Start by identifying the exact Sony INZONE model and its connection method: USB transceiver, Bluetooth, or wired cable. The correct fix differs between the H9 II, H9, H7, H5, H6 Air, H3, and INZONE Buds. Then work from the least destructive checks—power, connection, host output, and volume—to re-pairing and, only if necessary, initialization. Initialization erases saved Bluetooth pairings, so it should not be your first move.
First identify the model and connection route
Sony’s support procedures are model-specific. The general no-sound guidance covers the INZONE H9, H7, H5, H6 Air, and H3, while separate instructions cover the H9 II and INZONE Buds. A step that applies to one product may use different switch labels, buttons, or pairing behavior on another.

Find the model name
- Check the label on the headset, its charging case, the box, or the purchase record.
- If the headset is already visible in a computer or phone, open its device details; the product name normally identifies the family.
- Do not assume that “INZONE” means every connection method is available. Some models rely on a USB transceiver, some support Bluetooth, and some also accept a wired connection.
Identify how you are connected
| Connection route | What must be present | Typical first checks |
|---|---|---|
| USB transceiver | The headset, its model-specific USB transceiver, and a compatible computer or console USB port | Power, transceiver switch position, firm seating, direct USB connection, and selected audio output |
| Bluetooth | A headset and host device that support the relevant Bluetooth connection | Source playback, host volume, Bluetooth profile, reconnection, and host restart |
| Wired | The headset cable and a host jack or adapter | Fully seated plugs, the host’s selected output, and whether the cable or adapter is intended for that model |
If you are unsure, unplug the USB transceiver and cable, turn Bluetooth off temporarily, and determine which route you actually intend to troubleshoot. Mixing routes can make a headset appear connected while the computer or console sends sound somewhere else.

Use this order before changing settings
Follow these checks in sequence. They are designed to rule out simple routing and connection problems before you erase pairings or reset the headset.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Turn on both ends. Confirm that the headset is powered on and that the computer, PS5, phone, or other host is awake. A transceiver plugged into a sleeping or shut-down host cannot establish an audio path.
- Check the physical connection. Seat the USB transceiver firmly and try another USB port on the same host. For a wired setup, push each plug fully into its socket and inspect the cable for obvious damage.
- Check the model-specific switch. Some transceivers have a host selector. On the H9 II, Sony specifies PC for a computer and OTHER for game consoles and smartphones. Other INZONE models can use different labels, so follow the guide for your exact model rather than copying the H9 II setting.
- Connect directly to the host. For supported USB-transceiver models, connect the transceiver directly to the computer or PS5 instead of routing it through a television or another intermediary. Sony’s H9 II guidance says compatibility with a PC and PS5 is supported, while other devices are not guaranteed.
- Select the INZONE output. Open the computer, console, phone, or application sound settings and choose the relevant INZONE headset as the output. A headset can show as connected while another speaker, monitor, controller, or application output remains selected.
- Play a known audio source and raise volume. Start music or a system test tone, raise the host volume, and check the headset’s own volume control if the model has one. A silent source is not evidence that the wireless link has failed.
- Restart the host. Restart the computer or PS5 after changing the USB port, switch position, or output selection. For Bluetooth, turn the host connection off and on, then restart the host if reconnection does not restore audio.
- Re-pair before initializing. Pairing repairs the link without immediately deleting every stored setting. Factory initialization is an escalation step because it removes Bluetooth pairing information.
Fix an INZONE headset using its USB transceiver
Check power, switch position, and USB seating
Turn on the headset first, then confirm the transceiver is inserted into a working USB port. Remove and reinsert it firmly. If the host has several ports, try another one; a port can provide insufficient connection reliability even when it powers another accessory.
Set the transceiver switch to the position required by your model and host. On the H9 II, use PC with a computer and OTHER with a game console or smartphone. Do not apply those labels automatically to an H9, H7, H5, H6 Air, H3, or INZONE Buds transceiver.
Use a direct host connection
For models supported by a USB transceiver, plug it directly into the computer or PS5. Avoid a television USB port when troubleshooting. Sony Support’s H9 II article states: “Other devices, like TVs, are not guaranteed to work.” That statement applies to the H9 II guidance; it is not a universal compatibility promise for every INZONE model.

