If the event ends at each switch and the service log shows an output stop/start at the same time, investigate that service’s session or transition behavior before changing your stream key or network.
First determine what “restarts” means
A visible interruption can mean different things: YouTube may have ended the live event, the same event may have remained active while its feed went blank, or playback may have glitched for some viewers. The timing alone does not prove which one happened.

- Write down the exact time of a video transition.
- Open the watch page and YouTube Live Control Room. Check whether the event URL and status stayed the same, whether YouTube says the stream ended, and whether a new event appeared in the Live tab.
- Check whether viewers on different devices or connections saw the same interruption. A problem reported by only one viewer may be local to that viewer or their network.
- Compare the timestamp with the switching service’s activity log and the encoder’s status or error view. If available, inspect a local recording around the transition.
This comparison helps separate an event lifecycle issue from a feed, encoder, or viewer playback issue. The event interface may not expose every detail of the incoming feed, so use the service and encoder logs as well.

Look in the service’s settings and documentation for how it handles a video transition. The key question is whether it changes media inside one continuously running encoder output or stops and starts—or recreates—the encoder session each time it switches videos.

- If the service log records a stop/start at the same time a new YouTube event appears, contact that service’s support. Ask whether it can switch videos while keeping the outgoing YouTube session active, and whether it has a continuous-play or transition mode.
- If the same YouTube event remains live but the picture drops, check the service’s transition and source-routing behavior, then inspect encoder health and the outbound connection.
The service and encoder are not identified here, so there is no vendor-specific setting that can be named as the fix. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe connecting an encoder to YouTube; they do not specify how an unnamed third-party service implements playlist transitions.
Verify the YouTube destination and stream key only when relevant
YouTube tells creators to connect an encoder using the YouTube Live server URL and stream key. Its settings guide says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” A custom stream key can be reused; if you reset a key, copy the replacement into the encoder. Treat the key as a credential and never send it in a support ticket or publish it.

Check that the configured URL and key match the intended event or reusable custom key if the encoder fails to start or YouTube reports an ingest or key issue. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance suggests copying the key from Live Control Room for a third-party encoder startup error. A video transition by itself is not a reason to reset a working key.

If the same event stays up, inspect the feed and connection
- Review the encoder dashboard for errors, disconnects, or source changes at the transition time.
- Check CPU load and source routing. If you use a local archive or recording, see whether it also has a gap.
- Update the encoder and test outbound connection stability.
- Use network remedies only when diagnostics point to instability. OBS says dropped frames may indicate an unstable route or a bitrate above what the connection can sustain, and notes that Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. A wired Ethernet connection is a reasonable test when the encoder uses Wi-Fi or connection diagnostics show instability.
A wired connection will not fix a service that intentionally stops its output or creates a new YouTube event at each switch. Lowering bitrate is relevant only if connection capacity or dropped-frame diagnostics support that diagnosis.

Use the evidence to choose the next step
| What you observe | Where to investigate | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| A new YouTube event appears at each switch, and the service log shows an output stop/start | The switching service’s session lifecycle | Ask the provider how to switch media without stopping the YouTube encoder session; check for a continuous-play or transition mode. |
| The same event remains, but the feed or preview drops at the transition | The media pipeline, source handoff, encoder, or network | Inspect transition settings, encoder errors, CPU load, local recording, and outbound connection. |
| The encoder fails to start or YouTube reports an ingest or key issue | Destination or key configuration | Verify the URL and key, and follow YouTube’s key update or reset steps only when indicated. |
| OBS reports dropped frames or disconnection, especially over Wi-Fi | Network stability or bitrate | Test upload stability, consider Ethernet, and lower bitrate only if connection capacity warrants it. |
| One viewer reports trouble but others do not | That viewer’s device or network | Check from another device or connection before changing broadcast settings. |
| Viewers on unrelated connections report errors | An encoder or incoming-feed issue is plausible | Inspect encoder diagnostics, source health, and connection stability. |
Understand what YouTube’s lifecycle guidance does—and does not—say
YouTube’s encoder setup guide says to end a stream by stopping the content sent from the encoder. Its guidance also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That makes the service’s output behavior and the event/archive history useful clues when a stream stops at a video transition.
These instructions do not establish that every brief feed gap ends an event, or that a reusable stream key alone keeps one watch-page event alive through arbitrary service restarts. Check the specific service’s behavior rather than assuming either outcome.

Escalate with a useful support report
Send the switching service the affected event URL, transition timestamps, a screenshot or export showing the event status, the service activity log, and the encoder’s log or error view. State whether the same YouTube event survived the switch. Never include the secret stream key.

If the incoming feed appears healthy but the service recreates the event, start with that service’s support. If the encoder or feed is unhealthy and multiple viewers report errors, follow YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting steps; if the evidence points to outbound connectivity, investigate the network path.
Or let it run in the cloud
For uploaded prerecorded videos, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home, and the service loops uploaded videos without relying on a home computer or connection. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream; that does not establish that it will prevent a particular third-party service’s transition behavior from ending an event.
Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card. The Monthly price is $9.99 per month.
