First identify what “blank screenshot” means. If a Grafana alert based on Loki has no screenshot attached, Grafana documents alert images as unsupported for Loki; changing a capture setting is not a documented fix. If the live Grafana panel or Explore view is empty, investigate the Loki query and data-source connection. If a separate screenshot file is blank while the Grafana view works, the available documentation does not establish a specific Loki-related capture bug, so the capture path needs to be reproduced and diagnosed separately.
Identify which kind of blank you have
These three symptoms have different causes and should not be treated as one screenshot defect:

- No image attached to a Grafana alert notification: check Grafana’s documented support limitation for Loki alert images.
- An empty Grafana panel or Explore view: determine whether the Loki query returns logs and whether Grafana can reach Loki.
- A blank image file from a separate browser or screenshot tool: compare the file with the working Grafana page and investigate that capture workflow. The supplied Grafana and Loki documentation does not identify a universal fix for this case.
Missing screenshot in a Loki alert notification
Grafana Labs’ Use images in notifications documentation states: “This feature is not supported in Mimir or Loki, or when Grafana is configured to send alerts to other Alertmanagers such as the Prometheus Alertmanager.” For a Loki alert, the absent notification image is therefore a documented support limitation, not evidence that the image is merely blank or that a routine setting change will enable it.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not spend time changing screenshot or notification settings on the assumption they can override that limitation. If you need to share evidence for a Loki alert, use a supported alternative workflow, such as linking recipients to the relevant Grafana dashboard or including useful alert details in the notification. Confirm the exact behavior against the Grafana version and alerting path you operate.

Empty panel or Explore results: check the query and data
If Grafana itself shows no logs, begin with the result set rather than the screenshot. Grafana Labs’ Troubleshoot Loki data source issues covers empty results as well as connection and query problems.
- Expand the time range. Set the dashboard or Explore range wide enough to include when the logs were written. A valid query can return nothing if its selected interval misses the data.
- Verify the stream selector and labels. Check that the selector matches actual streams and that each label name and value is correct. A selector that matches no streams produces no logs.
- Check retention. Confirm the data has not aged beyond the configured retention period. Expired logs cannot be recovered by changing the screenshot workflow.
- Run the query in Explore. Compare the query’s actual result with the panel. If Explore is also empty, focus on the query, time range, or stored data; if Explore returns logs but the panel does not, inspect the panel’s query and dashboard settings.
Connection errors: verify Grafana can reach Loki
A panel may appear empty or fail to load when Grafana cannot connect to its Loki data source. Check the configured Loki base URL and port, then verify network and firewall access from the Grafana server—not only from your own computer.

- Authentication and TLS: check the credentials and TLS settings required by your Loki endpoint, and examine the returned error rather than assuming it is a screenshot issue.
- Multi-tenancy: if Loki requires tenant identification, verify the
X-Scope-OrgIDheader and that it names the intended tenant. - Grafana Cloud and private endpoints: Grafana Labs warns that
localhostor a private address configured for Grafana Cloud refers to Grafana’s servers, not your private network. For a self-hosted Loki endpoint that Grafana Cloud cannot reach directly, the documented option is Private Data Source Connect (PDC).
Use Grafana’s Loki data source troubleshooting guide to match the observed connection error to the appropriate check. Do not copy a URL or tenant configuration from another deployment without confirming it applies to yours.
Query failures, slow responses, and timeouts
A query can fail even when the data source is reachable. Loki’s Troubleshoot log queries (READ) identifies syntax, query limits, timeouts, and storage access among the possible failure classes. There is no single fix that applies to all of them.

- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
- Capture the exact Grafana error or HTTP response and note which query and time range produced it.
- Check the query syntax and any limits implicated by the error.
- If the request times out, determine whether the query is too broad or whether the relevant service is slow; use Loki logs and metrics to narrow down where it is failing.
- If the error points to storage access, investigate the storage path and its permissions or availability rather than changing screenshot options.
Grafana Labs’ query guidance directs operators to Loki logs and metrics for diagnosis. The appropriate correction depends on the reported failure; do not treat a timeout, syntax error, limit, and storage problem as interchangeable.
A separate screenshot file is blank while Grafana works
If the panel displays logs in Grafana but an image saved by a separate browser or capture tool is blank, the issue is not established by the Loki alert-image limitation or the data-source troubleshooting guidance. The screenshot may be failing along a different path, but the evidence does not support naming one cause or promising one fix.

To make the failure diagnosable, record:
- Grafana and Loki versions.
- Whether the image comes from an alert notification, a manual browser capture, or an automated capture tool.
- The affected dashboard or panel URL and the selected time range, with secrets removed.
- The browser or capture tool and its relevant error output.
- Whether the same panel renders correctly when opened directly in Grafana.
Redact credentials, cookies, tenant identifiers, and sensitive log content before sharing configuration or screenshots. Grafana’s operational guide, Troubleshoot Loki operations, covers operations troubleshooting; it does not establish that all blank image files are Loki failures.

If your issue is specifically capturing a Grafana page as an image, ScreenshotNeo can take the screenshot through one GET request. It does not change Grafana’s documented restriction on Loki alert notification images, and it cannot make a genuinely empty Loki query return logs.