Pair the H9 II transceiver again
The H9 II has a documented manual pairing sequence. Keep the headset and transceiver close together, ideally within one metre, while pairing.
- Turn on the computer or PS5 and the H9 II headset.
- Set the H9 II transceiver switch to PC for a computer or OTHER for a console or smartphone.
- Press and hold the transceiver’s connect button and the headset’s power button for about five seconds or longer.
- Watch the indicator and listen for the voice prompts that confirm the pairing process.
- If it does not complete, restart the computer or PS5, retry the pairing sequence, and reconnect the transceiver.
The exact button behavior and indicator pattern can differ on other INZONE products. Use the instructions for the exact model instead of assuming the H9 II timing applies everywhere.

When the transceiver connects but there is no sound
Open the host’s sound settings and the individual application’s audio settings. Both levels matter: the operating system can list the headset while a game, media player, or voice-chat application continues using a different output. Select the INZONE device in the application, then play audio again.
On a computer, also check whether a monitor or dock became the default output after the transceiver was inserted. On a PS5, verify that the console’s audio-output device is the INZONE headset rather than a television or controller. The available labels vary by host and INZONE model.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFix Bluetooth connection or Bluetooth no-sound problems
Confirm that the source is actually playing
Turn on the headset and the phone or computer, start a song or other known audio, and raise the source volume. If the host shows the headset as connected but no sound is audible, pause and resume playback after selecting the INZONE headset as the output.
Use the correct Bluetooth audio profile
Sony identifies A2DP as the Bluetooth profile for music playback. HFP and HSP are call-oriented profiles. If a computer has switched to a hands-free call profile, music may be silent, lower quality, or routed differently. End the call or voice-chat session, then select the stereo or high-quality music output associated with A2DP.
Profile names differ between operating systems. Look for a stereo, music, or high-quality output rather than a hands-free or headset-call output when listening to music.

Disconnect, reconnect, and restart
- Disconnect the INZONE headset from the host’s Bluetooth menu.
- Turn Bluetooth off on the host, wait briefly, and turn it back on.
- Restart the phone or computer.
- Reconnect the headset and select it as the active output.
- Play audio before opening a call application, so the host establishes the music profile first.
Do not initialize the headset merely because one reconnect attempt failed. Initialization clears saved Bluetooth pairing information and requires every device to be paired again.
INZONE Buds: the LE Audio limitation
INZONE Buds have a documented special case. Sony says that connecting the Buds over Bluetooth to a device without LE Audio can result in no sound. This is a compatibility limitation, not a general diagnosis for every INZONE headset.
When this specific situation matches your setup, Sony’s remedy is to initialize the INZONE Buds and reconnect through the USB transceiver. Use the Buds procedure for initialization and transceiver reconnection; do not substitute the H9 II button sequence. If the host supports the USB transceiver route, use that route rather than ordinary Bluetooth to an incompatible device.
Check output selection when the headset says it is connected
A connection indicator confirms a link, not that applications are sending audio through it. Check both the system-wide output and the application output.
- System output: Choose the relevant INZONE headset in the operating system, console, or phone audio-output menu.
- Application output: In the game, media player, meeting app, or voice-chat app, choose the same INZONE device if the app has its own audio selector.
- Volume and mute: Raise the host volume, confirm the application is not muted, and check the headset’s own volume control.
- Competing devices: Temporarily disconnect a television, monitor, controller headset, dock, or other Bluetooth speaker that could be selected as the default output.
For USB-transceiver models, Sony recommends a direct connection to the computer or PS5 and the correct transceiver switch position. Connecting through a TV’s USB port is not guaranteed in that guidance.

