The safest sequence is to update Creative Cloud, repair Acrobat when applicable, verify that Adobe is installed on a local drive, then use Adobe’s Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool and reinstall if the error remains. A related bad-image dialog can show status 0xc000012f, especially while Creative Cloud setup is running.
What the adobepim.dll error means
adobepim.dll is an Adobe component file. A failure involving it can appear during Creative Cloud installation or startup. One reported setup case identified the file at C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAdobeAdobe DesktopCommonCoreadobepim.dll and displayed the message that the file was “not designed to run on Windows or contains an error,” with status 0xc000012f.

The same symptom does not prove one universal cause. Adobe groups comparable DLL-loading failures into several categories:
- The file is missing or damaged.
- The installed file does not match the Adobe application version.
- Adobe was installed in an unsupported location or the path is no longer accessible.
- Windows or the Adobe installer cannot access the file because of permissions.
- A required Microsoft runtime is missing; this is particularly relevant when the dialog names
msvcp110.dllormsvcr110.dll.
Because these causes look similar on screen, read the complete dialog before changing anything. Do not assume that replacing one file will repair the installation that loaded it.

Identify the exact failure before repairing it
Record the message and environment
Write down the complete error text, including any status code, the Adobe product that is affected, its version if shown, your Windows edition and version, and the installation path. If the dialog names a different DLL, record that name too. This information determines whether you should start with an Adobe update, an Acrobat repair, a runtime prerequisite, or a complete cleanup and reinstall.
Use the message to choose the first branch

Fix adobepim.dll step by step
1. Close Adobe processes and preserve the evidence
Dismiss the error, close Creative Cloud, Acrobat, and other Adobe applications, and save the wording you recorded. If Creative Cloud setup is still open, cancel it rather than repeatedly launching the same failed installer. Do not delete adobepim.dll manually; removing the file can make a repair or uninstall less complete.
2. Update the Creative Cloud desktop app
An out-of-date Creative Cloud desktop app can cause launch problems and DLL errors. Open the Creative Cloud desktop application, check for its available update, install the latest version offered for your Windows installation, and restart Creative Cloud. Then retry the operation that produced the error.

If Creative Cloud cannot open far enough to update, continue to the cleanup-and-reinstall procedure below instead of downloading a standalone DLL. A failed launch is itself a reason to repair the Adobe installation rather than replace one file in isolation.
3. Repair Acrobat when Acrobat is the affected product
This branch applies to Adobe Acrobat, not to every Creative Cloud application.

- Open Control Panel.
- Choose All Programs (the installed-programs list).
- Right-click Adobe Acrobat.
- Select Repair and allow the process to finish.
- Restart Windows, even if the repair does not request an immediate restart.
After Windows starts again, launch Acrobat. If the same DLL message remains, do not repeat the repair indefinitely; proceed to Adobe component cleanup and a fresh installation.
4. Check the installation drive and path
Adobe specifically states that Acrobat must be installed on the local system drive. A mapped or network drive is not supported and can lead to DLL-loading errors. In File Explorer, check the drive letter and location shown for the Adobe installation. If it points to a network share, mapped drive, or a location that is no longer available, uninstall the affected Adobe product and reinstall it on the local Windows system drive using Adobe’s installer.

Windows may be able to display a path while the Adobe process cannot reliably load dependencies from that location.
5. Check access permissions without changing the DLL
Adobe lists restricted permissions as a possible cause of related DLL failures. Confirm that you are using an account allowed to install software and that security software or organizational policy has not blocked the Adobe installation directory. If your computer is managed by an employer or school, an administrator may need to perform the repair or reinstall.
Do not “fix” a permissions problem by granting broad write access to the entire Windows directory. Keep changes limited to the Adobe installation process and follow your organization’s policy.

6. Install the Microsoft runtime only when the dialog names it
If the error specifically identifies msvcp110.dll or msvcr110.dll, install or reinstall the corresponding Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft, then restart Windows and retry Adobe. Adobe ties this step to those named runtime errors; it is not a general remedy for every message that mentions an Adobe DLL.

