How to Fix AI Smart Glasses That Won’t Connect to Your Phone

If your AI smart glasses won’t connect, first check that they’re charged and switched on, Bluetooth is enabled on your phone, and the glasses are in pairing mode. For Ray-Ban Meta glasses, complete setup in the Meta AI app—not just the phone’s Bluetooth menu. The steps below are specific to Ray-Ban Meta; button sequences and app menus can differ by brand and generation, so identify your glasses model and phone platform before following them.

First, identify what kind of connection problem you have

“Won’t connect” can describe two different problems: the glasses fail to pair during setup, or a device that was already paired drops its active Bluetooth connection. Start with the path that matches what you see. For initial setup, use the pairing steps below. For glasses that used to connect, check power and proximity, then restart before removing and pairing the devices again.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Glasses do not appear during setup: Check charging, Bluetooth, pairing mode, and the companion app.
  • Glasses appear in phone Bluetooth settings but not in the app: Remove the stale Bluetooth association where applicable, then use the app’s Add device flow.
  • Previously paired glasses disconnect: Keep the phone nearby, temporarily disconnect other Bluetooth devices, and restart the glasses.
  • You are setting up glasses linked to another account: Account association may matter; read the factory-reset warning before changing anything.

Ray-Ban’s US and India product FAQs document the specific Ray-Ban Meta procedures described here. The instructions cited here were accessed October 9, 2026. Support instructions and app labels can change, and instructions for one model or region should not be assumed to apply to another.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before changing settings, note whether you are doing first-time setup, reconnecting glasses you have used before, or trying to connect glasses that were previously owned by someone else. Also identify whether your phone is an iPhone or Android phone. These details matter because the documented Ray-Ban Meta instructions distinguish some iPhone and Android steps, and an account association can affect a transfer to a new owner. If you have another brand of glasses, use that manufacturer’s exact app and support instructions instead of trying Ray-Ban’s button sequence.

Check charging, power, and Bluetooth

Make sure the glasses can power on

Charge Ray-Ban Meta glasses in their charging case and make sure the glasses’ power switch is on. For a first charge, remove the protective plastic tab covering the case’s metal charging contacts. If the glasses or case are not receiving power, a pairing attempt cannot get far enough to establish a connection.

If the case itself will not charge, try a different USB-C cable, then another power adapter. Ray-Ban’s regional FAQ notes that some chargers may not be compatible. This is a charging check, not a Bluetooth repair: changing a cable or adapter is relevant when the case is not charging, not as a general fix for a connection error.

Keep the charging check proportionate to the symptom. If the glasses power on and the case is charging, move on to Bluetooth and pairing mode rather than repeatedly swapping charging accessories. Conversely, if the case is not charging, resolve that first; pairing instructions cannot help if the glasses have no charge. The documented first-charge check is specifically about removing the protective tab from the case contacts, not a software setting.

Check the phone and its position

Turn on Bluetooth on the phone you want to pair. For an active Ray-Ban Meta Bluetooth connection error, keep the phone close to the glasses; Ray-Ban suggests keeping it in front of you or in a front pocket. Temporarily disconnect other Bluetooth devices and retry. These are connection checks for Ray-Ban Meta, not a guarantee that every pairing problem is caused by interference.

Try the proximity and other-device checks while troubleshooting an active connection that drops or errors. If the glasses never appear during first-time setup, make sure the case LED indicates pairing mode and follow the app setup flow as well. Moving the phone closer does not replace putting the glasses into pairing mode, and turning Bluetooth on does not complete the app-based setup by itself.

Put Ray-Ban Meta glasses into pairing mode

  1. Switch on the glasses and dock them in the charging case.
  2. Check the case LED. A blue flash or pulse indicates that the glasses are ready to pair.
  3. If pairing mode does not start automatically, press and hold the button on the back of the case for at least 5 seconds.
  4. Wait for discovery. The glasses can take up to 10 seconds to appear.
  5. Open the Meta AI app, sign in, and choose Settings > Add device. Follow the on-screen setup flow to finish pairing.

