A TV mount that suddenly sags, tilts, wobbles, or pulls away from the wall is a load-path warning, not merely a leveling annoyance. Stop extending or swiveling a full-motion arm, keep people away from the screen, and plan a two-person removal if the wall plate or fasteners are moving. Minor droop at the end of an extended arm can be normal on some models, but progressive movement, cracked hardware, stripped fasteners, or damaged drywall requires structural inspection before the TV is rehung.
The safe repair is to identify whether the failure is at the TV brackets, an articulation joint, the wall plate, the fasteners, or the wall itself; remove the television when the structural path is uncertain; replace incompatible or damaged hardware; and reinstall the plate into suitable studs or properly engineered solid-concrete anchors. Tightening one visible screw while the TV remains loaded can conceal a serious failure.

Stop and make the installation safe
A sudden change in position means the mount is carrying load differently than intended. Do not keep testing the arm, swiveling the television, or pushing the screen back into place. Disconnect cables only if they can be removed without moving the television or putting your hands behind an unstable set.
- Keep children, pets, and other people clear of the TV and the area below it.
- If the plate is moving, the wall is bulging, or fasteners are pulling out, do not attempt an adjustment with the TV still attached.
- Use two adults for removal and rehanging. A large screen can twist or fall even when one person can technically lift its weight.
- Use the mount manufacturer’s release straps or latches. Do not yank the television or apply excessive force, which can break release latches.
One manufacturer’s safety guidance states that an incorrectly mounted TV may slide or fall, causing serious injury and damage. Treat that warning as applicable to any wall mount whose load path is uncertain.

Determine what is actually moving
Stand at the side of the television and observe the relationship between the screen, the mounting brackets, the arm joints, the wall plate, and the wall. Have a second person support the TV without pulling it away while you identify the first point that moves. Do not use this observation as a reason to keep loading a visibly loose mount.
| Symptom | Likely area to inspect | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Screen pitches forward while the plate stays flat | Tilt hinge, tension bolts, or post-install leveling hardware | A joint may need the small adjustment specified by the manual, or a hinge may be worn or damaged. |
| Both the screen and plate move together | Wall plate, lag bolts, anchors, studs, or the wall surface | This is structural movement. Remove the TV before repair. |
| One side of the screen hangs lower | Uneven bracket engagement, leveling screws, or a bent rail | Confirm that both mounting hooks are fully seated and locked before leveling. |
| Lag bolt spins, will not tighten, or pulls outward | Stripped fastener, missed stud, damaged anchor, or crushed wall material | Do not rely on a larger washer or another turn of the same bolt; replace the failed hardware and repair the substrate. |
| Drywall cracks, bulges, or crumbles around the plate | Wall capacity or fastener location | The wall is no longer providing a reliable load path. Stop using the mount until the wall is repaired. |
| Arm droops only when fully extended | Normal gravity-related flex on some full-motion designs | Up to 5 degrees of droop is described as normal for some extended-arm mounts, provided the TV remains within the rated load and the movement is not progressive. |
When a little arm droop can be normal
One For All states that drooping of up to 5 degrees is normal for a wall mount with extended arms because of gravity. It suggests tilting the TV slightly backward to compensate. This is a model-specific operating note, not a universal safety limit. It applies only when the mount is within its supported weight range, the wall plate is immobile, hardware is intact, and the angle has not been getting worse.
Do not classify progressive sag, a shifting plate, cracking, stripped threads, or drywall damage as normal droop. A screen that slowly moves farther from level has a different problem from the small elastic deflection that appears only when an arm is extended.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCan you tighten a mount without taking the TV down?
Only limited adjustments are appropriate with the TV mounted. If the wall plate is rigid, the brackets are fully engaged, and the manual identifies accessible tilt-tension or leveling screws, a second person can support the screen while you make a small, even adjustment. Stop immediately if the TV shifts at the plate, a bolt turns without resistance, metal cracks, or the screen must be pulled to reach the fastener.
Wall-plate lag bolts, anchors, stud locations, bent brackets, and damaged joints require unloading the mount. Removing the TV first lets you inspect every fastener and prevents the screen’s weight from masking stripped threads. Never try to cure a moving plate by tightening only the easiest screw to reach.

