If they keep disconnecting, test close to the source and with another device before changing settings or resetting anything. Bose’s steps vary by model, so don’t assume one reset procedure fits every QuietComfort headset.
Before troubleshooting, identify the model and symptom
Check the model name in the Bose app, on the headphones, or in the manual. Bose publishes separate instructions for QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), QuietComfort Headphones sold from 2023, QuietComfort SE, and older models such as QC35 and QC45. Button layouts and reset procedures can differ, so use the support page for your exact model: Bose QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) connection troubleshooting, Bose Bluetooth pairing instructions, and your model’s manual.

Also pin down what is happening: the headphones do not appear in Bluetooth discovery, appear but fail to connect, connect to the wrong device, or connect and then drop. That distinction helps you choose the relevant steps below.
If the headphones won’t connect
1. Put the headphones into pairing mode
For QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), slide the Power/Bluetooth switch toward the Bluetooth icon and hold it for three seconds, until you hear the discoverable tone and see the status light blink blue. Then select the headphones in the Bluetooth settings on your phone, computer, tablet, or TV. For supported models, Bose’s app pairing path is Source > Bluetooth > Add New. Other models may use different controls; check their model-specific instructions.

2. Clear old pairings and pair again
If the headphones were previously paired, a stale entry or connection to another device may be the problem. On QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), hold the Power/Bluetooth switch forward for 15 seconds, until a tone indicates the saved device list has been cleared. Then remove the headphones from the source device’s Bluetooth list, including duplicate entries labelled “LE,” and pair again. Bose’s guidance for the QuietComfort model sold from 2023 also calls for a 15-second hold to clear the saved-device list; confirm the procedure for your exact model first.
For Windows 10, Bose says to select the headphones’ speaker listing rather than the duplicate “LE” entry. If an audio cable is attached, unplug it before Bluetooth troubleshooting: on the documented QuietComfort model, connecting the cable disables Bluetooth.

3. Restart the source and check app permissions
Restart the phone, tablet, computer, or TV, then try pairing again. If you are using the Bose app and it cannot find the headphones, check that the app has the Bluetooth permissions it requests; Bose notes that it may not find the product without them.
If the connection keeps dropping
Test close to the source
Keep the headphones within 33 feet (10 meters) of the Bluetooth source while troubleshooting, following Bose’s stated distance guidance. Walls, doors, appliances, and other wireless devices can reduce the usable range. Move the source closer and compare performance in a more open area if practical.

Reduce nearby wireless activity
For intermittent audio on QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), Bose recommends disconnecting nearby wireless devices and testing with multipoint switched off in the Bose app under Bluetooth Connections. Multipoint lets the headphones connect to two devices at once, but they play audio from only one device at a time.
Compare a second Bluetooth source
Try the headphones with another phone, tablet, or computer. Compare whether they appear in pairing mode, connect reliably at close range, and stay connected at your usual distance. If they work reliably with a second source, focus on the original device’s Bluetooth settings, permissions, or software. If they fail with multiple sources even at close range and with little wireless interference, continue with the model-specific reset and Bose support guidance.

Reset only with the instructions for your model
On QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), a product reset is not the same as clearing saved Bluetooth pairings. Bose says the reset reboots the headphones and resets product controls without clearing device settings. Its documented procedure is to connect USB-C to the right earcup, hold the Bluetooth/Power switch forward while connecting the other end to a USB-C power source, then release the switch after connection. The light blinks white for three seconds when the reset completes.

Do not apply that sequence to another QuietComfort model without checking its instructions. Bose’s documentation distinguishes models, and the reset steps can differ. Use the support page or manual for the exact headset rather than treating “reset” as a universal procedure.

Check for a software update
For QuietComfort Headphones sold from 2023, Bose describes updates through the Bose app or Bose Updater on a computer. For an app transfer, keep the headphones connected and within Bluetooth range; Bose says transfer may take up to 40 minutes and installation up to 15 minutes. These timings and steps are specific to that model guidance and should not be assumed to apply to every QuietComfort generation. See Bose’s update instructions.
When to contact Bose support
If the headphones still fail after you have tested another source, cleared pairings, checked range and interference, and followed the exact model’s reset and update guidance, use Bose’s support or service route for that model. A reset cannot be assumed to resolve a hardware fault; testing across sources helps establish whether the issue is more likely with the headphones or the original device.
