An app that is missing from Google Play, refuses to install, crashes, lacks Google services, or displays an integrity warning can have a different cause. LineageOS is Android and runs Android apps generally, but an individual provider can exclude a device based on certification, boot state, software image, region, account, app version, or its own policy. There is no universal LineageOS switch that makes every banking, wallet, or streaming app accept an unofficially certified device.
Use the device-specific LineageOS guide, install any intended Google Apps package in the documented order, check the app provider’s current requirements, and treat Play Integrity as a provider policy signal rather than a problem that unofficial bypass instructions can reliably solve.

What the failure actually tells you
Write down the exact symptom before changing anything. The distinction determines which fixes are sensible and which could erase data without helping.
- Unavailable in Google Play: the provider or Play Store may be filtering the device, Android release, country, account, or device-certification state.
- Installation is refused: the package may require a different Android API level, Google components, storage conditions, or an integrity verdict.
- The app installs but closes: the cause can be an app bug, incompatible version, missing dependency, account rule, or an integrity response.
- A security, certification, or “device not secure” message: this points more strongly toward the provider’s device or boot-state policy, although the provider’s exact threshold still has to be confirmed.
- Only one feature fails: contactless payment, protected video playback, account enrollment, or another sensitive function may have stricter checks than the rest of the app.
Record the phone model, Android version, LineageOS build, app version, country, Google Apps package (if any), whether the bootloader is unlocked, and the complete error text. Do not assume that a failed integrity check explains every crash or installation error.

How Play Integrity affects LineageOS
Google defines the MEETS_DEVICE_INTEGRITY verdict as evidence that an app is running on a genuine, certified Android device. For Android 13 and later, Google’s documented criteria include hardware-backed proof that the bootloader is locked and that the loaded operating system is a certified manufacturer image. A LineageOS installation normally does not provide that manufacturer-image evidence.
Google also defines MEETS_BASIC_INTEGRITY, a less restrictive tier. Under that tier the bootloader can be locked or unlocked, the boot state can be verified or unverified, and the device can be uncertified. An app developer decides which verdicts, combinations, or additional signals to require. Therefore, “passes a checker,” “Play Protect certified,” “meets device integrity,” and “this particular app accepts the phone” are not interchangeable claims.
Apps can use several integrity tiers in a graduated enforcement strategy. One service may continue with a warning, another may block account enrollment, and another may refuse to launch. The same LineageOS phone can consequently work with one app and fail with another without any contradiction.
The LineageOS Project states: “LineageOS is Android. It supports apps the same way as any other Android device, but apps might choose to exclude you from using them.” The project also says it does not intentionally circumvent integrity checks and does not support or endorse bypass methods.
Check official device support before changing software
Open the official LineageOS installation guide for the exact model and read its device-specific “Device integrity” quirks section. LineageOS directs users there when an app excludes a device. A guide for a similar-looking phone is not a substitute: regional variants, firmware, partitions, and signing behavior can differ.

Confirm that the build and device match
- Use the exact model identifier listed by the guide.
- Confirm that the installed LineageOS release supports your Android version and device.
- Check whether the guide requires a particular firmware or upgrade path before installation.
- Read warnings about known app exclusions or integrity behavior for that device.
If the model is not officially supported, app troubleshooting becomes harder because there may be no maintained installation procedure, device-specific warning, or recovery path from the project.
Verify Google Apps setup, but do not expect it to guarantee acceptance
If you intended to use Google services, compare your installation with the exact device guide. LineageOS says its Google Apps add-on must be sideloaded before the first boot into LineageOS. Installing it later, using a package for the wrong Android release, or following a sequence from another device can create missing-service and compatibility problems.

- Back up anything you cannot replace.
- Check the guide’s required Android release and matching Google Apps package.
- Follow the guide’s recovery and sideload steps exactly.
- Install the add-on before the first LineageOS boot when the guide calls for it.
- Boot the system, finish initial setup, and update the app and Google components through their normal channels.
Correct Google Apps setup can address missing Google services, but it is not a promise of MEETS_DEVICE_INTEGRITY. Google’s definition also concerns the bootloader and certified manufacturer image, not merely whether Google Play services are installed.
Do not confuse a flashing connection problem with an app-policy problem
The LineageOS guide suggests trying another USB port, cable, or hub when fastboot cannot communicate. Those steps can help install or repair the operating system. They do not change an app’s integrity verdict after the phone is running, so replacing a cable is not a fix for a wallet or streaming service that explicitly rejects the device.
Separate root, bootloader state, and operating-system certification
These are different conditions:
- Root access: whether privileged access has been granted inside the running system.
- Bootloader state: whether the device permits or verifies software according to its hardware root of trust.
- OS certification: whether the loaded image is the certified manufacturer software expected by a provider’s integrity policy.
Removing a root-management application, changing an app permission, or hiding an icon does not automatically lock the bootloader or turn LineageOS into a certified manufacturer image. Conversely, a phone can be unrooted and still fail a provider’s requirement for a locked bootloader and certified image.

Why relocking is not a routine fix
Android’s Verified Boot documentation explains that a locked device verifies loaded software against the device’s root of trust. An unlocked device can be allowed to boot software that is not signed by that root. Android also documents that transitions between bootloader states wipe data partitions.

