Fix Black Ops 7 problems in this order: check Activision’s service status, verify that your PC meets the game’s current requirements, update the graphics driver, remove software conflicts, then test your home network. Stutter is usually a rendering or system-load problem, a crash can come from readiness or conflicting software, and a packet-burst warning points to latency or packet loss rather than one universal setting.
The steps below separate those causes so you can change one variable at a time and know when the problem is outside your PC.

Check whether Black Ops 7 services are having an outage
Open Activision’s online-services status page before changing Windows or graphics settings. If the indicator for your platform is not green, or the page shows an alert, local troubleshooting may not restore online play until the service issue is resolved. Record the time and the alert wording, then wait for the service to recover.

If the platform indicator is green, continue with local checks. A green status does not prove that your individual connection is healthy; it only makes a broad service outage less likely.

Confirm that your PC is ready for Black Ops 7
Compare your system with Activision’s 2026 requirements. The minimum specification is a starting point for running the game, not a promise of smooth performance in every scene. The recommended specification targets 60 frames per second. Activision also lists platform and instruction-set requirements that can prevent launch even when the headline CPU and GPU appear adequate.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended for 60 FPS |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 |
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 1400 or Intel Core i5-6600 | AMD Ryzen 5 1600X or Intel Core i7-6700K |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 12 GB RAM |
| Graphics card | AMD Radeon RX 470, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or GTX 1060, or Intel Arc A580 | AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, or Intel Arc B580 |
| Video memory | 3 GB VRAM | 8 GB VRAM |
| Storage | SSD with 116 GB available | SSD with 116 GB available |
| Other requirements | TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, DirectX 12 compatibility, broadband internet, and an AVX-capable Intel or AMD processor | |
Activision lists 16 GB of RAM and 12 GB of VRAM for competitive or ultra 4K use. Those figures are a higher-use target, not a replacement for the minimum or 60-FPS recommendations.
How to check the requirements in Windows
- Press Windows key, type System Information, and open the app. Check the Windows edition, processor, installed physical memory, and whether the system is 64-bit.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
dxdiag, and inspect the System and Display tabs for DirectX support, graphics model, and dedicated video memory. - Open Settings > System > Storage and verify that the SSD containing the game has at least the required free space. The space must be available, not merely the drive’s total capacity.
- For firmware prerequisites, enter your motherboard’s UEFI setup using the manufacturer’s documented key. Confirm TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are enabled only if your Windows installation and hardware support them; changing firmware security settings without a recovery plan can make an existing installation unbootable.
If your PC misses a minimum requirement, software tweaks cannot turn it into a supported configuration. Freeing space can satisfy the SSD prerequisite, but it is a readiness fix rather than a guaranteed cure for stutter.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallUpdate the graphics driver before diagnosing performance
Activision’s requirements page lists these driver versions when checked in 2026: AMD 25.12.1, NVIDIA desktop and notebook 591.59, NVIDIA workstation 582.08, and Intel 32.0.101.8531. Driver releases change frequently, so check the current Black Ops 7 requirements page and your GPU manufacturer before installing; do not treat these numbers as permanent.
- Open Settings > Windows Update, select Check for updates, install pending updates, and restart.
- Identify the exact GPU in
dxdiagor Device Manager > Display adapters. - Install the current driver package intended for that GPU and Windows edition. Choose the vendor’s clean or reset option when the installer offers one, then restart.
- Launch Black Ops 7 once with default graphics settings. Change one setting at a time afterward so a new problem can be traced to a specific change.
A driver update is a reversible software change. If a newly installed driver introduces a crash, use the driver installer’s rollback or reinstall option and document both versions for support.

