BlazBlue: Centralfiction on a PS5 is the PS4 edition running through backward compatibility. The PlayStation Store listing says it is playable on PS5, while warning that “Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent.” Most problems can be sorted by identifying whether the download is incomplete, the account license is unavailable, the installation is damaged, or the controller issue is actually happening on the Windows/Steam version rather than the PS5 console version.
Use the symptom-specific order below. Do not buy another controller, arcade stick, storage device, or game copy until you have completed the free download, account, license, reinstall, and Safe Mode checks.

First, confirm which version and platform you are troubleshooting
The PlayStation product sold for this game is the PS4 edition. It can be installed and played on a PS5, but it is not a separate native PS5 release. That distinction matters because a PS5-console fix uses PlayStation account, storage, download, license, and Safe Mode tools. Advice about Steam Input, Windows drivers, or PC controller wrappers belongs to the PC release and should not be applied to a PS5 console.

If you are unsure, check where the game is installed. A PS5 console shows the title in the PlayStation library and download list; a PC installation appears in Steam. The rest of this guide starts with the PS5-console case.

Before changing anything, record the exact symptom
Write down the wording of any error, the error code, and the step at which it appears. Note whether the game has finished downloading, whether the title is shown as purchased by the signed-in account, and whether the problem occurs with another game. PlayStation asks people seeking support to provide the error details and steps that reproduce the problem. This information also prevents you from mistaking an incomplete download for a launch failure.
- Download state: Check the PS5 notification or download list and confirm whether the game is still receiving data.
- Account: Identify the account that bought or redeemed the game and make sure it is the account currently signed in.
- Storage: Check free space on the console and, if applicable, the USB extended-storage location.
- Controller scope: Test whether the DualSense works in the PS5 menus and whether the issue is limited to Centralfiction.
- Reproduction: Record the exact menu or mode that fails, rather than only saying that the game “does not work.”
When Centralfiction opens only to Tutorial
Tutorial-only access can be normal during installation. Arc System Works explains that the PS4 version can become playable before its complete download finishes, with Tutorial available as the first mode. The console is allowing an early portion of the game to run while the remaining content continues to download.
Check whether the download is still active
- Open the PS5 download or notification list while the game is closed.
- Look for Centralfiction and check whether data remains, rather than relying on the fact that the icon launches.
- Leave the console connected until the download reaches completion, then start the game again.
Do not treat the Tutorial screen itself as proof that the game is permanently restricted. It is the expected first playable area when the installation has not finished.

When the download has genuinely completed and other modes remain unavailable, Arc System Works recommends downloading the game again from the PlayStation Store. A stopped or failed transfer can leave an installation that launches but lacks required content. Use the download-retry procedure in the next section, then check the game again after the new download finishes.
When the download will not start, pauses, or stalls
Start with the least destructive retry. PlayStation recommends pausing and resuming a stalled item. This can re-establish a transfer without deleting the installation already present.

Pause and resume
- Open the PS5 download list or notifications.
- Select the Centralfiction download and choose Pause.
- Wait briefly, then choose Resume.
- Watch the transfer for a sustained increase rather than assuming that the status changed immediately.
Cancel a failed item and download it from the library
If pause and resume does not work, PlayStation’s next step is to cancel and delete the item from the download list. Then open your game library, locate Centralfiction, and start the download again from there. This is the appropriate retry when the queue entry itself is stuck or reports a failed transfer.
Check the conditions that can stop a transfer
- PlayStation service status: An outage can prevent a store transaction or download from progressing. Check the service-status information before repeatedly deleting the game.
- Available storage: Confirm that the PS5 has enough free space for the download and installation. A queue can fail when storage becomes insufficient.
- Network connection: Check the console’s connection if the transfer repeatedly stops, loses speed, or cannot reconnect.
- System software: Install any available PS5 system-software update before attempting another download.
If ordinary retry and these checks do not restore the transfer, PlayStation’s guidance includes Safe Mode cache and database steps. Use those recovery options with the console’s own Safe Mode instructions, then try the library download again.
When the game is locked, missing, or asks you to buy it again
A lock icon, a missing library entry, or an unexpected purchase prompt usually requires an account and license check before you assume that the game files are defective.
Verify the purchasing account and transaction
- Sign in to the PS5 account that purchased or redeemed Centralfiction.
- Check the transaction history or purchase confirmation for that account.
- Open the library while using that same account and look for the title.
If another household account originally made the purchase, the account relationship and console-sharing settings may affect access. Do not repurchase the game until the original transaction is confirmed.
Restore the license on PS5
On the PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. PlayStation says restoring licenses does not affect your data and can help when a game is locked or missing, or when a crash is related to license recognition. After the process finishes, return to the library and try the title again.

License restoration cannot repair a download that never completed. If the game remains in Tutorial-only mode or the download is incomplete, follow the download steps instead of repeatedly restoring the license.

