The game released on 15 October 2026, and Konami’s Known Issues Notice dated 14 October 2026 documents several launch and interface problems. Start with the symptom rather than changing several settings at once.

Fix the confirmed PC black screen or launch failure
Konami associates the failure with the combination of V-Sync set to OFF and FPS set to Unlimited on Steam and Xbox on PC. The order matters because the game must successfully reach its title screen before you can change the video setting.

Official recovery sequence
- In Windows, open the display settings for the monitor you use to play and temporarily choose a refresh rate below 60 Hz. Do not change other graphics options yet.
- Launch Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. The temporary refresh rate is intended to get the game through startup.
- At the title screen, open Settings, choose Video Settings, and turn V-Sync ON.
- Close the game normally so the new video setting is written to the configuration.
- Restore the monitor’s original Windows refresh rate.
- Launch the game again and test the title screen, a save load, and a short play session before changing anything else.
This is the sequence published by Konami Digital Entertainment in its 14 October 2026 Known Issues Notice. If the game still fails after multiple attempts, Konami directs players to customer support.

What to avoid while diagnosing
- Do not combine V-Sync OFF with an Unlimited FPS setting while testing. That is the specific configuration tied to the documented launch failure.
- Do not change refresh rate, frame cap, graphics quality, driver settings, and controller settings simultaneously. You will not know which change affected the result.
- Do not treat a successful launch at a temporary refresh rate as proof that every high-refresh display is incompatible. It is a recovery step, not a universal hardware diagnosis.
If the official sequence does not work
Repeat the sequence carefully, confirming that the game actually reaches the title screen before enabling V-Sync and that Windows is restored only after the game has been closed. Record the monitor model, original and temporary refresh rates, GPU driver version, platform, game version, V-Sync state, and FPS setting. Those details give support a reproducible configuration.
Understand refresh rate, V-Sync, and frame-cap interactions
Several observations point to display timing as a variable worth testing, but they do not establish a single faulty component. PC Gamer reported a black screen on a display configured above 120 Hz and abrupt drops from the game’s 120-fps cap during cutscenes. Those are reported observations, not a guarantee that every monitor above 120 Hz will fail or that lowering refresh rate permanently solves performance problems.
A finite frame limit is useful during troubleshooting because it removes the unlimited-output variable. A driver-level cap helped some players in a Steam discussion, but that report is anecdotal and may depend on the driver and game version. Use it only after the official V-Sync and refresh-rate sequence, and document the cap so it can be removed if it changes input latency or frame pacing.

A controlled performance test
- Write down the current Windows refresh rate, in-game FPS cap, V-Sync state, GPU driver, platform, and game version.
- Start with V-Sync ON and a finite in-game FPS value. Use the game’s existing cap rather than Unlimited while collecting observations.
- Play the same short area or cutscene for several minutes and note whether the symptom is a launch failure, a sustained low frame rate, a brief hitch, or a display-only problem.
- Change exactly one variable, such as the refresh rate or frame cap, and repeat the same test.
- Keep the setting that improves the symptom without introducing input delay, tearing, or new crashes. Revert any change that does not help.
No authoritative cross-platform benchmark guarantees a stable frame rate for every PC or Steam Deck configuration. A finite cap can make behavior easier to observe, but it is not a substitute for a patch or a hardware requirement.

Recover a save or title screen that becomes unusable
Konami reports that players using certain system languages, mainly Arabic, may be unable to proceed past the title page after saving and quitting. The existing save is not necessarily corrupted.
Language workaround
- Close the game completely.
- Change the operating system’s language to a supported language, such as English. The exact menu path depends on Windows, Steam Deck, or console system software, so change only the language setting and leave regional formats alone unless the platform requires them.
- Start the game and choose the existing save rather than creating a replacement file.
- Confirm that you can move past the title page and load the save.
- Keep the save and note the original language, the temporary language, platform, account, and game version for future support.
Konami says a patch is in production. Until that patch is available, changing language is a workaround rather than a permanent correction.
Protect the save before experimenting
- Do not delete save files as a first response.
- Back up or copy any local save data using the platform’s supported method before moving, renaming, or repairing files.
- Do not overwrite the affected slot with a new game until you know whether the original can be loaded after the language change.
- If the workaround fails, provide support with the platform, account, language, game version, save slot, and the exact point at which the title screen stops responding.
Transfer a demo save to the full game
A demo save transfers only when all of Konami’s stated conditions are met. Missing one condition can make the full game appear unable to see the demo progress even when both installations are healthy.