How do I fix Black Ops 7 stuttering on PC?
Stuttering is an uneven frame-delivery problem: the average frame rate can look acceptable while individual frames arrive late. Start with the least disruptive tests and stop when the hitching disappears.
Remove competing load and overlays
Close browsers with active video, download clients, hardware-monitoring utilities, recording software, chat overlays, and other background applications before launching the game. Activision specifically advises closing background applications and disabling or uninstalling overlays, recording tools, and input-remapping software that can interfere with boot or gameplay.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Use Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and sort the Processes tab by CPU, Memory, and GPU. End only applications you recognize and do not terminate Windows processes. Disable an overlay in the application that provides it, restart the game, and test the same map or mode. If the hitching returns when the overlay is restored, leave it disabled while playing and report the conflict to that software’s publisher.
Use reversible in-game tests
Record the resolution, quality preset, render scale, texture setting, and frame-rate limit you currently use. Then make one controlled change, play the same type of scene for several minutes, and compare the result.
- Lower the resolution or render scale to test whether the GPU is being saturated.
- Lower texture quality if the card is close to its available VRAM limit.
- Set a frame-rate cap below the unstable peak rather than allowing the frame rate to swing continuously.
- Temporarily disable optional visual effects to identify the setting that causes spikes.
These are diagnostic changes, not a promise from Activision that a particular preset eliminates stutter. Restore image-quality settings gradually after you find a stable baseline.

Check heat and power behavior
Keep the PC’s vents clear, make sure fans are operating, and avoid placing a laptop on a soft surface that blocks intake. Excess heat can cause the processor or GPU to reduce its operating speed, which appears as recurring hitches. Do not change firmware power limits or apply an overclock while troubleshooting; adding another variable makes the cause harder to isolate.

If the first run after a driver or game update is worse than later runs, allow any in-game compilation or asset preparation process to finish and then restart the game. If the same hitch occurs in every session after the system is cool, background applications are closed, and drivers are current, treat it as a persistent issue and collect evidence for escalation rather than repeatedly changing unrelated settings.
Why does Black Ops 7 keep crashing on PC?
Crashes can happen during launch, while loading a map, or during play. The fastest path is to remove known interference, verify readiness, and then check whether Activision has already documented the failure.
Eliminate software conflicts
- Restart Windows so pending updates and locked files are cleared.
- Close or uninstall, for the test session, overlays, screen-recording tools, macro or input-remapping utilities, and background applications. Activision identifies these categories as possible boot or gameplay interferers.
- Run the game without third-party tuning or monitoring overlays. Re-enable tools one at a time only after a stable session.
- Check that the graphics driver is current for your GPU and that the installation completed without an error.
Do not assume that a tool is harmless because it is not visible on screen; an injected overlay or remapper can load with Windows and affect the game before the menu appears.
Check cooling and physical stability
Verify that the desktop or laptop has unobstructed airflow and that fans spin normally. Clean dust using the hardware maker’s safe procedure, but do not open a system that is under warranty unless you understand the terms. If the PC reboots, powers off, or crashes in several demanding applications, test the hardware and power delivery separately; a game-only crash points more strongly toward software or compatibility.

Use the known-issues tracker
Search Activision’s Black Ops 7 known-issues tracker for the exact symptom, map, mode, error message, and platform. A listed issue may require a game update rather than a local change. Note the issue’s status and any workaround exactly as written.
Submit a PC Crash Report when the failure is unlisted
For a persistent PC crash that is not listed, use Activision’s PC Crash Report. Include the crash time, what you were doing immediately beforehand, whether the game reached the menu, the exact error text, Windows and driver versions, GPU model, and which troubleshooting steps changed the behavior. Screenshots or a short recording of the failure can make the report easier to reproduce. Do not omit a step that failed; a negative result narrows the investigation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do I stop packet burst in BO7?
Packet burst is a network-quality symptom, not a guaranteed diagnosis of your PC or a single setting that everyone can change. Activision discusses latency or ping and packet loss, and recommends improving the path between your PC, router, internet service provider, and game service.
Use a wired connection
Connect the gaming PC directly to the router with Ethernet where possible. Activision states: “We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay.” A cable removes Wi‑Fi interference and variable wireless signal quality from the local link, although it cannot repair congestion or loss farther along the ISP path.
Stop competing traffic
Pause game downloads, cloud synchronisation, live video streams, large uploads, and other bandwidth-heavy activity on the household network. Ask other users to stop large transfers during a test match. If the warning disappears only when traffic stops, the home connection is being contended even if a speed test reports a high headline rate.

