If your “Instax Square 3” is jammed, producing white prints or flashing an error light, identify the exact model first. Fujifilm’s current global catalog lists the SQ1, SQ6, SQ10, SQ20, SQ40, SQUARE 2 and SQUARE Link, but no model called “Instax SQUARE SQ3.” The correct reset or light pattern can differ by model.
Most failures have a safe, repeatable fix: use the correct INSTAX SQUARE film, align the cartridge’s yellow mark, never force a pack, keep the film door closed until every exposure is used, and reseat the batteries with the lens open when the camera flashes. The procedures below cover the problems Fujifilm documents for SQUARE cameras and printers.

Identify the exact SQUARE model before troubleshooting
“Instax Square 3” is a common search phrase, but it does not identify a current Fujifilm product. Fujifilm’s global support catalog contains these SQUARE-family entries:

Find the model label
Look at the front, top, bottom or battery compartment for the printed model name. Packaging, a purchase receipt or the user guide can also identify it. If the body only says “INSTAX SQUARE,” record every other marking before attempting a model-specific reset. A support technician can only interpret a flashing pattern reliably when the exact model is known.

Why model identification matters
The film and handling rules below apply to the SQUARE format, but button locations, battery access and indicator meanings are not established for a nonexistent SQ3. Avoid videos or instructions that assign a precise flash code to “SQ3”; they may describe a different SQUARE model.
Use the right film and load it without forcing the cartridge
Film compatibility
Use only FUJIFILM INSTAX SQUARE instant print film. MINI and WIDE packs are different physical formats and cannot be used in a SQUARE device. A pack contains 10 film sheets according to the Fujifilm user guide.
Correct loading sequence
- Turn the device off before opening the film compartment, unless your specific model’s guide explicitly states another procedure.
- Open the film door and inspect the compartment for a damaged cartridge or a piece of film left from an earlier jam.
- Hold a fresh INSTAX SQUARE pack by its edges. Do not press on the individual sheets.
- Match the yellow mark on the film pack with the yellow alignment mark inside the device. The marks must meet; do not rely on the pack merely appearing to fit.
- Close the film door fully. The first ejected sheet is the protective dark slide, not a usable photograph.
- Switch the device on and allow the normal ejection cycle to finish. Keep fingers and objects away from the film-ejection slot.
Never push a cartridge into place. Resistance usually means the pack is the wrong format, is upside down, or is not aligned with the yellow marks. Forcing it can leave the pack misaligned or damage the transport path.

If the film will not unload
Fujifilm’s SQUARE manual says vibration or dropping the device can misalign a pack. First switch the device off, then switch it on again. If the pack remains jammed, remove the jammed film and load a new INSTAX SQUARE pack using the yellow-mark alignment procedure. Do not pull hard on a sheet that is partway through the slot, and do not insert tools into the transport mechanism.

When a partially used pack is involved
Do not move a partially used pack between devices as a troubleshooting experiment. The film may already be exposed or misaligned. If the original pack remains stuck after the restart, Fujifilm’s documented remedy is to remove the jammed film and use a new pack rather than repeatedly cycling the mechanism.
Fix blank, white or all-black prints
The most common documented cause
Fujifilm’s support FAQ says blank, white or all-black images are usually caused by opening the film door after film has been loaded. Opening the door exposes the remaining sheets to light. The user guide warns:
“Do not open the film door until you have used all of the exposures on your INSTAX instant film pack; otherwise, the remainder of the film will become exposed and turn white.”

Once a sheet has been exposed this way, it cannot be restored or used to print a normal image. Closing the door again does not make the exposed film light-safe.

What to do after the door was opened
- Close the film door and leave it closed.
- Count the exposures that were already used, including the protective dark slide if it was ejected.
- Test only with a fresh INSTAX SQUARE pack if the remaining sheets produce blank images.
- Do not keep opening the door to inspect the pack; each opening can expose more sheets.
If a new, correctly loaded pack also produces blank images without the door being opened, record the exact model and contact Fujifilm support. The available documentation does not establish a separate universal cause for every blank-print symptom.
Do not confuse a developing image with a failed image
A print is not finished when it first leaves the slot. Leave it on a flat, clean surface while the image develops and follow the handling instructions in the next section. Premature handling can make it difficult to judge whether the print is actually defective.
Give a print time to develop correctly
Allow the full development period
Fujifilm states that an image takes around 90 seconds to develop after the photo is taken. During that period, do not crease, bend or shake the print, and do not hold it in a way that covers or presses its image surface.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Keep the ejection path clear
Do not obstruct the film-ejection slot while a sheet is leaving the device or while the next exposure is being prepared. A blocked slot can leave a sheet partly ejected and make a later jam more likely. Remove only a sheet that is clearly free to take out; never tug against the transport motor.

