’s support information for its control-panel equivalent.
- Temporarily disable overlays and recording features, including the EA in-game overlay, to see whether they change the symptom. Restore an overlay after testing if you rely on its invites or messages.
- Check whether the issue affects one title or every game. A single-title problem points toward that game’s files, settings or patch; a system-wide problem warrants broader operating-system and hardware diagnostics.
Do not assume that buying hardware, increasing graphics quality, changing a router or selecting a particular resolution will fix an undiagnosed stutter. None is a universal remedy, and the correct choice depends on the game, hardware and reproducible symptom.

Install system and game updates, restart the console and temporarily remove USB accessories before changing other settings. If the stutter appears only online, use the connection checks below rather than treating it as a frame-rate issue. If it happens offline in one title after updates and a restart, capture the location and frequency so the game’s support team can investigate a title-specific defect.

Why can’t I connect to online matches?
Check service, platform and account status first
- Check the game’s official service status or support notices.
- Check the platform network status for PlayStation, Xbox or the PC storefront you use.
- Verify that your account is signed in and that any required online subscription or entitlement is active for your platform and game.
- Try another online game or mode. If several games fail, the platform or home connection is more likely than one Star Wars installation.
- Try the same Star Wars game offline. Offline success does not prove the servers are healthy, but it helps separate local launch problems from matchmaking failure.
EA’s connection material identifies game-service, platform, account/subscription and local-connection causes. Its captured guidance also warns that older games may no longer have online servers. A service outage or permanent shutdown cannot be repaired by changing DNS, opening ports or reinstalling the game.
Investigate the local connection without guessing
- Restart the modem or router according to its manufacturer’s instructions, then restart the gaming device.
- If practical, test a wired connection or a different network briefly. This is a diagnostic comparison, not a promise that Ethernet is required.
- Stop large downloads, cloud synchronization and video streams on the same connection while testing.
- Record whether the problem is a failed login, matchmaking timeout, mid-match disconnect or high-latency session; each points to a different part of the path.
Advanced router changes should follow the router manual or your internet service provider’s instructions. Do not change port forwarding, firewall rules or other network settings blindly, and do not infer a server outage solely from one failed match.
EA app will not launch, download or load the game
These steps concern the EA app and may not match controls in another PC storefront.

Open Library, choose the game, select Manage and choose Repair. Wait for the process to complete, then launch from the library. This is the first file-integrity check for a game that will not load.

Clear the EA app cache for download problems
Use the EA app’s built-in cache-clearing option for download or update failures, then restart the app and try again. Cache clearing is aimed at the launcher state; it does not replace repairing the game’s files.
Test the in-game overlay
EA says its in-game overlay can sometimes contribute to a PC game crash. Temporarily turn the overlay off, reproduce the problem, and turn it back on after testing if the issue is resolved because the overlay supplies invitations and messages.
Check EA service availability
If the app cannot sign in, download or validate an entitlement, check EA service status and the platform’s status before reinstalling. A service-side problem can look like a damaged local installation.

Reinstalling consumes time and bandwidth and can expose saved-data risks, so reserve it for a repeatable problem that survives updates, restarts, accessory removal, file repair and the relevant platform checks. Before uninstalling:
- Confirm the correct account owns the game and that you know the sign-in details.
- Check cloud-save synchronization and identify any saves stored only on the device.
- Record custom graphics, control and accessibility settings you may need to recreate.
- Make sure enough storage is available for the full installation and updates.
On Xbox, treat deleting local saved data as a separate, later step—not as a routine cache clear. On PlayStation, use the current console guidance for license restoration and saved-data management. If reinstalling changes nothing, stop repeating it and report the exact game, platform, version, error and reproduction steps to the game’s official support channel.
A practical decision path
- Crash or freeze? Close apps, restart, update, then follow the PC, PlayStation or Xbox branch. On PC, repair files and test clean boot, frame cap, V-Sync and overlay changes. On consoles, remove USB devices, power-cycle and use the platform-specific license or network-data steps only when appropriate.
- Stutter or low FPS? Test offline, close background software, use a frame-rate cap or V-Sync on PC, and compare one controlled scene before changing additional settings.
- Cannot launch or download? Check service status, repair files, clear the EA app cache for download issues, and test the overlay if the failure is a crash.
- Cannot connect or disconnects? Check game and platform status, account or subscription access, then test the local connection and other online games.
- Nothing changes? Preserve logs and error codes, avoid destructive resets, and contact the game’s official support with the complete reproduction details.
What the official guidance can—and cannot—tell you
EA’s crash and connection articles are broad support checklists. The Jedi: Survivor and Battlefront support hubs point readers to those general resources, along with additional PC diagnostic material, but that does not establish that every title has identical files, causes or menu names. Will reinstalling fix every Star Wars game crash?
No. Reinstalling is a later check after updates, restarts, accessory removal and file repair. A service outage, system conflict, account issue or title-specific bug can remain after a reinstall.
How can I tell lag from low FPS?
Test the same game offline. Jerky animation offline points toward local rendering or background load; delayed actions, rubber-banding or match disconnects point toward the online path. Both can occur together.
Should I change router ports when I cannot join a match?
Not first. Check game and platform status, account or subscription access and another online game before making advanced router changes. Follow the router manual or ISP guidance if those changes become necessary.
Are the EA app steps valid for every PC copy of a Star Wars game?