Use the companion app to complete setup even if you can see the glasses listed in the phone’s Bluetooth settings. The phone’s Bluetooth list can help identify an old association, but Ray-Ban’s pairing flow is completed through the Meta AI app.

If the blue light does not appear, check the order of operations: the glasses should be switched on and docked in the case. If pairing mode still does not start automatically, hold the case button for at least five seconds and look again for the blue pulse. Once it appears, allow up to ten seconds for discovery before deciding the glasses have not shown up. These wait times are part of the documented Ray-Ban Meta flow; they are not a promise that every phone or model will display the same screens.

Sign in to the Meta AI app and use its Add device option rather than treating a Bluetooth-list entry as a completed setup. If the app’s menu names have changed, look for the equivalent option to add glasses in Settings and follow the prompts shown for your device. The app path and pairing-mode button sequence are specific to Ray-Ban Meta procedures, not a universal recipe for AI glasses.

Remove an old Bluetooth association before trying again

A saved Bluetooth association from an earlier attempt can interfere with fresh setup. If the glasses already appear in the phone’s Bluetooth settings, remove the old entry before retrying. Ray-Ban’s US FAQ specifically instructs iPhone users to choose Forget This Device and says this step is not necessary on Android. A regional Ray-Ban FAQ also advises forgetting an existing Bluetooth entry if it appears. Follow the instruction for your phone platform and the support page for your region.

After removing an old association, return to the Meta AI app and start again through Settings > Add device. Do not treat selecting the glasses only from the phone’s Bluetooth menu as a substitute for the companion-app setup flow.

This distinction is especially useful when the glasses show in Bluetooth but the app does not finish connecting. The Bluetooth entry means there is an association to consider removing; it does not mean the app-based setup is complete. Remove the old entry only as directed for your platform, then return to the Meta AI app and use Add device. If you are on Android, the US FAQ says forgetting the device is not necessary, so do not assume the iPhone instruction applies unchanged.

Restart the glasses before unpairing or resetting

Try a normal restart

Switch the glasses off, then switch them back on. Ray-Ban says they should reconnect to the app within a few minutes. A normal restart does not erase captures or unpair the glasses.

Use a normal restart first when glasses that were already paired stop reconnecting. Give them a few minutes to reconnect to the app before moving to unpairing. A restart is the least disruptive recovery step in this sequence: according to Ray-Ban, your captures remain and the pairing remains in place.

Force restart if a normal restart does not help

  1. Switch the glasses off.
  2. Press and hold the capture button.
  3. While holding it, switch the glasses back on.
  4. Release the capture button when the status LED turns red.

Ray-Ban’s FAQ says this force restart also preserves captures and does not require pairing the glasses again. The steps are model-specific; do not try this sequence on another brand or generation unless its manufacturer documents it.

The red status LED is the release cue in the documented force-restart sequence. This is not the same sequence as a factory reset: do not continue by pressing the capture button five times or wait for the orange user LED when your goal is only to force restart. If the normal restart and the documented force restart do not help, proceed to app unpairing and a fresh pairing attempt before considering a factory reset.

Unpair in the app, then pair again

If restarting does not restore the connection after a few minutes, remove the app pairing and the phone’s Bluetooth association, then run setup again. In the Meta AI app, Ray-Ban’s documented path is Settings > Your glasses > General > Unpair glasses. App labels may change, so look for the equivalent unpair control if your version’s menus differ.

  1. In the Meta AI app, open Settings > Your glasses > General > Unpair glasses.
  2. In the phone’s Bluetooth settings, remove or forget the glasses entry if one is present. On iPhone, Ray-Ban specifies Forget This Device; its US FAQ says this phone-side step is not necessary on Android.
  3. Put the powered-on glasses back into pairing mode using the case LED and button procedure above.
  4. In the Meta AI app, choose Settings > Add device and follow the setup instructions.