Fix Steam Deck UI elements that are partly off-screen
Konami confirms that some Steam Deck interface elements can appear partially off-screen and says it is investigating a fix. The notice does not provide a guaranteed setting, so treat display changes as reversible experiments rather than an established cure.
Safe troubleshooting order
- Update the game and SteamOS before changing display settings.
- Record the current resolution, scaling, display mode, and any external-monitor settings.
- Test the game on the Deck’s built-in screen with the default resolution and scale.
- If the clipping remains, try one resolution or display-scale change at a time, then restart the game.
- Restore the original values if the change makes text, controls, or performance worse.
Separate UI clipping from frame-rate performance. A menu drawn beyond the screen is an interface-scaling problem even if gameplay runs at the expected rate. Conversely, a low frame rate does not prove that the clipping setting caused it.
Troubleshoot a controller that is not recognized or causes menu scrolling
Player reports describe unrecognized controllers, stick drift, and conflicts between controller input and mouse or keyboard input. No official Konami controller bulletin establishes one universal cause, so use an isolation procedure.

Isolation procedure
- Disconnect every other gamepad, steering wheel, virtual controller, and unnecessary USB input device. Leave only the controller you intend to use.
- Quit the game and restart Steam, then launch the game again with the single controller already connected.
- Test Steam Input enabled. Record whether the game detects buttons and sticks correctly.
- Quit and repeat with Steam Input disabled. Keep the state that produces reliable detection; do not switch states repeatedly during one test.
- Test the controller in another game. If the same stick moves without input or menus scroll there too, inspect for physical stick drift before rebinding Belmont’s Curse.
- Only after detection is stable, rebind controls and test every action, including menu navigation and traversal.
When the controller works but movement feels difficult
PC Gamer observed that some traversal actions are assigned to controller triggers and can feel difficult to execute precisely. That is a control-design observation, not evidence of a defective controller. Check the trigger’s physical range in another game, then adjust the binding only if the device itself is functioning normally.
Signs of competing input
- The menu cursor moves when the controller is untouched: suspect stick drift or a second input device.
- Button prompts change between controller and keyboard icons: suspect simultaneous input from another device or a virtual controller layer.
- The controller works in another game but not here: test Steam Input states and restart Steam before changing bindings.
- Only one button fails after rebinding: remove the custom binding and test the default profile before creating a new one.
Reduce stutter and frame drops without guessing
Begin with the launch-recovery settings even when the game starts, because the documented failure involves the same V-Sync and frame-limit variables that can affect frame pacing. Keep V-Sync ON during the first comparison and use a finite cap.
One-change-at-a-time checklist
- Confirm the game version and GPU driver are current enough for your platform.
- Use a finite FPS limit rather than Unlimited while diagnosing.
- Record the display refresh rate and test a lower rate only when investigating display-related symptoms.
- Compare a normal gameplay segment with a cutscene; a drop confined to cutscenes may match the behavior reported by PC Gamer rather than a general performance collapse.
- Do not use a community driver-level cap and an in-game unlimited setting at the same time unless you are deliberately testing that combination.
- On Steam Deck, test UI scaling separately from frame-rate behavior.
There is no published universal PC specification or cross-platform benchmark that guarantees stable performance for every configuration. Avoid treating another player’s cap, driver version, or refresh rate as a guaranteed fix for your system.
Keep a diagnostic record for support
A short record prevents repeated trial and error and gives Konami enough context to evaluate a problem that remains after the known workarounds.

When to stop troubleshooting and contact Konami
Contact Konami support if the official PC sequence fails after multiple careful attempts, if the language workaround cannot load an existing save, or if a save appears at risk. Include the diagnostic record rather than deleting files or repeatedly changing settings.
For Steam Deck clipping, support feedback is especially useful because Konami has acknowledged the issue but has not published a universal workaround. Mention whether the problem occurs on the built-in display, an external display, or both, and include the original and tested scaling values.
For controller problems, explain that you tested with other devices disconnected and report the result of Steam Input enabled versus disabled. This distinguishes a game-detection problem from a physical controller fault or competing-input conflict.
