If you broadcast a YouTube radio stream, first find out whether the encoder lost its internet connection when the broadband link reconnected. Test outbound upload, check the encoder and YouTube stream health, and ask your ISP whether a WAN interruption coincides with the IP change. A public-IP change alone is not established as the cause, and resetting the stream key is not a general fix. If you mean that you are listening to a radio stream, use the separate playback checks below.
First identify whether you are broadcasting or listening
The two problems happen on different connections. A broadcaster must keep an encoder’s outbound connection to YouTube Live working. A listener needs a reliable playback connection from YouTube to their device. An encoder-side fix will not repair a listener’s Wi-Fi, and a listener cannot fix the broadcaster’s encoder.

YouTube warns that connectivity disruption can break a live stream, but its published guidance does not say that an Indian broadband public-IP change by itself causes a drop. A reconnection may briefly interrupt the active connection; determine whether that happened rather than assuming the address change is the cause.
Fix a broadcast that drops
1. Capture what happens at the moment of failure
- When the stream drops, check whether the streaming computer or encoder still has internet access. See whether other sites or services also disconnect.
- Record the time, the encoder’s exact message, any notice in YouTube Live Control Room, and whether the stream resumes by itself.
- Check whether the encoder is still sending and whether its local output appears healthy. If it is not, inspect the encoder software, CPU load, and audio and video inputs; check a local recording if you have one.
This evidence helps distinguish a local encoder problem from a loss of the broadband connection. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder, stream health, and internet connection.

2. Test outbound upload and leave capacity in reserve
Download speed is not enough to assess a broadcast: inbound bandwidth is often greater than outbound. Test the connection’s upload performance, including whether it remains stable, and compare it with the total bitrate you are sending. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit the available upload bandwidth; its streaming tips recommend 20% upload headroom and say to account for both primary and backup stream bitrate where applicable.
If upload is inconsistent or the connection drops, give your ISP the test results and failure timestamps. Ask whether the broadband WAN link briefly disconnects or renegotiates when the public IP changes. The available YouTube guidance does not establish how a particular Indian ISP handles address changes.

3. Separate Wi-Fi trouble from an ISP-side interruption
If practical, connect the encoder directly to the router using Ethernet and run a controlled test. This removes Wi-Fi as one possible cause; it cannot keep the stream connected if the router loses its upstream ISP connection. YouTube’s streaming tips also advise testing the connection and preparing the encoder before a live broadcast.

A stream key is the configuration credential the encoder uses to send its feed to YouTube. If YouTube reports a key or encoder start error, follow its troubleshooting steps to reset the key if needed, then update the encoder with the new value. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance covers managing stream settings. A public-IP change alone is not a documented reason to reset the key.

5. Test backup failover before relying on it
If you have a backup encoder, test failover in advance: YouTube suggests stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable, then confirming playback moves to the backup. Do this during a planned test, not by disrupting an important broadcast. YouTube’s live streaming tips cover preparation and testing.
If you mean the stream drops while you are listening
- Try the same YouTube stream on another device or internet connection. Check whether other YouTube videos and unrelated services also stall.
- If the problem is limited to one device on Wi-Fi, check router range and interference, and reduce competing network use. YouTube’s computer playback troubleshooting suggests checking the connection and local network conditions.
- If playback stops on multiple devices when the broadband connection changes, give your ISP the times it happened and ask whether the WAN link disconnects during the address change.
What not to assume or buy first
- Do not treat a new IP address as a proven root cause. Find out whether the broadband connection itself was interrupted at the same time.
- Do not reset the stream key as a catch-all. Use key-reset guidance for a key or encoder error, not as a presumed network repair.
- Do not assume Ethernet solves an upstream drop. It can isolate Wi-Fi, but it cannot prevent an ISP-side interruption.
- Do not assume static IP, dynamic DNS, a VPN, or a new router will preserve an active YouTube ingest connection. The cited YouTube guidance does not guarantee that outcome. Ask the ISP what happens to the WAN session during address changes before changing the setup.
