Start with the mower’s navigation system and the exact message or indicator. A wire-free satellite/EPOS mower can stop when it loses satellite positioning, an internet connection, or communication with a reference station. A boundary-wire mower usually keeps working during a Wi-Fi outage but can stop with a “No loop signal” fault when its perimeter circuit is open. Uncut patches require map, work-area, coverage, and fault-history checks; a patch is not automatically a GPS failure.

Use the sequence below without changing settings at random. Menu names and recovery steps differ by brand and model, so confirm each action in your operator manual or the manufacturer’s support page.

Identify the installed navigation system first

Two mowers that look similar can react completely differently to the same outage. Find out whether yours follows a physical boundary wire or a wire-free satellite/RTK/EPOS map before troubleshooting.

System What the mower depends on Typical evidence when something fails Likely first action
Boundary wire Continuous perimeter loop, and often a guide wire, connected to the charging station “No loop signal,” a flashing blue charging-station light, or a mower that will not leave the station Inspect the loop circuit and follow the manufacturer’s wire-break procedure
Wire-free satellite/EPOS Clear satellite view plus the model’s reference-station and internet/Wi-Fi connection requirements Weak GPS, satellite searching, reference-station communication, or a mower that stops in the lawn Check satellite and network status, sky visibility, map settings, and the model’s fallback mode
Virtual-boundary map Positioning signal and a correctly surveyed digital boundary Mower crosses or approaches the mapped edge unexpectedly Check signal strength, nearby slope, and the antenna/cradle position

Do not assume that a Wi-Fi problem affects every installation in the same way. Husqvarna says a Wi-Fi outage can make a wire-free unit stop and search for a signal, while a boundary-wire unit can continue mowing normally. See Husqvarna’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance for that distinction.

Record the evidence before changing anything

Write down what happened while the evidence is still visible. This prevents a map or wiring change from hiding the original fault and gives support staff useful information.

  • Brand, exact model, and software/app version if displayed.
  • Navigation type: boundary wire, wire-free satellite/EPOS, or virtual boundary.
  • Exact app or display wording, including capitalization, and the charging-station light color or flash pattern.
  • Whether the mower stops everywhere or repeatedly in one location.
  • Whether the problem began after a map edit, installation change, Wi-Fi change, storm, landscaping work, or equipment was moved.
  • Whether the mower can return to and leave the charging station.

Take a photograph of the error and station indicator before powering anything off. Manufacturer instructions are model-specific; the same symptom can have different causes on different systems.

Fix a wire-free mower that stops or reports weak GPS

For an EPOS or comparable wire-free installation, stopping in the lawn is commonly associated with loss of satellite positioning or the internet/reference-station link. Husqvarna explains that standard GPS is “only accurate to a few metres; not precise enough for Automower® to navigate reliably within your lawn boundaries.” The statement appears in its support article on Automower EPOS wire-free signal issues; it is an explanation of why these systems use more precise positioning, not a universal accuracy test for every brand.

Check the status shown by the mower and app

  1. Open the mower’s status or error screen and note whether it says weak GPS, searching for satellites, lost reference-station communication, or lost internet connection.
  2. Check whether the reference station has power and whether its connection to the mower or cloud service is shown as online.
  3. Confirm that the required Wi-Fi or internet connection is available at the installation. A wire-free model may stop when that connection is lost; do not apply this behavior to a boundary-wire model.
  4. Wait in an open area for the model’s normal satellite reacquisition period shown in its manual. Do not repeatedly edit the map while it is still searching.

Look for an obstructed view of the sky

Buildings, dense tree canopies, tall hedges, covered passages, and other overhead obstructions can reduce satellite visibility. The 2023 operator’s manual for the Automower 420, 430X, 440, and 450X associates weak GPS with a blocked view of the sky over much of the work area. Its model-specific fallback is to disable GPS navigation and use lawn-coverage functionality instead; follow the manual’s exact menu path before changing that setting. The manual is available at Husqvarna’s 2023 PDF.

Disabling GPS navigation is not a universal fix. It changes how the named Automower models distribute mowing and may be unsuitable for another model or an installation that relies on precise virtual boundaries. Re-enable the normal mode when the signal environment is restored if the manual instructs you to do so.

Check the reference-station and internet path

A mower can have an unobstructed sky view and still stop if its reference station, router, cloud connection, or power supply is unavailable. Check the station’s power indicator, network status, and physical connections. If the station was moved, rotated, or shielded by new construction, restore its approved position before recalibrating anything. Use the manufacturer’s support workflow for reference-station communication faults; Husqvarna’s UK stop/no-start guidance directs owners to dealer help when satellite searching or reference-station communication problems persist: Automower won’t start or keeps stopping.

When a wire-free mower keeps stopping in one place

Compare the stopping point with the map. A repeatable location may indicate a local signal shadow, a map edge, a slope, or an obstruction rather than a lawn-wide GPS failure. Check the mapped work area and exclusion zones, then read the stored error history. Do not redraw a boundary until you know whether the mower is reporting a positioning fault; an incorrect redraw can create a second problem.

Fix a boundary-wire mower with “No loop signal”

“No loop signal” is a wire-system diagnostic, not a GPS message. Husqvarna identifies a broken boundary wire as a possible cause and describes a method for narrowing down the break. A blue flashing light on the charging station together with the message is a strong reason to test the perimeter circuit. Follow Husqvarna’s wire-break procedure or the equivalent instructions for your model.

Confirm the station indication

  1. Read the mower’s exact message and observe the charging-station light pattern.
  2. Check that the station has power and that all loop and guide-wire connectors are seated as specified by the manual.
  3. Look for recent digging, edging, aeration, landscaping, animal damage, or a connector that may have been pulled loose. Do not cut into the cable while it is energized.

