If your Nothing phone started losing power faster immediately after an Android or Nothing OS update, first restart it, charge it overnight with the screen off, and use it normally for two to three days. Nothing says post-update power use can rise while the phone integrates and optimizes the new software. That recovery window is manufacturer guidance, not a guarantee.
If the drain remains severe, the phone becomes unusually hot, or one app is consuming most of the battery, move from waiting to diagnosis: inspect Settings > Battery > Battery usage, check app and system updates, review 5G and signal conditions, and identify whether the phone is running a beta build. Contact Nothing Support when those checks do not explain the behavior. A factory reset is a last resort after a complete backup.

Why an update can cause temporary battery drain
Nothing acknowledges that power consumption may increase after a system update. The phone needs time to integrate and optimize the new software, so battery life during the first period after installation may not represent normal operation. Nothing’s support guidance says that power use can recover after two to three days of normal use.
That timetable applies as a general expectation, not as a measured result for every model, update build, battery age, network, or region. No model-specific drain percentage or universal threshold has been established. If the phone is still losing power unusually quickly after the observation period, treat the problem as unresolved rather than assuming it will correct itself.

An update may also coincide with another cause. Nothing identifies 5G, weak Wi-Fi or mobile signal, cold temperatures, heat, and demanding activity as contributors to higher consumption. An app that was updated at the same time can also become the largest user of power. The diagnostic task is therefore to separate a short-lived post-update change from an app, network, environmental, or software-channel problem.
Use the symptom pattern to choose your first check

Step 1: Give a normal update time a fair, low-risk test
- Restart the phone. Use the normal power-menu restart. This is Nothing’s first-line advice and also an Android troubleshooting step.
- Charge overnight with the screen off. Leave the phone charging while the display remains off. Nothing specifically recommends this combination after an update.
- Use the phone normally for two to three days. Do not try to force a battery test with unusually heavy or unusually light use. Keep a simple note of the approximate start and end battery levels, whether the phone became hot, and what network you used. The two-to-three-day period is guidance from Nothing Support, not an independently measured recovery guarantee.
- Move on if the symptom is severe. A phone that becomes inexplicably hot, loses power rapidly during light use, or remains abnormal after this period should be diagnosed immediately rather than being left indefinitely in a waiting phase.
Step 2: Find the app or feature using the battery
Open Settings > Battery > Battery usage. Nothing gives this path for identifying the largest consumers, although the exact labels can vary by Nothing phone model and software version.
Read the list before changing settings
Look for an app or system feature whose share of use is out of proportion to how much you used it. Compare the list with your actual behavior: a navigation app used for an hour should appear, while an app you barely opened but that remains near the top deserves investigation. Also note whether the display, mobile network, or another built-in feature is prominent; the result may point to conditions rather than a single faulty app.

Update the suspected app
Install any available update for an app that is consuming unusually high power. Android’s battery guidance recommends checking app updates as part of persistent troubleshooting. Recheck Battery usage after the update and another period of ordinary use instead of judging the result immediately after installation.

Review background battery controls carefully
Use the app’s battery controls to restrict an unusually high-drain app where appropriate. Restriction can delay background synchronization, notifications, location updates, or other functions, so apply it to the app that is actually implicated rather than restricting everything. If the app is essential for calls, messages, navigation, health tracking, or work, test the effect and make sure its required notifications still arrive.
Step 3: Check 5G, Wi-Fi, and mobile-signal conditions
Radio conditions can make a phone work harder even when the update is healthy. Nothing lists 5G and weak Wi-Fi or mobile signal among possible causes of higher power use.
Review the preferred network type
Go to Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Preferred network type. The available choices depend on the phone, carrier, SIM, and region. If 5G is enabled, compare battery behavior with another available network preference in an area with reliable coverage. This is a diagnostic comparison, not a claim that one setting is universally best; a slower network in a weak-signal location may not improve battery life.

Compare strong and weak coverage
Notice whether the drain is concentrated in locations where the signal indicator is poor, the phone repeatedly changes network type, or Wi-Fi is unreliable. Test ordinary use in a location with stronger coverage when possible. If the battery falls much faster only in weak coverage, report that pattern to Nothing and your carrier rather than attributing all of it to the update.

