Most Xiaomi band connection problems are fixed in Mi Fitness, not by repeatedly tapping the phone’s Bluetooth menu. Open Mi Fitness and use Connect or Add device, keep the band close and charged, remove any stale Bluetooth record, then check background and battery permissions. If the band still will not pair or synchronize, verify the model-specific requirements before considering a factory reset.
Identify the failure before changing settings
The correct fix depends on whether the band is missing from the scan, refuses a pairing request, disconnects after working, or connects while its health records remain outdated. Xiaomi’s support instructions differ by model, phone platform and pairing history, so start with the symptom that matches what you see.

| What you see | Likely condition | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| The band does not appear in Mi Fitness | Bluetooth is off, an old pairing record is blocking discovery, the band is bound to another phone, or it is not on its pairing screen | Restart Mi Fitness, toggle Bluetooth, remove the saved band entry and scan again in Mi Fitness |
| The band appears but pairing fails | Another phone is trying to claim it, the app region does not match the purchase region, or the band needs to be restored to its pairing state | Turn off Bluetooth on the old phone, reject prompts on nearby phones, check the Mi Fitness region and retry |
| It was paired before but will not reconnect | A stale system record, battery saver or a stopped background app is interrupting reconnection | Use Mi Fitness Connect, remove the old Bluetooth relationship if necessary, then restart the phone and band |
| It connects, but new records do not arrive | Mi Fitness lacks Bluetooth, storage or background permissions, or the app version does not meet the model’s requirements | Review permissions and app-version requirements for the exact band before resetting anything |
| It disconnects repeatedly | Phone power management is closing Mi Fitness, or the phone is cleaning the app from memory | Allow background activity, disable the relevant battery restrictions and keep the phone within normal Bluetooth range |
Prepare the phone and band
Do these checks before deleting anything. They prevent a simple power or distance issue from becoming a needless reset.
Recommended Free Tools
- Charge the band and phone sufficiently for a pairing attempt. Battery-saving modes on either device can disable Bluetooth or interrupt reconnection.
- Keep the band next to the phone during discovery and binding. Move away from other phones that may already be associated with it.
- Confirm that Mi Fitness is installed and signed in to the account that should own the band.
- Turn on Bluetooth. If binding requires an internet connection for your model, connect the phone to a reliable network as well.
- Do not begin by pairing from the system Bluetooth page. Xiaomi’s normal workflow starts in Mi Fitness; the system list is mainly used to inspect or remove stale records.
Reconnect a band that was already paired
- Open Mi Fitness and choose Connect. If the app shows the band as disconnected, start its reconnect action rather than selecting an unrelated device type.
- Check Bluetooth on the phone. Turn it off, wait a few seconds, turn it on again, and return to Mi Fitness. This refreshes the scan without creating a second pairing path.
- Inspect the system Bluetooth list. If the band is shown as connected there while Mi Fitness cannot use it, open the entry and choose the model-appropriate action such as Unpair, Forget or Ignore. Xiaomi uses different labels on different phones and models.
- Return to Mi Fitness and scan again. Select the band when it appears and approve the matching code or on-band confirmation.
- Restart both devices if the connection does not return. After a phone restart or an out-of-range event, Xiaomi’s Smart Band 9 guidance specifically recommends reopening Mi Fitness before trying the connection again.
- Check battery saver. Disable a phone or band power mode that limits Bluetooth or background operation, then repeat the Connect flow.
Removing a Bluetooth record does not itself complete pairing. The band should be added again from Mi Fitness so the app can create the account binding and synchronization relationship.

When Mi Fitness cannot find the band
Refresh discovery
- Close and reopen Mi Fitness.
- Toggle the phone’s Bluetooth off and on.
- Place the band on its pairing or QR-code screen, if the model provides one.
- In the phone’s Bluetooth settings, delete saved entries for the band or its old name.
- Open Mi Fitness, choose the add-device or scan option, and wait for the band to appear.
A band that has been reset on only one side can leave an old relationship in the phone. Clearing that saved entry and adding the device again in Mi Fitness resolves this particular discovery loop on some Smart Band 8 setups.
Check other phones and accounts
Turn Bluetooth off on a phone that previously used the band. A nearby phone may display a connection prompt; reject it so it does not claim the device while your current phone is scanning. Smart Band 10 support also calls out cases in which several phones use one Xiaomi account. Temporarily keep the band near only the phone you intend to bind.
Verify region and network conditions
Mi Fitness should use the region that matches where the device was purchased. A region mismatch can prevent binding even when Bluetooth discovery works. For models that require online binding, keep the phone connected to the internet while adding the band.

Check Xiaomi and REDMI Bluetooth restrictions
On Xiaomi or REDMI phones, inspect Bluetooth blocked-device or blacklist settings. Xiaomi identifies a blacklisted band as a condition that can prevent pairing and binding; remove the band from that list before scanning again.
Stop repeated disconnections
A band can be correctly paired yet lose its working link whenever the operating system closes Mi Fitness. The remedy is to allow the app to remain active, not to pair the band repeatedly.
Android
- Open the app-info page for Mi Fitness and allow background activity where the phone provides that control.
- In Battery or App battery settings, set Mi Fitness to a mode that is not restricted or aggressively optimized.
- Enable the phone maker’s auto-start permission if one exists.
- Exclude Mi Fitness from memory-cleaner, background-cleanup or “sleeping apps” lists.
- Check notification and nearby-device permissions if the phone uses them to maintain the connection.
Menu names vary by Android manufacturer and software version. Xiaomi’s Smart Band 8 guidance warns that background cleanup can remove Mi Fitness and interrupt reconnection; Smart Band 10 guidance likewise emphasizes background permission and avoiding battery saver when it stops the app from running.

iPhone
- Allow Mi Fitness to use Bluetooth in the iPhone’s privacy settings.
- Permit background app refresh for Mi Fitness where available.
- Avoid force-closing the app immediately after a sync; swiping it away can prevent background work.
- Turn off Low Power Mode temporarily if it is stopping background activity, then test a normal sync.
iOS may clean up background activity after the app has been closed or unused. If reconnection fails after that cleanup, open Mi Fitness manually and use Connect.

