To fix a YouTube stream health resolution warning, match the width and height your encoder is sending to the resolution selected in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room under Ingestion Settings. If YouTube gives an expected resolution, use that as the target—or select a resolution the encoder actually outputs. Check the exact warning wording: “not optimal” calls for reviewing the choice, while “not supported for this configuration” identifies a mismatch to correct.
What YouTube’s resolution warning means
YouTube compares the incoming video dimensions with the resolution selected in the stream’s ingestion settings. The encoder’s actual output and YouTube’s selected resolution must agree; changing just one side can leave the warning unresolved. YouTube’s help guidance does not identify the right dimensions for your specific bhajan stream, so use the expected resolution shown in Live Control Room rather than assuming a particular setting. YouTube’s resolution error guidance explains the mismatch.

A warning that the current resolution “is not optimal” is different in tone from one saying it “is not supported for this configuration” and naming an expected resolution. Note the exact message and any expected value before changing settings.
Fix the mismatch in Live Control Room
- Open the stream health details. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, open the warning and record its exact wording and any expected resolution. YouTube says errors are timestamped and remain visible if not fixed; red errors are critical and yellow errors are moderate, though they can still degrade quality. YouTube’s stream health guidance describes these messages.
- Check the selected resolution. Find the stream’s resolution under Ingestion Settings. Compare it with the encoder’s actual output width and height.
- Make the two values match. Either configure the encoder to send the selected resolution, or select a resolution in YouTube that the encoder sends. If the warning names an expected resolution, use it as the target when your encoder and available bandwidth can support it.
- Check automatic versus manual detection. YouTube recommends automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default. If you selected resolution manually, verify the manual setting on the custom stream key as well as the encoder’s dimensions. YouTube’s encoder-settings guidance describes the manual option.
- Send a test feed and recheck health. Test before the public stream, with audio and video movement similar to the real broadcast. After the change, confirm the warning clears and monitor Live Control Room during the stream; its health messages report what YouTube is receiving.
Automatic detection or manual resolution?
| Approach | What to check | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic detection | YouTube detects the resolution and frame rate being sent. The encoder still needs to output the dimensions you intend to use. | YouTube recommends this by default; it avoids selecting a manual resolution that differs from the incoming feed. |
| Manual resolution | Check that the custom stream key has manual settings enabled, that YouTube’s selected resolution is correct, and that the encoder sends the same width and height. | Use it when you intentionally need a fixed selection and can keep the encoder output matched to it. |
If the warning also mentions bitrate
Resolution and bitrate are related but separate checks. Compare the configured bitrate with YouTube’s recommendation for the codec, resolution, and frame rate actually in use. The following are YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrates—not guarantees of a stable feed. The help page did not display a publication date and was accessed October 3, 2026. See YouTube’s full encoder recommendations for the applicable row and other configurations.

| H.264 configuration | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 240p–720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
Choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain. If available bandwidth is insufficient, YouTube’s error guidance suggests considering a lower selected resolution. Test the upload and the complete feed before going public rather than treating a recommended bitrate as proof that the connection is stable.
Encoder settings worth checking
YouTube’s current help page lists RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video, up to 60 fps, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate (CBR) encoding. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. The specific error message for your stream may give a more specific requirement. Check YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate table against the codec, dimensions, and frame rate you send.

- Bitrate mode: Use CBR and choose a rate suitable for the actual codec, resolution, frame rate, and connection.
Keep the 24/7 bhajan archive in mind
Fixing the health warning does not ensure YouTube will archive the entire continuous broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and recommends keeping a local archive as backup; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a 24/7 channel, plan local recording and archive management if you need a complete copy. The 12-hour guidance is from YouTube Help, which did not display a publication date and was accessed October 3, 2026. YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance explains the limitation.