Step 4: Rule out temperature and demanding activity
Nothing identifies low temperature as a possible contributor and also notes heat and heavy activity in its power-and-charging guidance. Gaming, extended camera recording, navigation, hotspot use, high screen brightness, and other demanding tasks can make a phone consume more power during the test period.
- If the phone is cold, let it return to a normal indoor temperature before judging battery behavior. Do not deliberately heat or freeze it.
- If it is hot, stop demanding activity and allow it to cool naturally. Avoid covering a hot phone or continuing a workload solely to reproduce the drain.
- Record whether heat appears during charging, weak-signal periods, a particular app, or ordinary idle time. Unexplained heat during light use is a reason to contact Nothing Support.
- Keep the test comparable. A day spent gaming or using navigation cannot be compared directly with a mostly idle day when deciding whether the update changed battery life.
Step 5: Install available stable updates and restart again
Android recommends restarting the phone and checking for both app and operating-system updates when battery trouble persists. Apply updates offered through the phone’s normal stable channels, then restart and observe the result. An app fix may address a high consumer found in Battery usage; a later system update may address a software defect, but neither outcome is guaranteed.
Do not install beta software as a battery remedy. A pre-release build can introduce different battery behavior and makes diagnosis harder. If your phone already uses a beta build, use the beta-specific guidance below instead of moving between builds casually.

As checked on October 13, 2026, Nothing’s OS 5.0 information described an open beta and warned that beta software could affect battery life and performance. That warning is directly relevant if your drain began after joining a beta or after installing a beta update. Record the exact build shown in the phone’s software information and include it when contacting support.

Beta rollout details are time-sensitive: Nothing describes device timing as indicative and subject to change. The same OS 5.0 information says Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 will not receive OS 5.0. Do not infer that a phone is eligible, ineligible, stable, or affected by a rollout based only on its model name; confirm the current Nothing information for your device and region.
If you are on a beta build, do not assume that a two-to-three-day wait will produce the same behavior as a stable release. Follow Nothing’s current instructions for reporting, updating, or leaving that software channel, and avoid an improvised downgrade or reset before your data is backed up and the procedure is confirmed.

Contact Nothing Support when the phone remains abnormal after the restart, overnight screen-off charge, Battery usage review, update checks, and network or temperature checks. Escalate sooner if it becomes inexplicably hot or loses power rapidly during light use.

Prepare useful evidence
- Exact Nothing phone model and region.
- Android and Nothing OS version or build number.
- Date and time the drain began, and whether it followed a stable or beta update.
- Battery usage screen showing the leading apps or features.
- Whether the symptom changes with 5G, weak signal, Wi-Fi, cold conditions, heat, or demanding activity.
- What you already tried, including the restart, overnight charge, observation period, app updates, and network-setting test.
This information lets support distinguish a software-channel issue from a network, app, environmental, or hardware concern. Keep the phone’s model and build in the report because the title of an update alone is not enough to identify the exact software state.
Factory reset: a last resort, not the first fix
Android describes a factory reset as a last resort for persistent battery problems, and Nothing’s troubleshooting material likewise includes backing up before a reset. A reset erases user data and settings; it is not a guaranteed cure for an update-related bug and should not be used to avoid identifying a high-drain app or network condition.
- Back up photos, messages, authenticator data, files, and any app data you cannot replace.
- Make sure you know the account credentials and recovery methods needed after setup.
- Contact Nothing Support first if the phone is unusually hot, the drain is severe, or the Battery usage list points to a system component.
- Only use the reset option provided by your model’s current software instructions. The exact menu wording can differ by model and version.
- After resetting, restore data selectively and observe battery behavior before reinstalling every app at once. This can help reveal whether an app reintroduced the drain.
What not to do
- Do not treat the two-to-three-day guidance as a promise. It is Nothing’s expected recovery window, not a guarantee for every phone.
- Do not chase a percentage threshold. No official model-specific drain rate or universal percentage trigger establishes when an update is defective.
- Do not buy a charger as a solution to this symptom. Nothing’s charger guidance concerns charging problems; the cited troubleshooting guidance does not say that purchasing a charger fixes post-update battery drain.
- Do not install a beta to solve a stable-release problem. Nothing warns that beta software can affect battery life and performance.
- Do not repeatedly factory-reset without a backup or diagnosis. A reset costs time and data and may not address a network, temperature, app, or beta-build cause.
- Do not ignore unexplained heat. Heat during light use or while idle warrants support attention rather than continued experimentation.
How to describe an unresolved case accurately
Nothing phone models, Android versions, Nothing OS builds, update timing, and regional rollouts differ. When asking for help, state the model, exact build, stable or beta channel, update date, network conditions, temperature, and the top entries in Settings > Battery > Battery usage. Avoid saying only that “the latest Android update” caused the problem; that description does not identify which software package or device is involved.
The most defensible sequence is therefore simple: allow the manufacturer’s short optimization window, use Battery usage to find evidence, test network and environmental contributors, apply stable app and system updates, and escalate persistent or hot-device symptoms. Keep a factory reset behind a backup and a support conversation, not in front of them.