If the dialog names only adobepim.dll, installing a Visual C++ package without that evidence is unlikely to address the underlying Adobe installation problem.
7. Remove the damaged Adobe components with Adobe’s Cleaner Tool
If updating or repairing did not work, use Adobe’s supported cleanup route:
- Uninstall the affected Adobe application and the relevant Creative Cloud components through Windows’ installed-app controls.
- Download and run Adobe’s Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool from Adobe’s support resources. Read its prompts carefully and select only the Adobe products or components you intend to remove.
- Allow the tool to complete, then restart Windows.
- After the restart, install Creative Cloud and the required Adobe application again from Adobe.
The Cleaner Tool is intended for removing residual or damaged Adobe components that a normal uninstall can leave behind. It is not a replacement for the installer, and it should not be used casually to remove unrelated Adobe products. If you have presets, plug-ins, local templates, or other application data you need, back them up before uninstalling.
8. Reinstall on the local system drive
During the fresh installation, accept a local system-drive location rather than a mapped or network path. Let the installer complete before opening the application. Interrupting setup, running multiple installers simultaneously, or restoring an old DLL into the new directory can recreate the mismatch that caused the original error.

9. Restart and verify the result
Restart Windows after the reinstall, then open Creative Cloud and the affected Adobe product. Check that the application reports the expected version and that the original operation—sign-in, installation, update, or launch—now completes. If the dialog changes to a different DLL name, record the new text; it may identify a separate prerequisite or a remaining installation issue rather than proving that adobepim.dll was the only problem.
Why downloading adobepim.dll is a bad first fix
Random DLL-download sites are not an Adobe-supported distribution channel. An Adobe Community Expert warned that files from unspecified sources may be corrupt, the wrong version, or—if you are unlucky—contain malware. A third-party repository may offer AdobePIM.dll files and instructions to copy them into application or Windows directories, but that does not verify the file’s provenance, compatibility, or relationship to your installed Adobe build.
Copying a DLL into System32 is especially risky. It can replace one error with another, create a version mismatch, and hide the actual problem in the Adobe installation. It can also make later cleanup harder because the file no longer reflects what Adobe’s installer placed there. Use the original Adobe installer and Cleaner Tool instead.
What to do when the first repair does not work
The error returns immediately after updating Creative Cloud
That pattern suggests that the damaged component was not replaced or that another Adobe component is inconsistent. Move to the Cleaner Tool sequence rather than repeatedly reinstalling the desktop app over the same files.

Acrobat repair is unavailable
If the installed-programs entry does not offer Repair, or if the repair exits with an error, treat the installation as needing cleanup and reinstallation. Confirm the drive is local before reinstalling.

The error appears only during setup
Capture the exact setup message and status code, then verify that the installer is writing to the local system drive and that your account can install software. A clean removal with Adobe’s Cleaner Tool followed by a fresh download addresses incomplete setup files more directly than replacing adobepim.dll manually.
A different DLL is named after reinstalling
Use the new DLL name to choose the next step. A message naming msvcp110.dll or msvcr110.dll points to the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable branch. A message naming another Adobe component points back to Adobe installation integrity, path, or permission checks. Do not assume that all DLL names require the same download.
The application still fails on a managed PC
Security controls, software restriction policies, and limited user rights can prevent Adobe files from being registered or loaded. Ask the device administrator to perform the uninstall, Cleaner Tool run, and reinstall, and provide the exact path and status code you recorded.
When the problem is resolved
- The original dialog no longer appears during Creative Cloud setup or launch.
- Creative Cloud and the affected Adobe application show the expected installed versions.
- Acrobat, if involved, launches from its local-drive installation.
- No DLL was copied from an unverified source or placed manually in
System32. - If a Microsoft runtime was required, it was installed because the dialog named the corresponding runtime DLL and Windows was restarted afterward.

Fix an adobepim.dll error by repairing the Adobe installation, not by hunting for a replacement file. Update Creative Cloud, use Acrobat’s built-in Repair option when available, keep Adobe on the local system drive, install Visual C++ only when the dialog names its runtime DLLs, and use Adobe’s Cleaner Tool plus a fresh reinstall when the component remains damaged. The 0xc000012f bad-image message is a signal to follow that integrity-and-installation path.