Unpairing and pairing again are not the same as a factory reset. Use this less destructive re-pairing procedure first when the app or saved Bluetooth association appears to be the problem.

Work through the sequence in order rather than removing only one half of the setup. First unpair from the Meta AI app using the glasses settings. Then deal with a Bluetooth entry if one is present and appropriate for your phone platform. Put the glasses back into pairing mode, wait for discovery, and run Add device in the app. The purpose is to replace the old app and phone associations with a fresh setup; a factory reset is not needed just because the app labels or Bluetooth list look confusing.

Know what each recovery step changes

Action When to use it Effect on captures and pairing
Normal restart A previously paired connection is not recovering. Ray-Ban says captures are preserved and the glasses remain paired.
Force restart A normal restart has not helped. Ray-Ban says captures are preserved and pairing is not required again.
Unpair, remove Bluetooth entry, and pair again The app or saved phone association appears stale. Removes the pairing so setup must be completed again; it is not the documented capture-erasing factory reset.
Factory reset Only after less destructive steps fail, or when account reassignment requires it. Permanently deletes captures stored on the glasses and removes account associations; setup is required again.

The practical difference is the amount of disruption. Restarting is intended to recover a connection while retaining pairing and captures. Unpairing means you will need to complete app setup again, but Ray-Ban’s documented capture-erasing warning is for factory reset. Factory reset is the step that removes account associations and permanently deletes captures stored on the glasses. If you are unsure which operation a menu or button sequence triggers, pause and check the instructions for the exact model rather than guessing.

Factory reset only as a last resort

Warning: Ray-Ban says a factory reset permanently erases captures stored on the glasses and removes associations with the Meta account. It is not a restart, and it is not a lossless first troubleshooting step. If the captures matter, do not proceed until you understand that they will be deleted.

The US FAQ documents this reset sequence for Ray-Ban Meta glasses: close the right temple arm, press the capture button five times until the user LED turns orange, then press and hold the capture button until the LED flashes. Release it and wait for the LED to cycle through white and green before turning the glasses off. Afterward, unpair and run the app pairing flow again.

Reset instructions may differ by generation or region. Confirm the procedure for your exact glasses before pressing buttons; do not transfer this sequence to another smart-glasses model.

Keep the LED cues distinct: the orange user LED follows five capture-button presses, and the later flashing and white-and-green cycle belong to the documented reset sequence. Do not start it as a test or as a substitute for switching the glasses off and on. If you only want to reconnect a device that was already paired, try restart, force restart, and unpair/re-pair first. The reset is irreversible for captures stored on the glasses according to Ray-Ban, so decide whether that loss is acceptable before proceeding.

When an account change is the reason for resetting

Ray-Ban states that its Meta glasses can pair with only one Meta account at a time. If you are switching accounts or setting up previously owned glasses, the existing account association may prevent setup. A factory reset may be needed, but it carries the same permanent capture-loss consequence described above.

That one-account limit makes previously owned glasses a different case from an ordinary connection drop. If the glasses are still associated with another Meta account, repeatedly retrying Bluetooth setup may not address the account issue. A factory reset may be needed to remove the association, but it also deletes captures stored on the glasses. Do not reset simply because the phone cannot see the glasses until you have ruled out charging, pairing mode, the app flow, and stale Bluetooth associations.

If the problem happens during a call or video sharing

A connection failure limited to Android video calls is different from glasses that cannot pair at all. For poor connection specifically during Android video calls, Ray-Ban’s FAQ recommends turning phone Wi-Fi on, turning a VPN off, and turning the phone hotspot off. These checks address that call-sharing scenario; they are not general solutions for initial pairing failures.

