First identify where detection fails: the wheel may not power on, the PS5 may not recognize it, or the console may recognize it while Gran Turismo 7 does not. Check the wheel’s model and PlayStation variant before changing its mode; Thrustmaster’s steps differ between models.
Start by identifying the model and symptom
Find the exact model name and variant on the wheel or its packaging. For example, Thrustmaster distinguishes the PlayStation/PC and Xbox versions of the T248; instructions for one variant may not apply to the other. Then note whether the base lights up and completes its startup calibration, whether the wheel’s PS button can sign you into the PS5, and whether the problem occurs only in GT7.

- Firmly seat the wheel’s power connection. For the T300, connect its power supply directly to a wall outlet; Thrustmaster advises against using a power strip or extension cord.
- Connect the wheel’s USB cable directly to a PS5 USB port. Do not use a USB hub or extension. Try another console USB port if needed.
- Reconnect the cables and check whether the base lights up and performs its startup calibration.
If the wheel now powers on and calibrates, move to the mode and sign-in steps below. If it remains completely without power, bootloader recovery may be relevant—but only for that no-power condition. Thrustmaster describes it as a Windows PC procedure for a wheel that will not power on and may have lost firmware, not as a general fix for a wheel that powers up but is missing from a game. Select PlayStation mode and sign in with the wheel
T300
- Set the base’s sliding switch to PS5-PS4.
- Allow the wheel to complete calibration.
- Enter the PlayStation session, then press the wheel’s PS button.
These steps follow Thrustmaster’s T300 detection guidance.
T248 (PS4/PS5/PC version)
- Press MODE.
- Use the directional pad to select PS4 or PS5.
- Press the wheel’s PS button to log in.
If the PS5 still does not recognize the T248, Thrustmaster also suggests turning the console off and back on using the console’s power button—not the controller’s—then logging in with the wheel’s PS button. Verify that your unit is the PS4/PS5/PC version before using these steps; the T248 Xbox variant is different. See the T248 FAQ.

T128 (PS4/PS5/PC version)
For PlayStation, Thrustmaster recommends the blue PlayStation standard compatibility mode. Check the mode indicator and select blue mode for PS4 or PS5. The correct controls vary by model, so do not apply the T300 switch or T248 button sequence to a T128. Consult the T128 detection article.
If the PS5 sees the wheel but GT7 does not
Console recognition and support in a particular game are separate questions. Check the official game-settings or compatibility listing for your exact wheel model and confirm that Gran Turismo 7 is included. Thrustmaster directs T300 and T248 owners to their model-specific game lists; its guidance does not establish GT7 compatibility for every Thrustmaster wheel. Do not treat a game-specific failure as proof of a bad cable or base before checking that listing.

Check firmware on a Windows PC when appropriate
Thrustmaster’s firmware-check instructions require a Windows PC running Windows 10/11 or newer for the Control Panel and firmware update process. A PS5 cannot display the wheel’s firmware information, and firmware is not updated through a PS5 menu. Thrustmaster says current firmware is needed for full function in compatible games and may resolve unusual behavior. Follow the procedure for your model in its firmware-check article.
The standard force-feedback process applies to the models listed by Thrustmaster. The T248R is specifically excluded from the legacy driver, Control Panel, and firmware updater; use the separate My Thrustmaster Panel instructions for that model. Do not assume the T248R shares the update procedure for other T248 variants.

When bootloader recovery or a replacement cable makes sense
Bootloader recovery is a model-dependent Windows PC process intended for a wheel that will not power on and may have lost firmware. Follow the official steps for your model and do not disconnect the wheel while firmware is loading. It is not the default next step if the base powers on, calibrates, or fails only in GT7.
A replacement USB cable is worth considering only if your exact model has a detachable cable and the current one appears suspect. Thrustmaster’s bootloader guidance suggests trying another cable if possible for detachable-cable models. Check the model, connector type, and whether its cable detaches before buying; the guidance does not support a universal cable or adapter recommendation.

If the problem remains
Record the exact model and variant, whether startup calibration completes, which mode or indicator is selected, whether the PS5 recognizes the wheel, and whether only GT7 fails. Contact Thrustmaster support with those details so troubleshooting can follow the correct model-specific procedure.