Temperature guidance
Fujifilm lists an operating range of 5°C to 40°C. When a photograph is made below 5°C, keep the print warm while it develops. Avoid bending or shaking it while moving it to a warmer place. The temperature guidance is about development conditions; it does not make a sheet that was exposed by opening the film door usable again.
If the picture still looks wrong
Wait the complete development period before deciding that the image is blank. If the print remains abnormal after that time, and the pack was loaded with aligned yellow marks and the film door stayed closed, stop repeatedly cycling the device. Note the model, film type, approximate temperature and what the print looks like, then ask Fujifilm support for model-specific diagnosis.

Why a generic “SQ3 flash code” is unreliable
Because Fujifilm does not list an SQ3, there is no verified SQ3-specific meaning for a flashing lamp. A blinking indicator can represent different conditions on different SQUARE models. Do not infer a precise fault from a video or forum post that does not identify the same model.
Fujifilm’s documented battery reset
Fujifilm’s general camera FAQ recommends: “Try reinserting the batteries with the lens in the open position which should hopefully reset the issue.” Use this sequence:
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Turn the camera off if it responds to the power control.
- Open the lens. If the lens is already extended, leave it in that position.
- Remove the batteries according to the model’s guide. Do not force the battery door or pry against the contacts.
- Wait briefly, then reinstall the batteries in the indicated orientation.
- Close and reopen the lens or power control as the model guide directs, and check whether the flashing has stopped.
This is a reset attempt, not a guarantee that the underlying fault is repaired. Do not repeatedly remove batteries while a sheet is moving through the ejection slot.
If the light continues to flash
Stop using the device and contact Fujifilm’s support center if reinserting the batteries with the lens open does not clear the indication. Provide the exact model name, whether film is loaded, whether the device was dropped or vibrated, the battery type and the point at which the light starts flashing. Those details let support distinguish a loading problem from a model-specific electronics or lens fault.
Use a simple decision path for the main symptoms
| What you see | First action | Next action if it continues |
|---|---|---|
| Pack will not seat or unload | Power-cycle the device; verify it is INSTAX SQUARE film and realign the yellow marks. | Remove the jammed film and load a new pack. Do not force the cartridge. |
| Several prints are white after the film door was opened | Close the door and stop inspecting the pack. | Replace the exposed pack; exposed film cannot be recovered. |
| Print looks unfinished immediately after ejection | Leave it undisturbed for around 90 seconds. | Check temperature and handling; contact support if a correctly loaded pack still fails. |
| Indicator flashes and the model is uncertain | Identify the body from its label; do not use an “SQ3” code chart. | Try the battery reinsertion reset with the lens open, then contact Fujifilm. |
Film, battery and environmental limits to keep in mind
Pack capacity
Each INSTAX SQUARE pack contains 10 sheets. Plan for the protective dark slide to leave the pack before the first photograph, and keep the film door closed until all remaining exposures have been used.
Approximate power endurance
Fujifilm’s support information gives an approximate figure of 100 photos per charge for most instax products, with the SQ1 exception at around 300 photos. These are general manufacturer figures, not a guarantee for every battery brand, temperature or shooting pattern. Do not use that estimate to diagnose a jam or a flashing lamp; use the model’s battery instructions and the reset procedure instead.
Temperature and storage decisions
Stay within Fujifilm’s stated 5°C to 40°C operating range. If you make a picture below 5°C, keep the ejected print warm during its roughly 90-second development period without shaking or bending it. When conditions are outside the stated range, postpone testing if possible so that temperature does not obscure the real cause of a print problem.
When home troubleshooting should end
Stop experimenting when a fresh, correctly aligned SQUARE pack jams again; when a new pack produces blank images with the film door continuously closed; when the lens will not open or close after the battery reset; or when a warning light continues to flash. Repeatedly opening the film door can ruin additional exposures, and forcing a cartridge can turn a loading error into mechanical damage.
For Fujifilm support, have the exact model, the film format, the number of sheets used, the sequence that triggered the problem and any history of a drop or vibration ready. Explain whether the print was white immediately, remained undeveloped after around 90 seconds, or became stuck at the slot. If the product is not one of the cataloged SQUARE models, tell support every marking on the body instead of calling it an SQ3.
Quick Recap
Prevent the same failure on the next pack
- Verify the body’s model name before following a reset or indicator-light guide.
- Buy only FUJIFILM INSTAX SQUARE film for a SQUARE device.
- Match the cartridge’s yellow mark to the device’s yellow alignment mark.
- Never force a cartridge or pull against a moving sheet.
- After loading film, keep the film door closed until every exposure is used.
- Keep the ejection slot clear while a print leaves the device.
- Let each print develop for around 90 seconds without creasing, bending or shaking it.
- Observe the 5°C to 40°C operating guidance and keep prints warm when developing below 5°C.
- If lights flash, try Fujifilm’s battery-reinsertion reset with the lens open before seeking model-specific support.