Safe removal and inspection procedure
Use this sequence when the plate or wall is moving, when the cause is not obvious, or when any hardware is damaged.
- Record the installation. Photograph the front, side, and underside of the mount. Write down the TV model, mount model, wall type, stud spacing, and any VESA dimensions shown in the manuals. These details prevent an incompatible replacement from being installed.
- Prepare two-person handling. Clear a padded, stable surface near the wall. Gather the correct hand tools, a level, a stud finder suitable for the wall, and replacement fasteners specified by the mount and television manuals. Do not improvise a lifting point from cables or the arm.
- Release the TV using the designed mechanism. One person supports the screen while the other operates the release straps, levers, or latches. Lift straight up or follow the manual’s stated direction. Excessive force can break the latch and leave the television hanging from one side.
- Inspect the TV-to-bracket connection. Check every screw in the television’s threaded inserts. Confirm that each screw has the specified diameter and length and that spacers are installed where the back of the TV is recessed. A screw that is too short may not engage enough threads; one that is too long can damage internal components.
- Inspect the brackets and joints. Look for bent rails, cracked welds, elongated holes, missing washers, loose pivot hardware, and uneven wear. Replace a bracket or joint that is distorted; do not straighten structural metal by hand and reuse it.
- Inspect the wall plate and fasteners. Remove the plate if necessary and check every lag bolt, washer, anchor, and hole. A spinning bolt, stripped thread, pulled washer, or ovalized hole is evidence that the connection has failed. Examine the drywall or masonry for cracks, crushing, or moisture damage.
- Verify the substrate. For wood construction, confirm that each specified lag bolt is centered in sound stud material, not merely in drywall. For solid concrete, use the exact anchor type, diameter, embedment, and spacing required by the mount manual. Do not install a mount designed for structural attachment into drywall alone.
- Replace questionable parts. Use new, correctly sized fasteners and anchors when threads, heads, coatings, or bearing surfaces are damaged. Replace a mount that cannot meet the TV’s VESA pattern, screw requirements, weight rating, or wall compatibility.
- Reinstall the empty plate. Position it level and centered over suitable studs or engineered concrete anchors. Use the specified lag bolts and washers and tighten them with hand tools as directed. One MOUNTUP installation manual specifically says not to use an electrodrill for its lag bolts; follow your own manual’s torque and tool instructions instead of substituting power.
- Perform the integrity test. Before hanging the TV, carry out the manual’s wall-plate test. The MU0008 instructions require checking installation integrity before the television is rehung. If the plate shifts, creaks, or pulls from the wall, stop and correct the substrate or fasteners.
- Rehang and lock the TV. With two people, engage both sides of the bracket, close every safety latch, and verify that the screen cannot lift free. Keep hands clear of pinch points.
- Set tilt and level evenly. Adjust tilt-tension bolts and leveling screws in small, balanced increments. Confirm that the wall plate remains stationary while the screen is moved through its permitted range.
Check the wall type and load path
Wood-stud walls
The plate must bear on sound structural studs. Locate the center of each stud and verify the spacing against the plate’s hole pattern. A pilot hole that enters only drywall, a thin furring strip, or the edge of a stud does not provide the same capacity as a centered structural connection. If the stud spacing does not match the plate, use a mounting solution specifically engineered for that layout rather than offsetting bolts arbitrarily.

Use anchors approved for solid concrete and install them at the diameter, depth, edge distance, and spacing stated by the mount manual. Clean drilled holes as instructed and discard an anchor that spins or fails to expand. Hollow block, brick veneer, plaster, and lightweight partition walls require different anchors and may not be suitable for a given mount.
Drywall and hollow walls
Do not assume a row of drywall anchors can substitute for structural attachment. The MU0008 manual says, "DO NOT install into drywall alone." Another manufacturer manual states that the wall must support five times the combined weight of the television and mount; this is an installation specification, not an independent safety test. If you cannot establish the wall’s capacity and the correct anchor system, stop and obtain an assessment from a qualified installer or wall-repair professional.
Verify the television and mount match
VESA is the standardized horizontal and vertical distance between the TV’s mounting holes. Match the television’s VESA pattern to the mount’s supported range, then confirm screw diameter, screw length, spacer requirements, and maximum load. The TV’s model-specific manual is the authority for bolt size and spacing; the mount manual is the authority for its allowable patterns and hardware.

