Start by identifying the connection method. A Logitech device that uses Bluetooth is paired in ChromeOS settings; one that uses a USB receiver depends on the correct receiver technology, a working USB connection, power, and a receiver free from interference. The fixes are different, so do not troubleshoot them as though every Logitech mouse or keyboard works the same way.
Use the sequence below: identify the connection, retry pairing or receiver setup, remove common physical and radio causes, then verify compatibility from the exact Logitech model’s support page before replacing anything.

1. Identify how the Logitech device connects
Look at the mouse or keyboard, its packaging, and any receiver you still have. Logitech products may connect through Bluetooth, a 2.4 GHz USB receiver, a Unifying receiver, or a Logi Bolt receiver. Some models offer more than one method. A USB receiver’s shape alone is not enough to identify it: inspect its logo or model information.

Logitech describes Bluetooth as connecting wirelessly “without using a USB receiver.” That distinction is the fastest way to choose the right troubleshooting branch.

- TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT: This is not a standard plug-and-play receiver. It strictly requires -downloading the official Logitech Unifying Software to sync and pair with your compatible keyboard or mouse
How to recognize the likely method
- A device with a Bluetooth symbol or a documented Bluetooth mode can be paired directly in ChromeOS.
- A small USB device plugged into the Chromebook indicates receiver-based operation. Read its markings before assuming it is Unifying or Logi Bolt.
- If the device has a Connect button, it may support wireless pairing, but the exact behavior varies by model.
- If you have no receiver, do not buy a generic Logitech receiver until you know which technology and model are supported.
2. Re-pair a Bluetooth Logitech mouse or keyboard in ChromeOS
Use this procedure when the Logitech device connects directly over Bluetooth, or when you are deliberately switching a dual-mode device from its receiver to Bluetooth.
- Open the Chromebook status area. Click the status area in the lower-right corner of the desktop.
- Turn on Bluetooth. If Bluetooth is disabled, enable it before searching for the Logitech device.
- Open the device list. Choose Manage devices, then select Add Bluetooth device.
- Put the Logitech device in pairing mode. On many Logitech products, hold the Connect button until the LED blinks rapidly. The button and timing differ by model, so use the device’s specific instructions if a rapid blink does not start.
- Select the device. When the Logitech mouse or keyboard appears in the Chromebook’s Bluetooth list, select it and follow the on-screen pairing steps.
- Confirm the pairing indication. Logitech says that, on products following this behavior, the LED glows steadily for about five seconds after pairing and then turns off to conserve power.
- Test input. Move the mouse or type in a text field. If the device does not respond, turn it off and on, put it back into pairing mode, and repeat the ChromeOS add-device process.
A rapidly blinking LED generally means the device is discoverable; it is not a universal code for every model. If your mouse or keyboard has several channel buttons, use the channel documented for Bluetooth pairing rather than guessing.
If the Logitech device does not appear
- Confirm Bluetooth is still enabled in the Chromebook status area.
- Move the Logitech device close to the Chromebook while pairing.
- Make sure the device is in active pairing mode, not merely powered on. A steady or dark LED may mean it is already connected elsewhere or not discoverable.
- Switch the device off and on, then hold the Connect control again until the LED blinks rapidly.
- Check the exact model’s instructions if the device uses a different pairing button, channel selector, or LED pattern.
Do not plug in a receiver to solve a Bluetooth pairing problem unless the model actually supports receiver operation and you have a compatible receiver. Bluetooth pairing and receiver pairing are separate paths.

3. Check power before diagnosing a connection failure
A mouse or keyboard with weak batteries can appear to be a pairing or receiver problem. Replace or recharge the batteries according to the device’s model instructions, then retry the connection. The title alone does not identify the battery type, so use the battery specification for your exact product rather than choosing a size by appearance.
Power checks for both connection types
- Confirm the power switch is on.
- Install batteries in the correct orientation, or charge the integrated battery if the model has one.
- After replacing batteries, turn the device off and on before trying to pair again.
- Watch the status LED while pressing a key or moving the mouse. No light or response can indicate a power issue rather than a Chromebook setting.
Power checks are especially important for receiver devices because a dead battery can look exactly like a missing or incompatible receiver.
4. Fix a Logitech mouse or keyboard that uses a USB receiver
Receiver-based devices require two things at once: a functioning USB connection and the receiver technology intended for that model. Start with the physical setup before attempting model-specific reconnection instructions.

- Unplug and reconnect the receiver. Remove it from the Chromebook, wait briefly, and connect it again firmly.
- Use a direct USB port. Connect the receiver to the Chromebook itself, not through an unsupported hub or KVM switch.
- Try another Chromebook port. Logitech lists moving a receiver between ports or computers as a useful troubleshooting check.
- Check the device’s batteries. Replace or recharge them as required by the model.
- Keep the receiver and device clear of obstacles. Move the mouse to a non-metal surface and avoid placing the receiver against a metal surface.
- Reduce nearby radio interference. Move the receiver or reduce nearby electronic equipment where practical, then retry the model-specific reconnection procedure.
- Test again after each change. Changing one variable at a time helps show whether the failure is power, USB connection, placement, or compatibility.
Why hubs, KVMs, metal and interference matter
Logitech identifies unsupported hubs or KVMs, metal surfaces, and radio-frequency interference from nearby electronics as possible causes of a lost receiver connection. These conditions can make a receiver appear defective even when the mouse or keyboard and receiver are otherwise compatible. A direct port and a clear, non-metal placement are therefore the appropriate first tests.

