Start with the exact stream-health message in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then compare what the encoder shows locally with what YouTube receives.
1. Read YouTube’s stream-health message first
While the stream is running, open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and check stream status, stream health, and real-time analytics. Follow the exact error wording: it is the best first clue to whether the problem is the stream setup or delivery.
- If only one viewer reports an error, YouTube says the cause is likely on that viewer’s computer or internet connection.
- If many viewers on different networks report trouble, an encoder issue is possible.
- If a third-party encoder cannot start, copy a new stream key from Live Control Room and replace the saved key in the encoder. If you signed into YouTube from third-party software without using a stream key, YouTube directs you to that software’s support.
Keep the error message and note when the interruption occurs. A stream that never starts, one that drops after running, and one that remains live but buffers for viewers may need different fixes.
2. Check what the encoder is actually sending
Look at the encoder’s own preview and status before changing network settings. Confirm that the intended camera or video source and microphone are selected, and that the picture and audio are steady and correct. Check the encoder’s error messages and CPU load. If the encoder saves a local recording or archive, inspect it too: a healthy local output alongside a failing YouTube stream points attention toward the outbound connection, as YouTube Help explains in its live-stream troubleshooting guidance.

- If the local picture or sound is already failing, correct the source routing, encoder settings, or CPU pressure first. Update the encoder software; if the cause remains unclear, try another encoder as a diagnostic.
- If local output looks and sounds healthy but YouTube reports a problem, test upload performance and the path to YouTube next.
3. Test upload capacity, not just download speed
Run an internet speed test that reports upload speed. Download speed alone does not tell you whether the stream can be sent reliably; YouTube notes that inbound bandwidth is often greater than outbound. Compare available upload capacity with the combined bitrate of every stream output, then leave room for fluctuations and other network use.
YouTube’s streaming tips recommend 20% upload headroom. Treat that as a safety margin, not a guarantee: other people or devices sharing the connection can consume capacity, and a speed test is only a snapshot. If upload testing indicates a connection problem or the available upload is inadequate, YouTube advises contacting your internet service provider.

4. Stabilize the computer’s network path
For computer-based streaming, YouTube recommends an Ethernet connection rather than Wi-Fi. A compatible cable can remove wireless interference or weak-signal issues, but it will not fix a bad stream key, an encoder fault, insufficient ISP upload capacity, or a YouTube-side issue. Select a cable that fits the computer or its network adapter and is long enough to reach the router; YouTube does not specify a required cable category.
If Ethernet is unavailable, reduce competing use on the same network during the stream and place the computer where its Wi-Fi signal is strongest. Then repeat the upload test under conditions close to the actual meditation session.

5. Match resolution and bitrate to reliable upload
In your encoder’s output or streaming settings, choose a resolution and frame rate whose bitrate the connection can sustain with headroom. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
For scale, YouTube lists 720p at 30 fps with a recommended video bitrate of 2 Mbps and a maximum of 6 Mbps. That is a reference point, not a universal setting: use the full YouTube table for your resolution and frame rate, include any additional output in your total, and choose a sustainable value based on measured upload. If the connection cannot maintain the selected bitrate, lower the bitrate or reduce resolution or frame rate rather than pushing the connection to its limit.

Latency is a separate choice from bitrate. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering. If the meditation does not depend on real-time audience interaction, choose the latency mode that prioritizes stable playback rather than lowering latency without a reason.
6. Test the whole session before going live
- Schedule or prepare an unlisted test in YouTube Studio and use the same audio, video, resolution, frame rate, and encoder settings planned for the meditation.
- Start the encoder ahead of the session. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health status while it runs.
- Confirm that the stream is accessible from the channel or watch page and on a mobile device, as YouTube’s live-streaming tips advise.
- If you record locally, verify that the archive is being created and growing. Keep the test running long enough to see whether the original disconnection recurs.
7. Troubleshoot by symptom