Locate the break by splitting the loop

The documented search method divides the loop into sections until the faulty part is isolated:

  1. Use the connector arrangement and test points specified by the mower’s manual.
  2. Separate the boundary loop into two halves and reconnect or test the halves as instructed.
  3. Identify which half still lacks a signal, then divide that half again.
  4. Repeat the halving process until the damaged section is short enough to inspect directly.
  5. Repair the confirmed break with a connector and wire type approved for the installation, then verify the station’s normal indicator before mowing.

A compatible boundary-wire repair kit is relevant only after a wire fault has been confirmed. It will not restore satellite or RTK reception, repair a virtual map, fix a cloud connection, or remove a physical obstruction. If the signal remains absent after the prescribed checks and repair, stop and contact the manufacturer or an authorized dealer rather than repeatedly replacing connectors.

Fix a mower that crosses a virtual or mapped boundary

A boundary crossing has its own diagnostic path. For the Navimow i, Segway advises checking the slope near a standard virtual boundary and the mower’s GPS strength. It also advises repositioning the cradle and antenna; if that does not solve the problem, contact support. Follow the product-specific instructions at Segway Navimow i support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check the physical conditions near the edge

  • Inspect whether the mower approaches the boundary on a slope, bank, dip, or transition where its body can shift relative to the mapped position.
  • Check for newly placed edging, furniture, stones, wet ground, or vegetation that changes the approach path.
  • Verify that the cradle and antenna are still in their approved positions and have not been moved, covered, or tilted.

Do not redraw the map as the first response

Record the GPS-strength reading and the exact location first. A map edit can hide a signal or installation problem and may make other parts of the lawn less accurate. If the manufacturer’s positioning and hardware checks do not correct the crossing, use its support channel.

Fix uncut patches without assuming GPS is at fault

Missed grass can result from coverage settings, a mapped work-area error, a scheduled-area limitation, a stop that interrupted the route, or a local boundary or signal condition. The official sources do not establish a universal relationship between a particular patch shape and a failed sensor, wire, or GPS receiver.

Check the map and work area

  1. Open the map and confirm that the missed section is inside the active work area, not an exclusion zone or an unassigned section.
  2. Check whether the area has a separate schedule, reduced coverage percentage, or temporary pause.
  3. Compare the map with the physical lawn after recent landscaping or furniture changes.
  4. Read the mower’s error history for stops, weak GPS, boundary events, or charging interruptions that could have shortened the run.

Use location patterns as clues, not proof

  • Different random patches: check schedules, coverage settings, charging interruptions, and whether the mower completed its planned sessions.
  • The same patch every time: inspect that location for an exclusion-zone edge, tight passage, slope, obstruction, or local signal limitation. This is a possibility, not a confirmed diagnosis.
  • A patch beside a virtual boundary: record GPS strength and boundary events before editing the map.
  • A patch after a weak-GPS alert: resolve the satellite, reference-station, or internet issue first, then reassess coverage.

Do not claim that every recurring patch proves a failed sensor. If the manual does not explain the pattern, send the map, error history, and photographs to the manufacturer’s support team.

If the mower is physically stuck

A mower can be immobilized by a hole, soft ground, a steep transition, a low branch, a toy, hose, wire, or another obstacle even when navigation signals are normal. The sources reviewed here do not establish one safe, universal procedure for lifting or clearing every model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Stop the mower using the control specified in its operator manual before approaching it.
  2. Keep hands, feet, clothing, and tools away from blades and moving parts.
  3. Follow the exact manual procedure for isolating power and clearing an obstruction; do not improvise by reaching underneath or turning the mower over.
  4. After the area is safe, inspect the map, boundary, slope, and obstacle that caused the stop and correct the physical condition.
  5. Run a supervised test in accordance with the manual and check the next error message rather than assuming the fault is resolved.

A practical decision tree

When to stop DIY troubleshooting

Use authorized service when the manufacturer directs you to do so, especially for a persistent wire-signal fault, reference-station communication failure, or satellite-searching problem. Husqvarna’s support guidance directs owners to a dealer when initial checks do not restore operation. Give the technician the model, photographs, exact messages, light pattern, map, and error history.

Do not open sealed electronics, bypass a boundary circuit, or substitute an unapproved connector merely to clear an error. Before any physical inspection, stop the mower and follow its operator manual; there is no single safe blade-handling sequence that applies to every robot mower.

Questions readers commonly ask

Will turning Wi-Fi off make every robot mower stop?

No. Husqvarna distinguishes wire-free units, which may stop and search when their required connection is lost, from boundary-wire units, which can continue mowing during a Wi-Fi outage. Your model’s navigation system determines the result.

Is “No loop signal” a GPS problem?

No. It points to the boundary-wire circuit or its station connection. Inspect the loop according to the model’s wire-break procedure rather than changing GPS settings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I buy a wire-repair kit to fix weak GPS?

No. A repair kit is appropriate only after confirming a broken boundary wire. It cannot improve satellite visibility, reference-station communication, Wi-Fi, or a virtual map.

Should I disable GPS navigation when patches are missed?

Only if your exact manual recommends it. The 2023 Automower 420/430X/440/450X manual describes lawn coverage as a fallback for weak GPS in those models; that instruction is not universal.

What information should I send support?

Send the exact model, navigation type, error text, station-light pattern, location of repeated stops or patches, map and schedule screenshots, recent installation changes, and the steps you already tried.

The Bottom Line

Diagnose the system before changing settings: weak-GPS and satellite/reference-station messages belong to wire-free troubleshooting, while “No loop signal” belongs to the boundary circuit. For missed patches, verify the map, work area, schedule, and error history. If the fault persists after the model-specific checks, stop and use the manufacturer’s authorized support path.