When the receiver is detected but input still fails
Reconnect it directly, check the batteries, and move it to another USB port or computer for comparison. If the receiver works only after changing location, interference or the original port setup is more likely than a permanent device failure. If it remains unresponsive, identify the receiver logo and exact device model before attempting replacement or model-specific pairing.
5. Understand Logitech receiver technologies before replacing one
Logitech uses multiple wireless receiver families. A receiver that fits the Chromebook’s USB port is not automatically compatible with the mouse or keyboard.

| Receiver marking or family | What can be established | What you must verify |
|---|---|---|
| 2.4 GHz USB receiver | A receiver-based wireless connection operating in the 2.4 GHz band | The exact receiver and device compatibility for your model |
| Unifying | Designed for Logitech devices that support Unifying; one Unifying receiver can pair with up to six Unifying devices | That the mouse or keyboard is specifically a Unifying model; this does not cover every Logitech device |
| Logi Bolt | A separate Logitech receiver technology | That the device explicitly supports Logi Bolt, rather than Unifying or another receiver |
Do not infer compatibility from the Logitech name, the receiver’s size, or the fact that another Logitech device works with it. The receiver logo and the product’s model-specific support information are the deciding evidence.
What “up to six devices” means for Unifying
Logitech specifies that one Unifying receiver can pair with up to six Unifying devices. This is a capability limit for compatible Unifying products, not a promise that every Logitech mouse or keyboard can use a Unifying receiver. A non-Unifying device will not become compatible merely because the receiver is genuine.
6. If the receiver is missing, identify first and buy second
A missing receiver is not a reason to select the first replacement listing you find. Record the model number from the underside of the mouse, the keyboard’s label, or its original documentation. Then identify the receiver technology from any remaining receiver, logo, or model information and check the exact Logitech product support page.

- Write down the complete mouse or keyboard model number.
- Inspect any receiver for a Unifying, Logi Bolt, or other identifying mark.
- Check whether the product supports Bluetooth as an alternative connection.
- Verify that the proposed replacement receiver is listed as compatible with that exact model.
- Follow the model-specific pairing or reconnection instructions supplied by Logitech.
Compatibility must be established before purchase. The available support guidance does not establish that every Logitech receiver can be paired using ChromeOS alone, so do not assume a replacement will work without the product’s own instructions.
Do not rely on the discontinued Connection Utility
Logitech says its Connection Utility is no longer supported or maintained. If an old instruction tells you to use it, treat that instruction as obsolete and use the current support page for the exact device instead. The absence of that utility does not prove the hardware is faulty; it means you need the supported procedure for the model and receiver family.

| What you observe | Most useful next action |

| The Logitech device never appears in ChromeOS Bluetooth settings | Enable Bluetooth, put the device into rapid-blink pairing mode, move it close to the Chromebook, and retry Manage devices → Add Bluetooth device. |
| The Bluetooth device appears but pairing does not complete | Power-cycle the Logitech device, re-enter pairing mode, and consult the exact model instructions for its Connect control or channel. |
| A receiver device stopped working suddenly | Check or replace batteries, reconnect the receiver directly, try another port, and reduce metal or radio interference. |
| The receiver is connected but the mouse or keyboard remains unusable | Confirm the receiver technology and exact model compatibility before attempting reconnection or replacement. |
| The original receiver is lost | Identify the device model and supported receiver family; check compatibility before buying a replacement. If Bluetooth is supported, use Bluetooth as a separate connection path. |
| The device works on another computer but not through a Chromebook hub or switch | Remove the hub or KVM from the setup and connect the receiver directly to the Chromebook. |
8. Avoid these common mistakes
- Assuming every Logitech receiver is interchangeable. Unifying, Logi Bolt and other receiver types have different compatibility requirements.
- Pairing a receiver device as Bluetooth. A USB receiver model needs its receiver unless the product also documents Bluetooth operation.
- Leaving the receiver in a hub or KVM while troubleshooting. Test a direct Chromebook connection first.
- Ignoring the surface and surroundings. Metal and nearby radio-frequency sources can contribute to receiver dropouts.
- Replacing hardware before checking batteries. Weak power can mimic a connection failure.
- Using an old Connection Utility guide. Logitech no longer supports or maintains that utility.
- Assuming a rapidly blinking LED is universal. It is common for pairing mode, but the exact control and LED behavior vary by model.
9. When to move to model-specific Logitech support
Escalate after the basic branch for your connection type has been completed: Bluetooth is enabled and pairing mode has been retried, or the receiver has been tested with fresh power, a direct port, another port, and reduced interference. At that point, the exact model matters more than generic troubleshooting.

Use the product-specific Logitech support page or contact Logitech with the full model number and a description of what you tested. Include whether the device is Bluetooth, receiver-based, or dual-mode; the receiver logo if present; the Chromebook port used; and the LED behavior. This information helps distinguish an incorrect receiver from a power, placement, or device fault.
If a replacement receiver is being considered, ask for compatibility with the exact mouse or keyboard rather than compatibility with “Logitech” generally. The model page is also the right place to find any supported reconnection process that is not covered by ChromeOS’s Bluetooth menu.