Do not relock merely because a banking or wallet app fails. Relocking is device-dependent, can erase your data, can prevent the installed software from booting, and does not establish that the provider will accept a custom operating system. Only follow a device-specific, official relocking procedure when you have verified that the installed software is signed and supported for that transition.
A safe troubleshooting sequence
- Capture the symptom. Save the exact message and note whether the failure affects installation, launch, login, enrollment, payment, playback, or one other feature.
- Check ordinary compatibility. Verify Android version, app version, device model, country availability, account status, and required Google components in the provider’s current documentation.
- Read the device guide. Check official support status and the “Device integrity” quirks for the exact model.
- Audit the installation. Confirm that firmware, recovery, LineageOS, and any Google Apps package match the guide. If Google Apps were intended, confirm that the add-on was installed before the first LineageOS boot.
- Update through supported channels. Install the current LineageOS build available for the device and the current app version, provided the provider still supports that Android release.
- Test without destructive changes. Restart the phone, verify date and network settings, clear the affected app’s cache or reinstall it if its provider documents that step, and check whether the same account works through an approved browser interface.
- Classify the result. Missing services or a setup error may be repairable. An explicit integrity or certification rejection is more likely a policy restriction.
- Stop before risky changes. Do not erase data, unlock or relock the bootloader, or install an unofficial bypass solely on the assumption that it will change the provider’s verdict.
Banking apps: protect access and evidence first
Banking applications often combine ordinary Android compatibility with controls around device security, account enrollment, screenshots, overlays, rooted state, or integrity verdicts. The exact rule belongs to the bank and can change by country, app release, and account type.
If the bank app is missing or refuses installation
Check the bank’s current support page for supported Android versions and device requirements. Confirm that the Play Store account and country are correct, then compare the phone with the LineageOS guide. Do not sideload a banking package from an unverified source: it can expose credentials and will not necessarily satisfy the bank’s integrity policy.
If login or enrollment is blocked
Read the message literally. A temporary account lock, failed SMS verification, incorrect time, or server outage is different from “device not secure” or “unsupported device.” Contact the bank through its published support channel and ask whether browser banking, a secure mobile website, telephone banking, or another approved method is available on an uncertified device.

Keep a fallback before experimenting
Ensure you can receive security codes, access your bank’s website, and reach customer support before uninstalling or resetting anything. A bootloader transition can wipe the data partition, and an unsuccessful software change can remove the only working authentication method.

Wallets can enforce a stricter device policy for tokenized cards and contactless payments than for ordinary account viewing. A wallet may open while payment enrollment or tap-to-pay remains blocked.
When only payments fail
Check whether the provider specifically requires a certified device, a locked bootloader, or a particular security level. Confirm NFC, screen-lock, date, and region settings, but do not treat those checks as a substitute for the provider’s integrity requirement. If the message names certification or device security, adding Google Apps alone is unlikely to change the underlying verdict.
Use an approved alternative
Where offered, use the provider’s browser account, physical card, or another payment method it explicitly supports. Do not enter card details into an unofficial replacement application while troubleshooting.

Streaming failures can be caused by ordinary playback dependencies, an unsupported Android release, regional licensing, account limits, or device-integrity enforcement for protected content. A service may allow browsing but block playback, high-definition output, downloads, or casting.
Distinguish playback from integrity rejection
Check the app’s version and Android requirements, sign out and back in if the provider recommends it, and test the provider’s official web player. If only protected playback is refused and the message cites device certification or security, treat that as a provider policy rather than a generic LineageOS crash.
Do not promise a ROM change will restore protected content
Because each provider chooses its enforcement threshold, no general LineageOS setting can guarantee playback. Check the service’s current supported-device list and use an approved browser or certified device if the provider excludes the installed configuration.
What not to do
- Do not assume every failure is caused by root or Play Integrity.
- Do not follow a bypass guide as though it were an official, permanent fix. LineageOS does not endorse bypassing integrity checks, and enforcement can change.
- Do not relock the bootloader casually. The operation can wipe data or make the phone unbootable.
- Do not claim that a particular Google Apps package guarantees banking, wallet, or streaming compatibility.
- Do not use a cable, hub, or fastboot repair as an answer to an app-policy rejection.
- Do not install modified banking or wallet packages from unknown sources.
Choose the least risky workable option

The practical decision is based on four questions: what the provider requires, how much data or device risk you can accept, whether the method is supported, and how reliable the result must be. If the app is essential and the provider requires a verdict the current phone cannot supply, a certified factory-Android device is the more predictable category of fallback. Verify compatibility for the exact app and device before purchasing or migrating.
When there is no supported fix
Some combinations simply cannot satisfy the provider’s stated requirement. If the app requires hardware-backed evidence of a locked bootloader and a certified manufacturer image, and the installed configuration cannot provide that evidence, the available official documentation does not establish a universal workaround. At that point, keep LineageOS and use an approved alternate channel, or move the essential task to a supported certified device.
Recheck requirements whenever the app, Android release, device firmware, or provider policy changes. A result that works today is not a permanent guarantee, and a failure on one app does not prove that every app will fail.
