If Windows reports that adsldpc.dll is missing, not found, corrupted, or preventing a program from starting, repair the Windows component store and the affected application rather than downloading a single DLL. Adsldpc.dll belongs to Microsoft’s ADSI LDAP provider stack, so the correct fix depends on whether the failure is system-wide, limited to one application, tied to an update, or caused by a version or architecture mismatch.
Work through the supported steps below in order. Do not replace a system DLL with a file from an untrusted download site, and do not treat the message alone as proof of malware.

What adsldpc.dll does
Adsldpc.dll is one of the Windows libraries used by the Active Directory Services Interface (ADSI) LDAP provider. Microsoft describes the relationship this way: “The LDAP provider is associated with Adsldp.dll, Adsldpc.dll, and Adsmsext.dll.” The provider also requires Adsldp.dll, Adsldpc.dll, Adsmsext.dll, and Activeds.dll on the client computer.

A genuine Windows copy is a component of the operating system, but a filename alone does not prove that every copy is authentic. A damaged Windows component, an incomplete update, an application installer, or a third-party utility can leave the dependency missing or unusable. Microsoft notes that dependency conflicts can arise when a dependent DLL is upgraded, repaired incompatibly, overwritten by an earlier version, or removed.
What the error message tells you—and what it does not
Common wording includes “adsldpc.dll is missing,” “adsldpc.dll not found,” “the program can’t start because adsldpc.dll is missing,” and “adsldpc.dll corrupted.” These messages mean that the calling program could not load a required dependency. They do not identify the cause by themselves.
- Windows component damage: The file or a related ADSI component may be missing or have invalid system-file data.
- Incomplete or incompatible servicing: An update may have stopped part way through, or a component may have been replaced by a version that does not match its dependents.
- Application installation damage: If one program alone shows the message, its installer, registration, or bundled dependencies may be at fault.
- Third-party changes: Cleanup software, manual file replacement, security remediation, or an uninstall can remove or overwrite a dependency.
- Architecture mismatch: A 32-bit application and a 64-bit application do not use identical DLL locations and binaries. Installing a file for the wrong architecture can create another load failure.
Record whether the message appears at every Windows startup, only when one application opens, or only when an LDAP or Active Directory task runs. That distinction determines whether you should begin with Windows servicing or the application’s own installer.
Collect the facts before changing anything
- Copy the exact message. Note the full program name, the action that triggers it, and any additional error code or module name.
- Identify the Windows release and build. Press
Win+R, enterwinver, and record the edition and build number. Also note whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit in Settings or System Information. - Look for a recent change. Write down the date of the first failure and whether it followed a Windows update, application update, uninstall, cleanup operation, driver or security change, or unexpected shutdown.
- Determine the scope. Test another application and, if practical, another Windows user account. A failure limited to one program points toward that program’s installation; failures across several programs point toward Windows components.
- Preserve recovery options. If the computer is stable enough, create a restore point and keep installers or recovery media for the affected application before making repairs.
Manual repair sequence
1. Restart Windows and finish pending updates
Restart once before deeper repair. A pending reboot can leave a component partially serviced and can prevent a replacement from being registered.
After restarting, install all applicable updates for the installed Windows release. On Windows 11, open Settings > Windows Update. On Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. Select Check for updates, install the offered updates, and restart whenever Windows requests it. Repeat the check until no further restart is required.
Do not interrupt an update or shut down while servicing is in progress. If the error began immediately after an update, record that fact; it will matter when you review update history and support options later.

2. Repair or reinstall the affected application
If only one application reports adsldpc.dll, repair that application before replacing anything in the Windows directory. Use the application’s own Repair or Modify option when available. In current Windows versions, you can also try Settings > Apps > Installed apps > [the application] > Advanced options > Repair; not every desktop program exposes these controls. Older installers may provide Control Panel > Programs and Features > Change.
Start the program after the repair. If the same message remains, uninstall it, restart Windows, and reinstall it from the publisher’s original installer or managed software source. Use the edition and architecture that match the installed application. Export application settings or data first if the program stores local information that an uninstall could remove.
An application reinstall is especially important when the error appears only during a directory or authentication feature. The installer can restore the program’s registration and its expected dependency set together, whereas copying one DLL cannot.
3. Repair the Windows component store and protected system files
Run Microsoft’s supported image-servicing and system-file workflow from an elevated command window. Save work first, then open Windows Terminal (Admin), PowerShell (Admin), or Command Prompt (Admin). Approve the User Account Control prompt.

If DISM reports that source files cannot be found, make sure Windows Update is working and that the computer can reach the update source used by your organization; do not substitute a random image or DLL.

When DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannowSystem File Checker examines protected files and attempts to restore incorrect versions. Read the final message. A result saying that repairs were completed is different from one saying that some files could not be repaired. Restart Windows after the scan, then reproduce the original action in the affected program.
Windows editions use different servicing tools and support lifecycles. On an older release where the commands above are unavailable or fail because the servicing stack is obsolete, follow the Microsoft repair procedure for that exact edition rather than forcing files from another release.
4. Check architecture and file integrity
Do not copy an x86 DLL into a 64-bit system location, or a 64-bit DLL into a location used by a 32-bit process. A 32-bit application running on 64-bit Windows can use a different system-library path from a 64-bit application. Confirm the application architecture in its documentation or installer and match any repair media to the Windows edition and architecture.

If a file named adsldpc.dll already exists, inspect its Properties dialog and the Digital Signatures tab when present. An unexpected location, a missing or invalid signature, or a file timestamp that coincides with an unofficial cleanup operation is a reason to stop and use Windows servicing or the original installer instead. Do not overwrite the file manually while Windows is running.
Never download a loose DLL from a generic DLL repository. Such files can be an incorrect build, lack the companion ADSI libraries, contain unwanted modifications, or create a version conflict that is harder to diagnose. A successful copy operation is not proof that the original application can safely load the file.
5. Review update and uninstall history
Open Settings > Windows Update > Update history on Windows 11, or Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View update history on Windows 10. Compare the installation dates with the first adsldpc.dll failure.

If the problem clearly began after a particular update, use the supported uninstall option shown for that update only when Microsoft’s guidance for your release recommends it and you have a recovery plan. An update rollback is not a substitute for installing a compatible, current update, and removing security updates can increase exposure. If no uninstall option is offered, preserve the update number and build information for support rather than deleting files in the component store.

Microsoft published a hotfix for an ADSI API wait issue observed in Windows Server 2012 R2. The article also lists Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 as applicable products. It documents an adsldpc.dll version of 6.3.9600.18116, dated 03-Nov-2015, in both x64 and x86 packages, and introduces a default ADSI timeout of 10 minutes for the described condition. A restart may be required.
This is not a general missing-DLL remedy and should not be presented as a universal fix for Windows 10 or Windows 11. Verify that the operating-system edition, architecture, symptom, and update branch exactly match the Microsoft support article before considering it. On a different release, use current servicing for that release instead.
7. Reproduce the failure and verify the result
After each repair stage, perform the action that originally failed: start the named program, sign in if that is when the error appeared, and run the LDAP or directory operation that triggered the message. A repair is not confirmed merely because a command ended without an error; the original program must start and the message must not recur.
Record the date, Windows build, commands run, application version, and result. That record prevents repeated repairs that change several variables at once and gives Microsoft or the application publisher enough detail to identify a version-specific defect.
When the error remains
Use Windows logs to separate a missing file from a load failure
Open Event Viewer and inspect Windows Logs > Application around the failure time. Look for the application name, the faulting module, side-by-side or application-error events, and any servicing events recorded at the same time. The event may show that adsldpc.dll exists but cannot load because another dependent module is missing or incompatible.

Windows’ Reliability Monitor can provide a chronological view of application failures and update installations. Compare the first red failure marker with the first update or software change instead of assuming that the DLL named in the message is the root cause.
Use dependency analysis when another module is implicated
Microsoft describes dependency-analysis tools that can identify missing or invalid modules and mismatched operating-system modules. Use such a tool only on a copy or diagnostic view of the installation and interpret its results in the context of the installed Windows build. A warning about an optional delay-loaded component is not necessarily the same as a missing required ADSI library.
If analysis identifies Adsldp.dll, Adsmsext.dll, Activeds.dll, or another Windows module, repair the Windows component set or the affected application as a group. Replacing only adsldpc.dll can leave the dependency chain inconsistent.
Escalate with precise version information
Contact the application publisher when one program still fails after its repair and Windows servicing completes. Provide the exact error text, application version, Windows edition and build, architecture, event-log details, and whether the failure occurs only during LDAP or Active Directory work.
For failures affecting multiple applications or Windows sign-in and directory functions, use Microsoft support or your organization’s Windows and Active Directory administrator. Include the servicing results and the update-history dates. Do not send a DLL copied from an unofficial site as a proposed fix.

- Windows has been restarted and brought current for its supported release.
- The affected application has been repaired or reinstalled from its original source when appropriate.
- DISM and SFC, or the equivalent supported servicing tools for the installed release, have completed.
- The Windows edition, build, application architecture, and any hotfix package match.
- No DLL from an untrusted repository has been copied into a system directory.
- The original program starts and the LDAP or directory operation completes without the adsldpc.dll message.
