Check the flight control mode before troubleshooting hardware
Before each mission, the game lets you choose a flight control mode. In Standard, you steer left or right by pushing the left stick left or right. In Expert, you first roll left or right with the left stick, then turn by pitching up or down. Bandai Namco says Expert allows a wider range of aerial maneuvers and more precise aircraft control. If steering feels wrong rather than completely unresponsive, confirm which mode is selected and try its intended inputs. Bandai Namco’s control-mode explanation describes the distinction.

Confirm the device is compatible with your platform
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is listed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. A peripheral supported on one platform is not automatically supported on another. The game’s platform listing does not establish a universal flight-stick compatibility list. Check the official game page for its platforms and current release information.

HORI identifies its ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE Flight Stick, model SPF-034, as usable with PS5, PS4, and Windows 11 PC. The manufacturer says it cannot be used on other hardware platforms and specifies Windows 11 for PC use. That confirms platform fit for this model, not that it will resolve every in-game input or mapping problem. For device-specific setup and troubleshooting, consult HORI’s product support page and its linked manual.

Other flight sticks and HOTAS devices
Do not assume that a stick advertised for another console or game will work with this one. The available official information does not establish a complete list of supported HOTAS models or a full cross-platform compatibility matrix. Check the manufacturer’s compatibility listing for your exact model and platform, as well as current game support material, before buying or changing hardware.
Work out whether the problem is detection or mapping
A peripheral can be detected without all its controls working as expected. Identify the symptom before changing settings:

- No response at all: Recheck the device’s platform compatibility and follow its manufacturer’s connection and setup instructions.
- The game responds, but an axis or button does the wrong thing: This points to a control assignment issue rather than proof the device is unsupported. Consult the device manual and the game’s current control options.
- Controls work but feel difficult to use: Recheck whether Standard or Expert is selected. The official control-mode guidance establishes the steering differences, but does not document a complete current list of sensitivity, dead-zone, or calibration options.
The available official sources do not provide a complete current controller or flight-stick binding list, or guarantee that every button and axis can be customized. Menu labels and options may also change with updates, so use the current in-game menus and manufacturer documentation rather than relying on assumed settings from another Ace Combat game.

Some PC players have described routing a physical stick, throttle, and buttons through Joystick Gremlin and vJoy, hiding the physical devices with HIDHide, and presenting a virtual Xbox controller through x360ce. The setup can involve several configuration steps, including splitting a throttle axis. This is a community workaround, not an official Bandai Namco support procedure, and it has not been independently verified here. Other player reports describe devices being recognized while keybinding or sensitivity controls remain unavailable. Results can vary by device and setup.

If you consider this route, follow the current documentation for each utility and make changes only when you understand how to restore your original device configuration. Do not apply these PC tools to a console setup, and do not treat virtual remapping as a guaranteed fix.

- Identify your platform and exact peripheral model. Compatibility depends on both; a device’s name alone is not enough to establish support.
- Check the flight control mode before a mission. Match your steering input to Standard or Expert.
- Determine whether the issue is total non-detection or incomplete control mapping. Note whether any axes or buttons work.
- Use the manufacturer’s support page and manual. Confirm platform requirements and device setup for the exact model.
- On PC only, consider community remapping if appropriate. Treat multi-utility virtual-controller setups as an optional, unofficial workaround rather than a standard fix.
Because the game is newly released and peripheral support can change, check current Bandai Namco and manufacturer support information after game or device updates.