For a copy that shows as installed but will not start, use PlayStation’s general game-start sequence. These are PS5 recovery measures; they are not a Centralfiction-specific diagnosis.
- Restart the PS5. A restart clears a temporary console state without deleting the game.
- Restore licenses. Use Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses if the title is locked, missing, or crashing during license checks.
- Delete and reinstall the game. Remove the installed copy, then download Centralfiction again from the library. Let the complete download finish before judging whether all modes are available.
- Update PS5 system software. Install the current system update offered by the console, then retry the launch.
- Use Safe Mode recovery. PlayStation recommends clearing the cache and rebuilding the database when ordinary restart and reinstall steps do not resolve a game-start problem.
If the game is on USB extended storage
Move the game to the PS5’s internal storage and test it there. PlayStation includes this move as a general launch troubleshooting step. It separates a possible extended-storage read problem from an issue with the game or account. Do not interpret a successful move as proof that every USB drive is incompatible; it only identifies the storage location as a variable in your setup.
What a crash does and does not prove
A crash alone does not establish a Centralfiction-specific PS5 bug. The available guidance does not identify a particular affected software version, error code, or confirmed game-level cause. Record the crash message and the steps that trigger it before contacting PlayStation support.
Safe Mode: when to use it and what it changes
Safe Mode belongs after the ordinary restart, license, download, and reinstall checks unless the console itself directs you there. PlayStation’s troubleshooting guidance includes two relevant operations: clearing the console cache and rebuilding the database. They are intended to address temporary system data or database organization that can interfere with downloads and launches.

- Use Clear Cache when a temporary system-state problem is suspected.
- Use Rebuild Database when the console’s content index may be inconsistent and normal game-start steps have failed.
Read the PS5 Safe Mode prompts carefully and do not select a reset or initialization option merely because it appears in the menu. The troubleshooting sequence here calls for cache and database recovery, not erasing the console. After the operation completes, check the download status and launch Centralfiction again.
Controller problems on the PS5 console
For the PS5-console version, the available material does not establish a Centralfiction-specific DualSense failure or a confirmed DualSense workaround. That means a report that the “PS5 controller does not work” is not enough to identify the cause.
Separate a console connection problem from a game problem
- Check whether the DualSense operates normally in the PS5 home screen and settings.
- Test another game to see whether input fails across the console or only in Centralfiction.
- Reconnect or charge the controller using the normal PS5 controller procedure, then retest the title.
- Record whether input fails at the title screen, in menus, or only during a match.
If the controller works in the PS5 interface and other games but not in Centralfiction, document that narrow symptom for support. The available sources do not provide a game-specific setting that can be changed on the PS5 to guarantee a fix.
Do not import Steam workarounds to the console
Steam community posts describe DualSense trouble on the PC release and discuss PC-side workarounds. Those reports concern Windows and Steam configuration; they do not verify a fix for PS5-console play. Steam Input settings, controller wrappers, and similar PC instructions therefore do not belong in a PS5 troubleshooting procedure.

Controller problems on the Windows Steam release
If your copy is on a Windows PC through Steam, treat it as a different environment. Steam lists full support for Xbox controllers, while community reports mention DualSense recognition problems. Community posts are anecdotal: they can help identify a pattern, but they do not prove a universal fault, a particular cause, or a working fix for every PC configuration.

Use the PC context when asking for help
- State that you are running the Steam release on Windows, not the PS4 edition on a PS5.
- Name the controller model and whether Windows recognizes it outside the game.
- Describe the Steam controller configuration in effect and where input stops responding.
- Include the exact game and platform wording in any support request so a PS5-console procedure is not substituted for a PC one.
Do not use the Steam reports as evidence that a DualSense is defective on PS5. The two releases have separate input paths and separate troubleshooting tools.
Arcade-stick compatibility and PS3 hardware
Arc System Works says PS3 arcade sticks may be recognized by the PS4 console version, but they are not officially supported and the publisher does not guarantee operation of every arcade stick. Recognition is therefore a possibility, not a compatibility promise.
How to interpret a stick that does not work
- Do not assume that a PS3 label guarantees compatibility with the PS4 edition on PS5.
- Do not buy a particular stick solely because another player reports that it works.
- Record the stick model, its connection method, and whether the PS5 detects it outside the game.
- Use a supported controller for a diagnostic comparison when available; this helps determine whether the failure is limited to the arcade stick.
The publisher’s qualification means that an unsuccessful test can be an unsupported-hardware limitation rather than a downloadable game defect.

When to contact PlayStation or Arc System Works
Escalate after you have captured the error and completed the relevant platform steps. Include the purchasing account context, transaction confirmation, download state, free storage, system-software status, whether the game is on internal or USB storage, and the exact reproduction sequence. For controller cases, identify the hardware and state whether it works in the console menus and other games. For Tutorial-only cases, say explicitly whether the download had finished.
Contact PlayStation for account, transaction, download, license, storage, Safe Mode, or PS5 system issues. Contact Arc System Works when the PS4 edition’s game behavior remains abnormal after the platform checks, or when you need clarification about supported hardware. Neither source currently establishes a single Centralfiction PS5 bug, affected software version, or universal controller workaround, so precise symptoms are more useful than a general statement that the game is broken.
What you should expect after a successful fix
A correctly completed installation should no longer show download progress, and modes that were unavailable during the early Tutorial state should appear after the full content download. A valid purchase should open without a lock after the correct account is signed in and licenses are restored when necessary. A repaired launch should start from the normal game flow after restart, reinstall, system update, or Safe Mode recovery as applicable.
Controller results depend on the environment: PS5-console DualSense behavior has no documented Centralfiction-specific workaround in the available guidance, Steam DualSense reports apply only to the PC release, and PS3 arcade-stick operation on the PS4 edition is possible but unsupported.