Wired connection checks
Wired behavior depends on the exact INZONE model and cable supplied with it. If you are using a cable, confirm that the cable is intended for the headset and host, insert it fully at both ends, and select the host’s corresponding wired audio output. If the host has separate microphone and headphone sockets, an adapter may be required; use the model’s documented accessory rather than assuming any adapter will carry both signals.
Disconnect the USB transceiver and disable Bluetooth while testing a wired connection. That prevents the host from silently continuing to send audio to a wireless route. If wired audio works while the transceiver or Bluetooth route does not, the headset speaker is less likely to be the cause; continue with the relevant wireless section.
When wireless audio is distorted, noisy, or skipping
Interference is more relevant when sound is unstable or distorted than when the headset never connects at all. For USB-transceiver audio that crackles, skips, or becomes noisy, Sony advises updating the headset software and checking for radio interference or physical obstacles.
Reduce possible interference
- Move the headset and host closer together while testing.
- Keep the transceiver in a direct host connection rather than behind a television or other device.
- Remove large objects or crowded wireless equipment from the immediate path where practical.
- Test with other nearby wireless accessories temporarily disconnected.
Update the headset software
Install available headset software updates using Sony’s supported update process for the exact model. Software menus and version requirements vary, so follow the model-specific instructions. An update will not correct an incorrectly selected audio output, but it is a reasonable step for persistent wireless instability after the physical connection and output checks pass.

Restarting, re-pairing, and initialization are different
Restarting
Restarting means powering the headset or host off and on, or rebooting the computer or PS5. It does not intentionally erase Bluetooth pairings. Use it early, especially after changing a USB port, transceiver switch, or host output.

Re-pairing
Re-pairing creates the wireless relationship again. For the H9 II transceiver, Sony instructs users to hold the transceiver connect button and headset power button for about five seconds or longer and follow the indicator and voice prompts. Keep the devices within one metre and restart the computer or PS5 if the first attempt fails.
Initialization or factory reset
Initialization is the last software step in this sequence. Sony distinguishes it from a normal restart and warns that initialization deletes Bluetooth pairing information. Afterward, every phone or computer that used Bluetooth must be paired again. Write down or remember which devices need to reconnect before starting.
Use the initialization procedure published for your exact model. The H9 II, the older H9/H7/H5/H6 Air/H3 group, and INZONE Buds do not necessarily use identical controls or menus.

| What you observe | Most useful next checks |
|---|---|
| No connection appears | Confirm power, seat the transceiver or cable, verify the model-specific switch, try another direct USB port, then re-pair. |
| Connected, but all audio is silent | Play known audio, raise source volume, select the INZONE output in both the host and application, and restart the host. |
| Music is silent over Bluetooth during or after a call | End the call, switch from HFP/HSP to the A2DP music output, disconnect and reconnect, then restart the host if needed. |
| H9 II works on a computer but not through a television | Use a direct computer or PS5 connection. Sony says other devices, including TVs, are not guaranteed for the H9 II. |
| INZONE Buds connect by Bluetooth to an older or incompatible host but produce no sound | Use the documented LE Audio remedy: initialize the Buds and reconnect through the USB transceiver. |
| Wireless sound is noisy or skips | Update headset software, reduce interference and obstacles, move closer, and keep the transceiver directly connected to the host. |
Replacing a lost or damaged USB transceiver
Sony says replacement INZONE USB transceivers are available when the original is lost or damaged. Compatibility is model-specific, and the cited support information does not provide a universal part number list. Check the exact headset model with Sony Parts and Accessories before buying.
Do not treat a generic USB Bluetooth dongle as a universal replacement. A generic adapter may not implement the INZONE transceiver’s pairing and audio behavior, and the available support instructions do not establish a specific compatible listing for every model. After obtaining the correct replacement, follow Sony’s pairing procedure for that exact headset.
When to stop troubleshooting
Escalate to Sony Support or the retailer when the exact model procedure has been followed, the headset is charged and powered, the host output is correct, direct USB ports and reconnection have been tried, and initialization does not restore the expected connection. Have the model name, host device, connection route, and the step at which the process fails ready for support.
These procedures come from Sony USA official support guidance accessed October 13, 2026. The pages cover the H9 II, H9, H7, H5, H6 Air, H3, and INZONE Buds; they are not a complete procedure set for every INZONE product or every region. Sony’s available parts and software instructions can change, so verify the current model-specific page before ordering a replacement or performing a reset.
