Those are different problems, and the right next step depends on the symptom, console generation, and whether you’re installing digitally or from disc.
Start by identifying what is stuck
Before changing settings, note what you see on the console:

- Missing game: You cannot find the title in your library.
- Stalled queue: The title appears in the queue, but its progress is not advancing or the installation has stopped.
- Slow download: Progress is moving, but unusually slowly.
- Disc installation at 0%: The install is being started from a disc and remains at zero.
- Error message: The console displays a compatibility message or an error code.
Xbox Support maintains separate guidance for Xbox One installation problems, slow game or app downloads, and disc installations that stop at zero. The steps on those pages may vary by console and symptom, so use the page that matches your case rather than applying unrelated fixes.
If the game is missing from your library
On Xbox One, Microsoft’s documented first check is My games & apps > Ready to install. Look there for the game or app before treating it as a failed download. Microsoft’s guide to finding games and add-ons on Xbox One covers this check.

If Xbox reports a compatibility problem
Open the game’s listing in the Microsoft Store and check whether a compatible version is available for your console. Microsoft recommends this when a compatibility error appears. Do not assume that every Xbox game works on every Xbox console; compatibility depends on the specific title and console. See Microsoft’s Xbox One games and add-ons guidance.
If a digital download is stalled or very slow
Use Xbox Support’s page for an installation that has stopped if the queue is not progressing, or its page for slow downloads if progress continues but is sluggish. These results cover Xbox One; specific current steps for Xbox Series X|S are not established by the available guidance here. Avoid applying disc-specific troubleshooting to a digital download, or assuming a network change is the answer without evidence that the issue is network-related.

If a disc install stays at 0%
Keep this case separate from a stalled digital download. Xbox Support has a specific article for disc installation stopping at zero. Follow that guidance for the disc-install symptom rather than guessing at download-queue fixes.
