If it cannot, restart your modem and router; if it can, troubleshoot the TCL TV by symptom: a missing network, a failed connection, “connected, no internet,” or a problem limited to one app. TCL menu paths differ between Google TV and Roku TV, so use the instructions for your platform.
Identify the problem before changing settings
Try a phone, tablet, or computer on the same Wi-Fi network and open a website or app. This quickly separates a TV problem from a home-network or internet-service problem.

- No devices can get online: Restart the modem and router. If the connection is still down after they reconnect, contact your internet service provider (ISP).
- Other devices work, but the TV does not: Check that the TV is selecting the correct network name (SSID) and re-enter the password carefully, including uppercase and lowercase letters.
- Only one TV app fails: Test another app. If it works, troubleshoot the affected app rather than resetting the Wi-Fi connection.
Check whether the TV runs Google TV or Roku TV before following menu directions. TCL notes that menu names can vary by model, remote, and software version. Its Google TV Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide and Roku TV connectivity guidance give platform-specific steps.
Restart the TV and network equipment
A restart is a sensible first fix for a temporary connection problem. Restart the modem and router, allow them to reconnect to the internet, then restart the TV and try Wi-Fi again. TCL’s Google TV instructions recommend unplugging the TV for 60 seconds before plugging it back in. On Roku TV, use the system restart option if it is available.

- Google TV: Try Settings > System > Restart. If you cannot use that option, unplug the TV for 60 seconds, then reconnect it.
- Roku TV: Try Settings > System > Power > System restart. On some versions, the path is Settings > System > System restart.
After restarting, run the TV’s network check to see whether it can reach the internet.
Reconnect to Wi-Fi if the TV sees the network but will not join
Make sure the TV is trying to join your network, not a nearby network with a similar name. Select the SSID used by your other devices and carefully re-enter its password.

Google TV: forget and rejoin the network
- Open Settings > Network & Internet.
- Select the saved network and choose Forget, if that option is available.
- Select the network again, enter its password, and reconnect.
- Run Settings > Network & Internet > Check internet connection, if shown.
Roku TV: set up or reset the connection
- To reconnect, open Home > Settings > Network > Set up connection > Wireless and select your Wi-Fi network.
- If a saved connection still causes trouble, open Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Network connection reset and choose Reset connection.
- Reconnect to Wi-Fi, then use Home > Settings > Network > Check connection to test it.
If the TV cannot see your Wi-Fi network
Rescan for networks and check whether another device can see the same SSID. Restart the TV and router, then temporarily move the TV or router closer together and reduce obstacles between them. These checks help distinguish a weak signal from a problem with the network itself.
A phone hotspot is a useful comparison. If the TV can see and join the hotspot but cannot see your home Wi-Fi, focus on the home router, network name, settings, or coverage. TCL similarly notes that a hotspot connection alongside a missing home network may point to the router, network name, or router settings. If the TV cannot see the hotspot either, continue with TV-side troubleshooting.

If the TV says “connected, no internet” or keeps dropping Wi-Fi
Being connected to the router does not necessarily mean the TV can reach the internet. Compare with other devices, restart the network equipment and TV, reconnect to Wi-Fi, then run the TV’s network check. Try a phone hotspot as another way to isolate the fault.
- Home Wi-Fi fails, hotspot works: Investigate the home router, its settings, signal, or internet service. If other home devices also cannot get online, contact your ISP after restarting the equipment.
- Both home Wi-Fi and hotspot fail: Continue with the TV’s network and software checks or contact TCL support.
- Connection is intermittent or streaming buffers: Improve router placement, reduce obstructions or competing network load, and try another Wi-Fi band if your router has separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network names. TCL describes 2.4 GHz as generally offering longer range and 5 GHz as often faster at shorter distances.
If the TV has an Ethernet port, a cable connection can provide a wired test or an alternative to Wi-Fi. Port availability varies by model; connect the cable to the router or modem and TV, then confirm that Ethernet shows as connected. TCL’s Google TV connection instructions cover this option.

Some hotel, dormitory, or apartment networks require a web sign-in page (captive portal), which may not work well on a TV. If that appears to be the obstacle, try a standard router, Ethernet if supported, or a hotspot for testing.
Check for an app-specific or software problem
If other apps work online, the Wi-Fi connection is probably not the immediate issue. Close and reopen the affected app, check for app or system updates, and reinstall the app if the TV allows it.

Save a factory reset for last
Try restarting, reconnecting or resetting the network connection, testing a hotspot, and checking for updates before a factory reset. A factory reset removes apps and settings; you may need to sign in to your accounts and set up Wi-Fi again. On Roku TV, try the network connection reset described above before choosing a full reset.
