First identify the activity where it fails, then repair role coverage, elemental alignment, skill combinations, equipment, gems and positioning in that order. Keep the Immortals that already have meaningful levels, upgrades or artifacts, and replace only the slot that still prevents the lineup from doing its job.
Start by defining what “weak” means
A march can look fine in one activity and fail in another. Before changing an Immortal, record the exact problem and where it occurs:

- Player-versus-player: you may be losing to burst damage, control, poor targeting or an enemy formation that counters your element.
- Gnomes and bosses: sustained damage, survivability and the ability to keep attacking can matter more than a short opening burst.
- Well of Time or Mysterium: stage rules, enemy composition and progression requirements can favor a different balance of damage, control and healing.
- Other progression content: a lineup built for one objective is not automatically the best answer for another.
The 2024 official forum beginner guide presents different combinations for different activities. Treat those examples as evidence that the game rewards context, not as a single universal tier list. Run your current march in the same activity before and after each adjustment so that you are comparing like with like.

The official composition guide defines synergy as the interaction between Immortals, elements, Exclusive Artifacts and skills that makes the team stronger than the sum of its parts. Rarity or individual power cannot compensate for a lineup that has no frontline protection, incompatible effects or badly assigned resources.

A standard march contains four Immortals and a Dragon. That gives you four jobs to distribute while the Dragon contributes to the elemental plan and the march’s overall effects. A high-level damage dealer surrounded by three units performing the same job can be weaker in practice than a slightly less powerful attacker supported by a tank, healer and control effect.
Audit the jobs before the names

You do not have to use one Immortal from every category. Some marches use two damage dealers, while others rely on control or exceptional durability instead of a dedicated healer. The test is whether the jobs required by the activity are covered. A march that dies before its damage dealers act needs protection; one that survives but cannot finish a target needs more damage or better timing.
Repair elemental alignment without deleting your roster
The official lineup guide explains that same-element bonuses stack across the four Immortals and the Dragon. A coherent element is therefore a useful planning target when your available roster supports it. It is not a command to discard every off-element Immortal immediately.

Look for the smallest change that creates a stronger core: perhaps one compatible Immortal can replace a redundant support, or the Dragon can be changed while the developed Immortals remain. Compare the resources already invested in each candidate with the value of the bonus you would gain.
Use a compatibility test
- Write down the current four-Immortal element mix and Dragon element.
- Identify the element you can support with the most developed or obtainable Immortals.
- Keep the strongest role coverage inside that potential core. Do not trade away your only tank or healer merely to make the colors match.
- Test the coherent version in the same activity and formation. Record survival, failed targets and the point at which the march collapses.
- If the improvement requires several expensive replacements, keep the current mixed team and repair its skills and equipment first.
The detailed elemental acquisition advice in the 2021 guide is historical. Use its composition principles, but verify current availability, event routes and balance in your live game client. Server, season and account progression can change which Immortals and Dragons are practical.

Match Tower of Knowledge skills to ultimate skills
Skills are not interchangeable decorations. The official composition guide recommends combining Tower of Knowledge skills with each Immortal’s ultimate skill so that effects reinforce one another. Review every skill in terms of the job you expect that Immortal to perform.
Questions for each slot
- Damage slot: Do the skills increase the damage type, target selection or uptime of the Immortal’s ultimate? A defensive effect may be correct if the attacker dies before casting, but avoid unrelated bonuses that never affect its attack pattern.
- Tank slot: Do the skills reduce incoming pressure, improve resilience or create time for the backline? A tank’s value is measured by the damage it prevents from reaching the rest of the march, not by its personal attack number.
- Support slot: Do buffs, control, energy or debuffs arrive when your damage dealers need them? Two effects that do the same thing can waste a slot.
- Healer slot: Does the setup let the healer cast reliably and keep the units that matter alive? Energy regeneration or defense can be more useful than a generic offensive skill.
Change one skill at a time. If you replace an ultimate-supporting effect and an equipment set simultaneously, you will not know which change caused the result. Save the original assignment in a note or screenshot before testing alternatives.
Reassign equipment and gems by role
Equipment and stone-inlaid gems are part of the composition, not a final cosmetic layer. The official guide’s role-based recommendations are a practical audit:

| Healer | Healing effectiveness, energy regeneration and enough defense to keep casting. | Leaving the healer exposed because all durable gear was assigned to the nominal tank. |
Inspect gear after every formation change. A piece that was correct on a damage dealer can be wasted on a support unit, and a tank moved to the backline may no longer be receiving the protection its build assumes. Treat these recommendations as a checklist rather than a claim that one best-in-slot build exists for every server or patch.
Fix positioning before replacing anyone
Put tanks and high-defense Immortals in front and protect fragile damage or support units in the backline, subject to the game’s troop and targeting rules. A strong Immortal in the wrong row can be functionally weak if it receives attacks intended for a tank or cannot reach its preferred targets.

After changing positions, check the first few combat actions rather than only the final victory screen. If your healer is being hit immediately, move it behind the most durable unit. If a damage dealer survives but never attacks the intended target, examine targeting and control interactions before buying or summoning a replacement.

Use presets, but remember what they do not save
Team presets can store Immortal, skill and artifact assignments, which makes it easier to keep a PvP formation separate from a boss or progression formation. The official forum guidance states that equipment is not saved with presets and must be reassigned manually.
- Create a named preset for the activity you are testing.
- Save the four Immortals, their skills and Exclusive Artifacts.
- Write down or photograph the equipment and gem assignments for that preset.
- When switching activities, manually verify every equipment slot before starting the fight.
- Keep one untouched baseline preset so that you can return to the original build.
This prevents a common false diagnosis: believing a new lineup failed when the Immortals switched but the old activity’s equipment remained attached to them.
A low-waste repair sequence
Make changes in an order that isolates causes and protects your investment. The following sequence is designed for an established account with a mixed or underperforming march.
- Choose one activity and a baseline. Record the stage, opponent or boss, formation, Dragon and approximate result. Do not compare a PvP loss with a boss attempt and call it one test.
- Check role coverage. Identify your damage source, frontline protection and any support or healing needed to survive the activity. Mark overlapping jobs and missing jobs.
- Correct formation. Put the tank and high-defense units forward; move fragile damage and support units back. Test again before touching the roster.
- Audit skills. Pair Tower of Knowledge skills with the relevant ultimate skills. Remove effects that do not support damage, control or survival for this activity.
- Audit equipment and gems. Move offensive pieces to the damage dealer, defensive pieces to the tank and healing, energy or defense pieces to support and healer roles.
- Review element and Dragon. If a coherent element is available without destroying role coverage, test that core. If it requires several expensive replacements, postpone the transition.
- Change one variable. Use the same activity and formation for the next comparison. Keep notes on survival time, failed targets and whether the march reaches its ultimate cycle.
- Replace one Immortal only if the remaining defect is structural. Choose the slot that still lacks a required job or breaks the elemental and skill plan. Preserve developed units that continue to perform a useful role.
This is a troubleshooting method, not a reported controlled experiment. It follows from the number of interacting factors in the official guides; changing them together makes the result impossible to interpret.

When a replacement is actually justified
Replacement makes sense when a candidate improves the lineup you are using now, not merely because its individual rarity or ranking is higher. Compare candidates on the following axes:

