First determine what kind of drain you have

Take a screenshot of the ranking before you manage apps. That gives you a reference if the symptom returns and prevents you from blaming an app based only on a single short session.
Because a foldable has an inner display and a cover display, record which one was active. Switching screens, opening the phone repeatedly, using the camera, streaming video, or navigating with a weak cellular signal can make active-use consumption look much worse than standby consumption. The important comparison is not a universal percentage; it is the change from your own normal pattern under similar conditions.

Run HONOR’s built-in battery optimization
HONOR’s first-line troubleshooting path is the phone’s own optimization tool. Menu wording varies by MagicOS version and region, so use the path that appears on your foldable.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery, then Battery optimization. On some builds, open System Manager first and choose Battery > Battery optimization.
- If your software shows one-click optimization, run it and wait for the scan to complete.
- Open App power consumption ranking.
- Inspect the highest-consuming apps over the displayed period. For an app that you do not need running in the background, open its management controls and limit or stop background activity.
A high ranking is not automatically an error: a navigation, camera, video, or game app can legitimately use substantial power while open. The useful warning sign is an app that remains near the top when you have barely used it, especially if it coincides with warmth or overnight loss.
How to read the ranking
Use the list as a comparison tool rather than a verdict. First ask whether the time period includes an activity you intentionally performed. A camera session, navigation route, upload, or long video call can place an app high in the list for a good reason. Next compare the ranking with your notes: an app that was barely opened but is high on the list deserves more attention than one used continuously on the inner screen.
Look for repetition. Check the list after normal daytime use and again after an overnight test with similar network conditions. If the same optional app remains unusually high, manage its background activity and observe whether standby behavior changes. If the list changes while the overall symptom remains, the problem may be broader system activity rather than one runaway app.
Manage apps without breaking notifications
Apply restrictions selectively. Messaging, mail, authentication, health, and work apps may need background access for timely alerts. Restricting them can delay synchronization or notifications. Start with apps you recognize as optional, then observe the ranking and standby behavior before changing another group.
Keep a short record of every change: the app, the restriction you applied, the time, and what happened to notifications. This makes it possible to reverse one change without losing track of several simultaneous causes. If an app is needed for an urgent alert, leave it unrestricted and investigate other entries first.
Allow time for a major MagicOS update to settle
A large system upgrade can temporarily increase consumption and warmth while the phone adapts applications, recompiles code, organizes gallery content, performs security scans, and relearns behavior for system and AI features. HONOR’s support guidance says this optimization can continue for about 24 hours; the same guidance states that remaining application optimization is completed within one to two days after an upgrade.

Give the phone a controlled settling period
- Install the update when you can leave the phone connected to a reliable charger.
- After installation, leave it charging with the screen off for about two hours, or complete an overnight idle charge.
- Avoid repeatedly restarting, clearing every app, or changing numerous battery controls during that period; those actions make the usage pattern harder to interpret.
- After the settling period, check standby loss and the app ranking again under similar signal and screen-use conditions.
The settling period is not a promise that every problem will disappear. It is a way to separate expected post-upgrade work from a persistent fault. Slight warmth and faster drain during the first day can fit HONOR’s explanation, while severe heat, repeated overnight losses, or a single app that remains dominant after one to two days calls for further action.
If the phone is still abnormally hot, loses a large percentage while idle, or shows one app repeatedly consuming power after this period, continue with the optimization steps rather than assuming every post-update problem is normal.

HONOR’s Power Saving mode limits background activity and visual effects. HONOR recommends enabling it when the battery is at or below 20% if you need the phone to last longer before charging.
When it helps
- Use it during travel, outages, or long periods away from a charger.
- Turn it on temporarily while diagnosing standby drain; a marked improvement suggests that background work is contributing to the loss.
- Use it after an update when you need reliable remaining runtime while the system completes its work.
Trade-offs to expect
- Background synchronization can be delayed.
- Some notifications may arrive later.
- Visual effects may be reduced and the interface may feel less fluid.
Power Saving mode is an endurance control, not a substitute for identifying a runaway app. If the phone drains rapidly even with the mode enabled and the screen off, treat that as a reason to investigate further.
For a useful test, enable the mode for a comparable screen-off interval rather than comparing it with a busy travel day. Note whether the phone stays cool, whether alerts arrive late, and how the ranking changes afterward. Turn the mode off when you need normal synchronization and visual behavior, then continue with app-level diagnosis instead of leaving every restriction enabled permanently.
Enable charging-care features for long-term battery health
Open Settings > Battery > More battery settings. If your build offers them, turn on Smart Charge and Smart Battery Capacity.
What Smart Charge does
Smart Charge learns your charging habits and reduces the time the battery remains fully charged. That is intended to reduce battery wear over the long term. It does not identify an app that is consuming power right now, so it should be enabled alongside—not instead of—the battery-usage investigation.