Ray-Ban’s support FAQ also identifies a view-sharing issue on Pixel phones running Android 14. Treat this as a reported, specific compatibility issue—not an explanation for every Pixel connection failure or a current guarantee about all Android 14 devices. Check the current official support page for its status before relying on it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use these call-specific checks only if pairing is already working and the trouble appears during an Android video call or sharing a view. Turn Wi-Fi on, disable the VPN, and turn the phone hotspot off, then see whether that particular sharing problem changes. These settings are not a substitute for the basic pairing sequence, and they do not establish why an unrelated Bluetooth or setup failure is happening. The Pixel/Android 14 note is narrow and may change as support information is updated.

When to contact support

If the glasses still do not appear after charging, entering pairing mode, using the Meta AI app, restarting, and removing stale app and Bluetooth pairings, use Ray-Ban’s official warranty claim portal. A hardware fault is possible, but the connection symptoms alone do not establish that diagnosis; service inspection is needed. If the case itself will not charge, use the official case troubleshooting guidance after checking another USB-C cable and adapter.

Before contacting support, be ready to describe the model and phone platform, whether this is first-time setup or a previously working connection, and which recovery steps you tried. Note what the case LED does in pairing mode and whether the glasses appear in Bluetooth settings or the Meta AI app. This helps distinguish a failure to enter pairing mode from a stale association or an active connection problem without guessing that the glasses have a hardware fault.

For glasses from another manufacturer, contact that brand’s support if its own pairing flow fails. The Ray-Ban button sequence, reset steps, app path, and platform-specific Bluetooth instructions above are not universal smart-glasses procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do my Ray-Ban Meta glasses show in Bluetooth but not connect to the app?

A saved phone Bluetooth association can interfere with a fresh setup. Use the Meta AI app’s Add device flow rather than relying on the Bluetooth list alone. If an old entry is present, Ray-Ban’s US FAQ tells iPhone users to choose Forget This Device; it says that phone-side step is not necessary on Android. Then put the glasses in pairing mode and retry in the app.

How do I put Ray-Ban Meta glasses in pairing mode?

Switch on the glasses and dock them in the charging case. A blue flash or pulse from the case LED indicates pairing mode. If it does not start automatically, hold the button on the back of the case for at least five seconds, then allow up to ten seconds for the glasses to appear. Complete setup through Settings > Add device in the Meta AI app.

Will restarting Ray-Ban Meta glasses delete my captures?

Ray-Ban says a normal restart and a force restart preserve captures and do not require pairing again. A factory reset is different: it permanently deletes captures stored on the glasses and removes account associations.

Should I factory reset smart glasses that will not connect?

Not as a first step. Check charging, Bluetooth, pairing mode, the companion app, and stale associations; then try restarting and unpairing/re-pairing. For Ray-Ban Meta, factory reset should be a last resort because it permanently erases captures stored on the glasses. Confirm the instructions for your exact model and region before using a reset sequence.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can Ray-Ban Meta glasses be connected to more than one Meta account?

Ray-Ban says its Meta glasses can pair with only one Meta account at a time. Switching accounts or setting up previously owned glasses may require a factory reset, which also permanently deletes captures stored on the glasses.

What should I try if the connection fails only during Android video calls?

For poor connection specifically during Android video calls, Ray-Ban recommends turning phone Wi-Fi on, turning a VPN off, and turning the phone hotspot off. These are call-sharing checks, not general fixes for initial pairing failures.

Do these button steps work for every brand of AI smart glasses?

No. The case-button, capture-button, LED, and app instructions here are specific to Ray-Ban Meta procedures. Identify your glasses model and use that manufacturer’s support instructions for other brands or generations.

The Bottom Line

For Ray-Ban Meta glasses, check charge and phone Bluetooth, enter pairing mode in the case, and finish setup through the Meta AI app. If the glasses were already paired, restart before unpairing and pairing again. Save factory reset for a last resort: it permanently deletes captures stored on the glasses and removes account associations. Use the exact instructions for your model and phone platform.
