Make a local OBS recording and compare the same moment with the YouTube output. If both are out of sync, investigate the loop source and audio routing; if only YouTube is out of sync, check encoder health, ingest warnings and the outbound connection. An OBS sync offset can help with a measured, stable mismatch, but it is not an established fix for progressive drift.
1. Find out what kind of sync problem you have
Note when the stream is synchronized and when it becomes wrong. A steady audio/video offset points to a different troubleshooting path from a gap that keeps increasing over time. Do not start by guessing a delay value: first establish whether the problem is constant or progressive.

- Start a representative local recording in OBS while the loop is running.
- Watch or listen to the local recording and the YouTube stream or archive at the same point in the program.
- Check whether the mismatch is present locally, appears only in YouTube’s output, or changes over time in either output.
OBS recommends recording a normal session and reviewing it. YouTube likewise recommends checking the encoder and comparing its local archive when a stream looks or sounds wrong. YouTube stream latency is the delay between capture and playback; it is not, by itself, audio drifting relative to video.

2. Check the loop source before changing sync controls
In OBS, open the Media Source properties for the source playing the loop. Confirm that it is the intended file and check its playback speed, audio track and Loop setting. If the source is expected to start again when it becomes active, verify the restart behavior as well. Make one change at a time and capture a short test after each change.

If you use VLC Video as the source, check playlist looping and its network-caching setting. A source or playlist problem should not be treated as an RTMP problem without first checking what OBS is actually playing.
3. Trace the audio path and look for duplicate capture
Identify which source supplies the loop’s audio. Check whether that same device is also captured globally in OBS under Settings → Audio and separately as a scene source. OBS warns that capturing an input or output device in both places can cause echo.

- Listen to the source before it reaches OBS, if your setup lets you monitor it there.
- Monitor the audio in OBS and compare it with the video at the same point.
- If the mismatch first appears in OBS, check the routed source, selected track and device capture rather than assuming the YouTube connection caused it.
If the loop audio comes from a device capture, test timestamp handling only as a controlled experiment. OBS documents a Windows-only Use Device Timestamps option for Audio Input/Output Capture that attempts to prevent desynchronization. Its effect depends on the operating system, source and device, so test it on your setup rather than treating it as a guaranteed fix.

Use YouTube’s Live Control Room and your encoder to determine whether the stream is reaching YouTube cleanly. YouTube advises using the latest encoder version, checking the stream in the encoder, reviewing Live Control Room errors and CPU load, and comparing the local archive. If the encoder output looks healthy, investigate the outbound internet connection; if it does not, inspect the routed audio and video sources or encoder.

Verify the ingest settings
YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and keyframes recommended every 2 seconds and no more than 4 seconds apart. For audio, it specifies AAC or MP3, with a 44.1 kHz sample rate for stereo or 48 kHz for 5.1 surround. Use current YouTube error messages to identify unsupported formats, audio-stream count, sample-rate or frame-rate problems.
These settings are an ingest baseline, not proof that an incorrect keyframe interval or audio sample rate caused gradual sync drift. Correct any reported setting errors, then make a fresh test recording and compare the outputs again.

5. Use an OBS sync offset only for a stable mismatch
When you have measured a consistent offset in a local recording or recorded stream, adjust one relevant delay control and validate the result with another recording. Avoid applying an arbitrary value just because the audio appears late at one moment. A fixed offset can align a constant mismatch; the available official guidance does not establish that it corrects a gap that continues to grow.