What Smart Battery Capacity does
Smart Battery Capacity is another charging-care option offered on some models and software builds. Availability and behavior can differ by region and version. Read the description shown on your phone before enabling it, and remember that these controls manage charging behavior rather than overnight software drain.
These features can change when charging reaches its final stage, so they may not match a schedule in which you expect an immediate full charge every time. Their purpose is battery-care behavior, not a way to recover charge already lost to an active app. If endurance suddenly changes, return to App power consumption ranking and the diagnostic sequence.
Test the refresh-rate setting on a Magic V3
An HONOR Community response to a Magic V3 battery complaint suggested trying Display and brightness > Screen refresh rate > Standard. This is a secondary-source suggestion, not a universal HONOR diagnosis, so treat it as a controlled experiment.

- Use the phone under your usual conditions for a comparable period, including a screen-off interval.
- Compare the battery percentage and temperature with the previous setting.
Standard refresh can reduce smoothness. Keep it only if the endurance improvement matters more to you than the higher refresh-rate experience. If it makes no measurable difference, restore your preferred setting.
Do not treat this setting as a fix for every MagicOS foldable. It is most useful when active screen use is the concern and you can compare like with like. Keep brightness, network conditions, app workload, and which display you use as consistent as possible. A change that helps only during a gaming or video session may not explain overnight drain.
Keep MagicOS current and use the correct manual
HONOR advises keeping the system updated because later releases can include power-consumption improvements. Check Settings > System & updates > Software update using the labels on your device, and install updates only when you can complete the post-update settling period without needing maximum battery life immediately.
Feature names, menu locations, and even the presence of Smart Charge, Smart Battery Capacity, or one-click optimization vary by model, region, and software build. The support manual for your exact foldable and regional edition is the authority when its wording differs from the paths above.

When reporting a problem, include the exact model and MagicOS version rather than describing the phone only as a “Magic” foldable. The inner and cover screens, regional software, and available battery controls can differ. A menu missing from your device is not necessarily a fault; it may simply not be offered on that build.

Use a symptom-based troubleshooting sequence
An app is consistently at the top of the ranking
- Confirm that the app was not performing a task you intentionally started, such as navigation, uploading, or media processing.
- Force-stop or restrict background activity only if you can accept delayed alerts.
- Use the phone normally and check whether the same app returns to the top.
- If it does, update or reinstall that app through its normal channel, then reassess its background use.
Do not restrict several high-ranking apps at once if you need to learn which one matters. Change the least important candidate first, then compare a similar period of use. If the app falls from the ranking but the phone still loses power at the same rate, keep looking rather than assuming the first change solved the whole problem.
The phone loses charge mainly overnight
- Record the starting and ending percentages and whether the phone was warm.
- Run one-click optimization and review the ranking.
- Repeat an overnight test with the same network conditions.
- If the loss remains severe with no dominant app, stop making random setting changes and prepare the device for service diagnosis.
Signal conditions matter: note whether the phone was on Wi-Fi, mobile data, or a weak cellular signal. The comparison is strongest when the charging state, location, network, and screen-off interval are similar. A single night is not enough to establish a pattern, especially during the one-to-two-day period after an upgrade.
The drain started immediately after an update

Compare active-use sessions with similar brightness, refresh-rate, network, and application conditions. A high screen-on workload can explain faster consumption even when no background app is misbehaving. The ranking helps distinguish that normal workload from an app continuing to run after you leave it.
Power Saving changes the result
If standby loss improves clearly with Power Saving enabled, background activity is likely contributing, but the mode does not identify which process is responsible. Use the improvement as a clue, then inspect the ranking and selectively manage optional apps. If there is little or no change, especially with the screen off, document the result for support rather than stacking more restrictions.
When battery drain requires authorized service
Back up important data and contact an HONOR-authorized service center when severe standby drain persists after optimization, the post-update settling period, and reasonable app management.
