First find where the sync goes wrong: compare the encoder preview, a local recording made with the same setup, and YouTube playback. If the recording is already out of sync, check sources and adjust the encoder’s audio sync offset in small, repeatable tests. If the recording is in sync but the YouTube stream is not, investigate stream health, encoder load and the outbound connection before changing the offset. There is no established India- or music-specific desync cause; the same diagnosis applies to a continuous Indian music stream as to other YouTube live streams.
Locate where audio and video first diverge
Use the usual playback sources, routing and encoder settings. Compare three points: what the encoder preview shows, a local recording made by that encoder, and the stream as viewers receive it on YouTube. YouTube Help’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder output, routed audio and video sources, CPU load and local archive. Restream’s sync guidance makes the local recording a useful split: a recording that is already out of sync points toward the source or encoder setup, while a synchronized recording with a live-only problem points attention toward delivery, network or CPU conditions.
This comparison narrows the search; it does not prove there is only one fault. A source issue and a delivery issue can coexist. Note whether audio leads or lags, whether the offset stays constant or drifts over time, and whether one viewer or multiple viewers on different connections report it. YouTube says a report from one viewer is more likely to reflect that viewer’s device or connection; similar reports from multiple viewers can indicate an encoder issue.
Make the comparison useful
- Use a short, representative recording with both music and visible movement, rather than judging a static frame or a silent interval.
- Check playback at the same point in the recording or stream so you are comparing the same audio and visual event.
- Write down whether the audio is early or late and whether the mismatch is constant or grows during playback.
If the local recording is out of sync
Confirm the selected sources
In your encoder, verify that the intended audio input and video source are selected and that the expected routing is active. If you recently changed devices, routing or sources, retest after restoring the intended configuration. A sync offset cannot reliably compensate for an incorrectly selected or malfunctioning source.

Tune the audio sync offset with repeatable tests
Use the encoder’s mixer or advanced audio properties to change its audio sync offset, then make a fresh short local recording after each change. Restream’s article, dated 2024-07-15, uses +200 ms and -200 ms as example test values; these are diagnostic examples, not universal presets. The correct value depends on the measured lead or lag and on how your particular encoder defines its offset.
- Record a short sample and identify which arrives first: the sound or the matching visible action.
- Change the offset in one direction by a small, documented amount, then record the same kind of sample again.
- Compare the result. If the mismatch worsens, test the other direction; if it improves, refine the amount until the local recording is acceptably aligned.
- Repeat the check after changing devices or routing, since an offset that suited the previous setup may no longer suit it.
Menu names vary across encoder software and versions. The sources reviewed do not establish a single OBS-specific offset value or an offset that should always delay audio.

If the recording is in sync but YouTube playback is not
Do not start by changing a working local offset. Check whether the problem is live-only, then inspect encoder health, CPU load, dropped frames and outbound connection stability. YouTube Help recommends checking the outbound connection and contacting the internet service provider if it is problematic. OBS Project’s “Stream Connection Troubleshooting,” dated 2024-09-30, explains that dropped frames can occur when a connection is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate and recommends network diagnosis; it also recommends a wired connection for streaming.
OBS’s connection guide suggests setting video bitrate based on stable upload capacity and platform limits, with 75% of total upload speed offered as a starting point in that guide. That is not a YouTube-specific rule and is not a guaranteed fix for a fixed audio offset. Avoid lowering quality or changing network settings blindly: first establish that the local recording is synchronized and that the problem occurs in delivery.

Check who is affected
- If one viewer reports the issue, ask them to check another device or connection before changing the stream configuration.
- If several viewers on different connections report the same mismatch, inspect the encoder output and YouTube stream health more closely.
Read YouTube’s stream-health messages
In YouTube Live Control Room, inspect messages alongside the Health Indicator and note when each appeared. YouTube Help distinguishes critical red messages from moderate yellow ones. Its live-stream error guidance includes audio format, bitrate, sample rate and number of audio streams; Google for Developers’ “Configuration Issues for LiveStream Resources” also documents sample-rate mismatch and video-ingestion starvation. Treat an error as a clue to investigate, not proof that it caused the observed timing mismatch. Correct errors actually reported for the session, then check sync again.
Check audio configuration without guessing
- YouTube Help’s live-stream error guidance recommends an audio bitrate of 128 Kbps and calls out a 44.1 kHz sample rate. The page’s publication date is not stated.
- Google for Developers’ API health documentation lists 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz as recommended audio sample rates; its publication date is not stated.
- Because those pages present sample-rate guidance differently, follow the current error shown for your stream and check that the encoder configuration matches the ingest requirements rather than assuming 48 kHz alone causes desync.
- Check whether the stream is sending the intended number of audio streams and the format and bitrate reported by the encoder and Live Control Room.
YouTube transcodes live input for different viewer devices and network conditions. Its encoder-settings guidance recommends choosing a quality that suits the connection, testing with representative audio and movement before going live, and monitoring stream health. This is why source, encoder and viewer playback checks should remain separate stages of diagnosis.

Prepare a 24/7 stream so the fault is easier to catch
YouTube’s guidance does not specify a separate desync procedure for 24/7 streams. Apply the same checks before relying on a continuous broadcast: test with representative audio and visible movement, verify a local recording, and monitor the Live Control Room health indicator while live. Recheck after a source, routing, encoder or network change, because the previous sync result may no longer describe the current setup.
For an Indian music channel, the genre and location do not change this technical diagnosis. Separately, make sure you have the rights needed to use the recordings and any other material in the broadcast, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and reused-content rules; technical sync checks do not establish that content is permitted.

Common symptoms and what to check
| What you observe | First checks |
|---|---|
| The local recording and stream both have the same mismatch | Confirm selected audio and video sources, then test the encoder’s offset with fresh local recordings. |
| The local recording is aligned but YouTube playback is not | Check Live Control Room messages, encoder health, CPU load, dropped frames and outbound connection stability before changing a local offset. |
| Only one viewer reports the problem | Ask that viewer to compare another device or connection; a single report may be viewer-side. |
| Several viewers on different connections report the same issue | Inspect the encoder output and live stream health for a shared source, encoder or delivery problem. |
| The mismatch changes after a source or device change | Recheck source selection and make a new recording before reusing the previous offset. |
| A health error appears during the session | Record its timestamp and correct the specific reported configuration issue, then verify whether sync changed. |
When the cause remains unclear
Keep a short local sample, the time the mismatch was observed, the direction and whether it drifts, relevant Live Control Room messages, and whether one or multiple viewers are affected. That gives your encoder or platform support team concrete evidence to investigate. YouTube Help advises reporting continuing live-stream problems; Restream’s sync article also points users with complex sync problems toward its support.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the local setup is the recurring weak point, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist streaming to YouTube from the cloud: upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It does not repair a desync already embedded in a file or guarantee that a particular sync fault will disappear, so check the uploaded material and test playback first.
- Your computer, OBS and home internet connection do not have to stay on to keep the stream running.
- Each slot streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot with no quality tiers.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams made from uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
