There is no single documented India-specific cause for ApiFlash screenshots failing on regional-language websites. Diagnose the result in layers: check the API response, verify how the site selects its language, wait for the content and fonts you need, and investigate font delivery if glyphs are missing or wrong. The symptom tells you which branch to follow; changing one parameter will not fix every case.
Start by checking whether ApiFlash returned an image
Before debugging language rendering, inspect the HTTP status and response body. ApiFlash documents these common statuses in its API documentation:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- 400: An invalid parameter or a target the service cannot capture. The response includes an explanatory error message; JSON response mode can provide additional details.
- 401: The access key is invalid or revoked.
- 402: The monthly quota is exhausted.
- 403: The requested feature is not supported by the plan.
- 429: The request rate is too high.
- 500: The capture failed.
If the response is an error rather than an image, fix that request, credential, quota, plan, or rate-limit problem first. A valid image with the wrong language or missing text needs a rendering diagnosis instead.

ApiFlash’s accept_language parameter sets the Accept-Language request header. Use the locale the target site recognizes, for example:
#1 Best Overall
accept_language=ta-IN
Replace that example with the locale appropriate to the site and language. ApiFlash describes this parameter as a way to request a specific language, but the target site decides how to use the header. Some sites select language from a locale-specific URL path, a cookie, or saved application state instead—or in addition. Check the site’s normal behavior and use the corresponding URL or session information where needed; do not assume the header overrides those choices.
Wait for the content you actually need
A screenshot can be captured before client-rendered text, translated content, or fonts have arrived. ApiFlash documents wait_until, wait_for, and delay as capture timing controls.
Rank #2
wait_untildefaults tonetwork_idle; the documented alternatives includedom_loadedandpage_loaded. Its timeout can be set up to 30 seconds.wait_forwaits for a CSS selector. If that selector is not found within 15 seconds, the capture aborts.delaycan add up to 10 seconds before capture.
Prefer waiting for a meaningful page state or an element that indicates the language content is ready. A fixed delay can help diagnose a timing problem, but it is not a reliable substitute for checking the relevant content.

Diagnose missing or incorrect glyphs
If the page is in the right language but characters appear as boxes, substitutions, or incorrectly shaped text, inspect the page’s font resources. ApiFlash says its screenshots run in Chrome on Linux. Linux’s installed system fonts can differ from those on a local Windows or macOS computer, so text that looks correct locally may not render identically in a screenshot. ApiFlash’s FAQ recommends that websites serve their own fonts rather than depend on host-installed fonts.
Rank #3
Also check whether font requests are succeeding. ApiFlash warns that custom headers are applied to all requests, including font requests, and can interfere with external fonts. If you have added headers, test whether removing or narrowing them allows the font files to load.
Indian languages use multiple scripts and have text-processing considerations that are not reducible to a generic “encoding” problem. Check the actual text and font delivery before attributing a glyph issue to encoding. Unicode’s materials discuss scripts including Devanagari, Gurmukhi, Kannada, and Tamil; the Unicode Standard, version 17.0, provides standards context for script and character behavior.
Rule out a cached screenshot
ApiFlash may return a cached screenshot when the request parameters are identical. Set fresh=true to request a new capture while diagnosing a page that has changed. This does not invalidate the older cached screenshot.

A challenge page, denial, or unexpected login screen can mean the target site is restricting the capture rather than failing to render its language. ApiFlash’s FAQ says bot-protection services can block captures and suggests a proxy, with the required level depending on the protection. For pages that require a session, the documented options include cookies and headers. These controls may help, but none guarantees access; use only credentials and access methods you are authorized to use.

| Symptom | What to check | Documented control or next step |
|---|---|---|
| Readable page, wrong language | How the site chooses its locale | Set accept_language; inspect locale paths, cookies, or application state |
| Content or fonts missing from the image | Whether the page and resources finished loading | Choose a suitable wait_until condition or wait for a relevant selector |
| Boxes, substitutions, or unexpected shaping | Font requests and reliance on system fonts | Check external font loading and serve the site’s own fonts where possible; account for Chrome on Linux |
| Image unchanged after the page changed | Whether identical parameters returned cached output | Request fresh=true |
| Error status or non-image response | Status, response body, key, quota, parameters, plan, and request rate | Correct the specific API or account error shown |
| Challenge, denial, or login page | Bot protection or missing session state | Check supported proxy, cookie, or header options; access is not guaranteed |

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its API can return an image or PDF from one request; the example below saves a WebP screenshot of the same target URL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Before capture, it accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and each response reports the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools for screenshots, page information, and PDF capture. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