- The unique flat cable shape allows for a cleaner and safer installation. You can easily and seamlessly make the cable run along walls, follow edges & corners or even make it completely invisible by sliding it under a carpet.
Restart the network equipment
- Exit the game.
- Power off the router, and the modem or fibre gateway if it is a separate device.
- Wait until the equipment has fully shut down, then power the modem or gateway back on first.
- Wait for its normal connection lights, start the router, and wait for Wi‑Fi or Ethernet service to return.
- Reconnect the PC and test one match before restoring background downloads.
A restart can clear a temporary router fault or stale session. It cannot fix an overloaded line, damaged cable, or an outage, so recurring bursts require the next checks.
Enable router Quality of Service if available
Some routers provide QoS controls that prioritise a gaming device or manage queues when several devices upload or download at once. The exact menu and terminology differ by model. Enable QoS only if you can identify the gaming PC and understand how to undo the change; record the original settings first. Activision notes that some routers specialise in reducing lag but does not endorse a particular model.
Contact the ISP when the local path is clean
If Ethernet is stable, household traffic is stopped, the router has been restarted, and packet loss or high ping persists across sessions, contact your internet service provider. Give the provider the dates and times, whether other devices were affected, and any connection diagnostics it requests. If only Black Ops 7 is affected while other online services remain stable, include that distinction when reporting the problem.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse one controlled troubleshooting sequence
Changing many settings at once prevents you from learning which action helped. Follow this sequence and keep a short log of each result.
- Check Activision service status and note any platform alert.
- Verify Windows, CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM, SSD capacity, TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, DirectX 12, broadband access, and AVX support against the requirements table.
- Install current Windows and graphics-driver updates, then restart.
- Run the game with background applications, overlays, recording tools, and input-remapping software closed.
- For stutter, change one graphics setting or frame cap and repeat a comparable scene.
- For crashes, check the known-issues tracker and submit the PC Crash Report if the issue is persistent and unlisted.
- For packet burst, test Ethernet with other household traffic paused, restart the router, and configure QoS only when appropriate.
- Escalate unresolved service-side or line-quality problems to Activision or your ISP with the evidence you collected.
Match the remedy to the symptom
| Symptom | First place to investigate | Typical change type | Cost and reversibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uneven frames or hitching | GPU/CPU load, heat, drivers, and software overlays | Close applications, update the driver, lower one graphics setting, or cap frames | Usually no purchase; software changes are reversible |
| Launch or mid-game crash | Requirements, driver state, background hooks, known issues | Meet prerequisites, remove conflicting tools, report an unlisted failure | Usually no purchase; firmware changes require care |
| Packet-burst warning | Wi‑Fi or Ethernet link, household congestion, router, and ISP path | Use Ethernet, pause traffic, restart equipment, consider QoS | Ethernet may require a cable; QoS is reversible; ISP repairs are outside the PC |
| Platform-wide outage | Activision service status | Wait for service restoration | No local purchase or setting can resolve an active service outage |
What evidence to collect before escalating
- The exact symptom: stutter, crash, disconnect, or packet-burst warning.
- Date, UTC or local time, game mode, map, and whether the issue occurs every session.
- Windows edition, CPU, GPU, VRAM, RAM, SSD free space, and graphics-driver version.
- Whether the PC was on Ethernet or Wi‑Fi and whether other household traffic was running.
- The service-status result and any matching known-issue entry.
- Every change tested and its result, including steps that made no difference.
- Error text, screenshots, crash-report details, or a short recording when available.
This record prevents support from repeating basic checks and helps distinguish a local rendering fault from a service or ISP problem.
Keeping the system stable after the fix
Leave the working driver and graphics baseline documented. Re-enable overlays, recorders, and remapping tools individually rather than all at once. Keep enough SSD capacity for updates, maintain clear airflow, and avoid running large downloads during competitive matches. Recheck Activision’s requirements and driver guidance after major game or driver releases because the listed versions and supported hardware can change.