| Role coverage | Does it add missing damage, frontline protection, support, healing or control without creating a new gap? |
| Element and Dragon fit | Does it strengthen a realistic same-element core with the Immortals and Dragon you can field? |
| Existing investment | How much value would be lost from levels, upgrades, skills, equipment, gems and artifacts already assigned? |
| Acquisition and upgrade cost | Can you obtain and develop enough copies or resources now, rather than relying on an uncertain future event? |
| Meta durability | Will the change remain useful if a patch alters rankings, or is it only following a temporary tier-list position? |
A replacement is usually a poor trade when it adds a small theoretical gain but forces you to abandon a highly developed Immortal, breaks your element bonus or leaves the march without a tank or healer. It is more defensible when the current unit has no useful job in the intended activity and the candidate repairs both role coverage and the broader synergy plan.
Examples of gradual transitions
The 2024 official forum beginner guide illustrates incremental progression rather than an all-at-once rebuild. For an early Earth-oriented team, it discusses combinations including Alexander or Attila, Brynhild, Merlin and Zenobia, then mentions unlocking Hippolyta and Yoshitsune for particular activities and possible later replacements. Those names are examples from a forum contributor, not universal prescriptions. Their usefulness depends on server, season, account progression and the current game version.
The same guide also describes transition paths for Water, Fire and Lightning teams. The transferable lesson is to establish a usable core, unlock a candidate for a specific activity, and move one slot when the candidate is sufficiently developed. Do not spend simply to copy an example whose element, role distribution or acquisition route does not match your account.

How to apply an example safely
- Identify the job the example Immortal performs in the cited lineup.
- Find the equivalent job in your current march and confirm that removing it will not create a gap.
- Check whether the candidate has the skills, gear, gems and artifact support required to perform immediately.
- Test the candidate in the activity for which it was proposed, not just in a different stage where its strengths may not matter.
- Keep the old Immortal available until the new one demonstrates that it can replace the job at your current progression level.
Mode-specific tuning without rebuilding the account
Player-versus-player
Start with the opening exchange: which unit is targeted, which ultimate fires first and whether your backline survives long enough to respond. Positioning, control and burst timing may justify a different support or skill assignment than your boss formation. Keep a separate preset and do not assume a PvP ranking reflects your server’s current balance.
Gnomes and bosses
Prioritize sustained damage and the ability to remain active through the encounter. A healer or defensive support can be worth more than a second burst attacker if deaths interrupt the damage cycle. Check whether equipment is still assigned to the correct role after switching from PvP.
Well of Time and Mysterium
Use the stage’s enemy pattern and restrictions to decide whether control, healing, elemental alignment or raw damage is the limiting factor. The beginner guide’s activity-specific examples are a reminder that progression content can reward a different combination from your main march.
Common failure modes and fixes
- “My power number is high, but I still lose.” Audit roles, target selection and positioning. A displayed power value does not show whether the march can protect its damage dealer or activate complementary skills.
- “I made the team one element and it became worse.” The elemental bonus may not offset the loss of a tank, healer or developed skill package. Restore role coverage, then pursue alignment gradually.
- “The new Immortal looks stronger but performs worse.” Check development level, copies, skills, equipment, gems and artifact support. A partially developed candidate cannot be judged against a fully built incumbent by name alone.
- “The preset works in one activity and fails in another.” Verify equipment manually; forum guidance says presets do not save equipment assignments.
- “I changed everything and learned nothing.” Return to the baseline preset and alter one factor at a time in the same activity.
- “An old guide tells me to buy or unlock a specific unit.” Treat historical acquisition and spending details as dated. Confirm current routes and balance in the game client before committing resources.
How to keep the team improving
Focus investment on the core that already performs a useful job. Upgrade the skills, equipment and gems that remove the current bottleneck before spreading resources across every available Immortal. Keep notes on which activity each preset serves, which unit receives frontline pressure and which skill cycle determines the result.

Meta rankings can change with patches. A 2026 independent guide correctly warns players to check current tier information, but its suggestions are secondary to live game information and authoritative updates. No source establishes a universal strongest lineup, win rate or damage increase, so do not treat a tier list as an account-specific diagnosis.
The official beginner guide’s conclusion is a useful principle: “There is always room for experiment and breaking meta marches with flexible immortals able to go in and out of marches.” In practice, flexibility means preserving developed units, testing a candidate in the job and activity where it is needed, and replacing only the slot that still limits the whole system.