Keep the phone and band close while testing. Do not test with the band in another room or while several previously paired phones are nearby. Once a stable connection is established, normal Bluetooth range can be evaluated; distance should not be the first variable changed during setup.
Fix a connection that works but will not sync
- Confirm the live connection. Open Mi Fitness and check that the band is shown as connected, not merely listed in the phone’s Bluetooth menu.
- Pull to refresh or start a manual sync. Keep the app open and the band nearby until the transfer completes.
- Review permissions. Xiaomi’s Smart Band 9 Pro instructions identify Bluetooth, storage and background activity as settings that can affect synchronization. Grant the permissions the phone and exact model request.
- Remove battery restrictions. A sync can stop when the app is suspended even though the system still reports a Bluetooth relationship.
- Check the Mi Fitness version requirement for your model. Smart Band 9 Pro support specifies version thresholds for handling future records. Those thresholds are model-specific and should not be applied to every Xiaomi tracker.
- Retry after reopening the app. If the phone was restarted, Mi Fitness may need to be opened once before background synchronization resumes.
Do not assume that a successful Bluetooth connection means every stored measurement has transferred. The app’s permissions and version determine whether it can read, process and save the band’s records.

Model and platform differences you should not ignore
| Model or situation | Documented concern | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Band 8 | Android background permissions, iOS cleanup and stale pairing after a one-sided reset | Protect Mi Fitness from background cleanup and remove old pairing data before adding the band again |
| Smart Band 9 Pro | Sync permissions and model-specific Mi Fitness version thresholds | Check Bluetooth, storage and background access, then verify the current requirement for this model |
| Smart Band 10 | Multiple phones on one account, nearby phones, region, network during binding and Xiaomi/REDMI Bluetooth blacklists | Use one target phone, match the purchase region, stay online during binding and clear any blacklist entry |
| Any model previously bound elsewhere | The old phone or account may still hold the active relationship | Disable Bluetooth on the old phone, remove stale records and follow the model’s unbind or reset procedure |
These are examples from Xiaomi’s model-specific instructions, not a universal menu map. A setting called “Ignore” on one phone may be called “Forget” or “Unpair” on another, and a requirement documented for one band may not apply to a different generation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use a factory reset only after the simpler fixes
A reset clears device data and pairing state. It can solve a corrupted relationship, but it also removes information that has not reached Mi Fitness. Treat it as a last troubleshooting step, especially when the band still contains unsynced workouts, sleep records or measurements.
- Attempt a manual sync while the band is still connected.
- Record the account and region currently used in Mi Fitness.
- Remove the stale phone-side Bluetooth record if Xiaomi’s instructions for your model call for it.
- Use the band’s own Settings or on-screen reset command, following the exact prompts for that model.
- After the reset, leave the band on its pairing or QR-code screen.
- Open Mi Fitness, choose Add device, scan again and complete the on-band confirmation.
Do not use a generic reset sequence copied from another Xiaomi band. The location of the reset command and the post-reset pairing behavior vary by model and operating system. Xiaomi describes resetting as a way to clear device data; unsynced data may not be recoverable afterward.

A practical decision path
| Symptom after the first attempt | Next action | Stop and reassess when |
|---|---|---|
| Band appears after Bluetooth refresh | Complete pairing in Mi Fitness and perform a manual sync | Do not keep deleting records once the app is connected |
| Band remains absent | Check pairing screen, old phones, region, network and blacklist status | Use the exact model’s reset guidance only after those checks |
| Pairing succeeds but drops later | Fix Android or iOS background and battery permissions | Test again with the app open before changing pairing data |
| Connection is stable but records are missing | Grant sync permissions and verify the model’s Mi Fitness version requirement | Back up or sync what is available before considering a reset |
| Reset still cannot produce a pairing | Repeat the model-specific add-device flow with other phones’ Bluetooth disabled | Contact Xiaomi support for the exact model, phone and software versions |
Prevent the problem from returning
- Leave Mi Fitness permitted to run in the background.
- Do not place the app in an automatic cleanup or deep-sleep list.
- Keep Bluetooth enabled when you expect automatic synchronization.
- Open Mi Fitness after restarting the phone or returning from a long out-of-range period.
- When changing phones, unbind or remove the band from the old phone before starting setup on the new one.
- Keep the app updated according to the requirement for your specific band rather than assuming one version applies to all models.
- Use the correct account and purchase-region setting, particularly when the band was imported or bought while traveling.
When the issue is probably hardware
Software troubleshooting is appropriate when the band powers on, shows a pairing screen and can be discovered intermittently. Escalate to Xiaomi support when the band will not power on after charging, the touchscreen cannot reach its pairing or reset controls, or the device remains undiscoverable after the old records, nearby phones, region, permissions, background limits and model-specific reset flow have all been checked. Provide the support agent with the exact band model, phone model, operating-system version, Mi Fitness version, account region and the last step that failed. That information distinguishes a Bluetooth configuration problem from a damaged band or charging fault.
The Bottom Line
Start and finish pairing in Mi Fitness: refresh Bluetooth, remove stale records, prevent the app from being stopped in the background, and check model-specific permissions and requirements. Reserve a factory reset for the end because it erases device data and may permanently remove records that never synced.