| Compatibility check | What to confirm | Failure if ignored |
|---|---|---|
| VESA pattern | Horizontal and vertical hole spacing in millimeters | Brackets may not align or may engage unevenly. |
| Screw specification | Diameter, thread pitch, length, washers, and spacers | Insufficient thread engagement or internal TV damage. |
| Weight rating | TV weight including accessories compared with the mount’s stated limit | Excessive deflection, joint failure, or wall overload. |
| Wall and stud spacing | Suitable substrate and hole positions that land in structural material | Plate pull-out or crushed wall material. |
| Movement range | Extension depth, swivel angle, tilt range, and cable clearance | Cable strain, collision with the wall, or leverage that exceeds the design. |
As an example of how specifications are presented, the MOUNTUP MU0008 manual lists a maximum load of 110 pounds (50 kilograms) and a VESA range up to 600 × 400 millimeters. The fetched manual page does not state a publication year. Treat those figures as that model’s manufacturer specifications, not as a rating for every mount.

| Design | Best for | Trade-offs to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed | A centered viewing position with the least movement and shallowest profile | No angle adjustment; cable access can be harder after installation. |
| Tilting | Reducing glare or aiming a screen mounted above eye level | Limited horizontal adjustment; tilt hinges still need correct tension. |
| Full-motion | Corner installations, multiple seating positions, or frequent extension and swivel | Greater leverage on the wall, more joints to inspect, and possible gravity-related arm droop when extended. |
Compare the VESA range, supported weight, stud spacing, wall type, anchor system, extension depth, cable clearance, post-install leveling, tilt-tension adjustment, and ease of safe removal. A mount with a higher advertised weight rating is not automatically safer if its plate cannot land on your studs or its anchors are unsuitable for your wall.

Tightening one screw until the plate looks flat
Why it fails: A loose or missed stud, stripped thread, or crushed wall can remain hidden behind the plate.
Fix: Remove the TV, unload the plate, inspect every connection, and rebuild the load path with the specified hardware.
Reusing a bolt that feels tight
Why it fails: A bolt can feel tight because its threads are damaged or because it has bottomed out before clamping the bracket.

Fix: Replace questionable fasteners and verify length, washer placement, and thread engagement against the manuals.
Using a longer screw in the TV
Why it fails: Extra length can contact internal components, while a recessed back may require a spacer rather than a longer bolt.
Fix: Use the television manufacturer’s specified screw size and the mount’s approved spacers.
Adding drywall anchors to a mount designed for studs
Why it fails: The plate, arm leverage, and TV weight may exceed the anchor’s capacity, especially when the arm is extended.

Why it fails: Each extension increases leverage and can turn a small fastener problem into pull-out.
Fix: Keep the arm retracted until the plate, anchors, and joints have passed inspection and the TV is within its rated range.
Ignoring cable tension
Why it fails: A tight HDMI, power, or antenna cable can pull the screen, restrict articulation, or transmit force to the bracket.

When professional help is the safest option
Arrange a qualified TV-mounting or wall-repair service when any part of the load path is uncertain. Professional help is especially appropriate when:
- The wall is cracked, bulging, water-damaged, or crumbling.
- A stud cannot be located confidently or the plate does not align with suitable structural material.
- A lag bolt spins, strips, pulls out, or has damaged the hole.
- The mount, arm, bracket, weld, or hinge is bent or cracked.
- The television is too large or heavy for two-person handling.
- Electrical wiring, plumbing, or other services may be in the drilling path.
- The wall is masonry, hollow block, metal stud, plaster, or another construction not covered clearly by the mount manual.
- The replacement mount’s VESA, weight, or hardware requirements do not match the TV.
LG advises that wall mounting requires expertise in wall type and installation conditions and strongly recommends a professional technician to avoid damage. That is particularly relevant after a pull-away event, because the visible symptom may be smaller than the hidden wall or fastener damage.
Quick Recap
