If your Lenovo tablet is not charging, connect it directly to a compatible AC adapter, leave it powered off or idle for 10–15 minutes, then test a known-good cable and adapter together. A deeply depleted tablet may show no charging icon for several minutes. If there is still no battery icon after that check and the tablet will not start after charging overnight, stop replacing parts at random and arrange Lenovo service.
What to check first when a Lenovo tablet will not charge
A blank screen or missing charging symbol does not immediately prove that the battery or charging port has failed. Lenovo’s Android tablet troubleshooting guide says that a battery icon can take 10–15 minutes to appear, depending on how much charge remains.

- Use a wall AC adapter that is known to work and is specified for your exact Lenovo model.
- Connect the tablet directly to the adapter rather than using a computer USB port as your diagnostic power source when the model’s guide calls for AC power.
- Leave the tablet switched off or idle while it recovers from a very low battery.
- Do not use a cable, adapter or connector that is visibly damaged.
Heavy activity can make a tablet appear to charge slowly because the device is using some of the incoming power. The most useful first test is therefore a powered-off tablet connected to a compatible wall charger.

| What you see | What to do next |
|---|---|
| No icon immediately after plugging in | Keep the tablet connected directly to AC power and wait 10–15 minutes. A deeply depleted battery may need that recovery period. |
| The icon appears after several minutes | Leave the tablet off or idle and allow charging to continue. The first icon only shows that charging has begun. |
| Charging is slow while you use the tablet | Repeat the test with the screen off or the tablet powered down. Streaming, gaming and other activity consume incoming power. |
| Charging starts and stops when the plug moves | Stop using that cable or stressing the connector. Test a known-good compatible set and arrange service if the symptom remains. |
| No icon after an alternate charger and an overnight charge | Use Lenovo’s support or repair process rather than opening the tablet or guessing at a battery replacement. |
Step-by-step: fix a Lenovo tablet that is not charging
1. Inspect the complete charging path
Examine the adapter, cable ends and tablet connector in good light. Look for cracked housings, bent or loose connector parts, exposed wiring, scorching or a plug that will not seat normally. A connector that feels unusually loose can indicate a hardware problem, but do not probe inside it with metal or force the plug into position. Remove visibly damaged equipment from use.
Check both ends of the cable. A cable can fail even when its outer jacket looks intact, and a charger can be functional with one cable but not another. Treat the adapter and cable as a pair during diagnosis so that you do not mistake a bad cable for a weak tablet battery.
2. Connect directly to compatible AC power
Plug the adapter into a working wall outlet and connect it directly to the tablet. Lenovo recommends using the charger supplied with the tablet where possible; its hardware battery guidance says, “It is best to use the Lenovo charger that came with your tablet.” See the Lenovo battery hardware guidance for that recommendation.
For this diagnosis, avoid a computer’s USB port, an unpowered hub or an unknown multiport adapter. Those sources may provide less power than the tablet expects and can make a healthy device look faulty. The adapter must match the voltage, current or charging standard Lenovo specifies for the exact model; “USB-C” by itself does not establish compatibility.
3. Wait 10–15 minutes before judging the result
Leave the tablet connected and do not repeatedly press the power button. Lenovo says the charging icon may take 10–15 minutes to appear when the battery is deeply discharged. Keep the tablet off or idle during this period so its screen, processor and wireless activity are not consuming the same power it is trying to recover.
If a battery icon appears, allow charging to continue. The first icon only confirms that the tablet has begun receiving power; it does not mean the battery has recovered enough for normal use.
4. Test a known-good cable and adapter together
If there is still no icon, replace the cable and adapter as a pair with equipment known to work with the same Lenovo model. Lenovo notes that a low-output charger can make charging take longer or may not provide enough power at all. Do not use wattage alone to decide that a replacement is suitable: confirm the tablet’s required voltage, current and connector or charging standard.
Keep the tablet stationary while testing. If the icon appears only when the plug is held at an angle, disconnect it and arrange service rather than repeatedly stressing the connector.

5. Allow a short charge before trying to start it
Once the tablet has been connected to a suitable charger, give it at least two minutes before attempting to turn it on. Lenovo’s Android guidance says a depleted device should be charged for at least two minutes before you try to power it up; the relevant support note is Automatic shutdown or restart – Android tablet.
If it starts, check the battery percentage in Quick Settings or in Settings > Battery. Leave it idle while you observe whether the percentage rises. A percentage that remains unchanged during light or no use points back to the charger, cable, connector or battery rather than to an app consuming power during normal operation.
6. Use the overnight threshold for escalation
If no battery icon appears after the 10–15-minute recovery test and the tablet still will not power on after charging overnight, Lenovo’s troubleshooting guidance says to send the tablet, USB cable and AC adapter for service. At that point, further swapping of random chargers is unlikely to provide a reliable diagnosis.

Test with the tablet off or idle
Streaming video, gaming, navigation, a bright display and active wireless connections all increase the tablet’s consumption while it is plugged in. A low-output adapter may be supplying power, but the device can use much of it immediately. Turn the tablet off for the comparison test. If you need it on, lock the screen, stop demanding apps and leave it idle for several minutes.
Compare the battery percentage only under similar conditions. Checking it while the screen is active and then again while the tablet is asleep does not isolate the charger’s performance.
Confirm that the adapter is not underpowered
Lenovo does not publish one charging specification for every tablet in the lineup. A charger that works for one model can be unsuitable for another, even when the plug fits. Use the exact model number printed on the tablet, its packaging or its system information, then consult the current Lenovo documentation for that model.
The manufacturer specifically warns that a weak charger can slow charging or fail to provide enough power. An adapter that is merely capable of charging a phone, or one connected through a low-power USB port, should not be treated as proof that the tablet itself is defective.
Check the cable and connector fit
A cable must make a stable connection and support the charging requirements of the tablet. Disconnect it and reconnect it without forcing it. If charging starts and stops when the cable moves, or the plug does not remain seated, stop using that cable. Do not scrape the connector with a metal object or attempt an internal port repair based only on the symptom.

Find the exact model before buying anything
Product-family names are not precise enough for charger selection. Identify the complete model code from the tablet’s label, packaging or system information. Record the letters and numbers exactly; two tablets with similar names can have different documented accessories or charging requirements.
Use that identifier in Lenovo’s support pages and read the current specification or FAQ for the device. Confirm the connector type, cable requirements and adapter output listed for that configuration. Do not infer compatibility simply because a replacement plug fits physically, and do not assume that every Lenovo tablet uses USB Type-C.
If the tablet is still able to start, checking the model before ordering a replacement prevents an avoidable mismatch. If it will not start, use the label or original packaging instead of guessing from appearance. Keep the original cable and adapter available until the model-specific requirements are confirmed.

Model-specific charger information: Lenovo Tab M10 (3rd Gen)
Lenovo’s FAQ for the Tab M10 (3rd Gen), model identifiers TB328FU and TB328XU, lists a USB Type-C 2.0 charging cable measuring 1 metre and a 5V/2A adapter. The Tab M10 (3rd Gen) FAQ also says that not every configuration includes those accessories.
Those figures are an example for those two model identifiers, not a universal Lenovo tablet specification. Do not use 5V/2A as a blanket recommendation for another Tab, Yoga or region-specific configuration. Verify the exact model before purchasing a cable or adapter.
| Item | What Lenovo documents for TB328FU/TB328XU | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Charging connector and cable | USB Type-C 2.0 cable, 1 m | Relevant to the Tab M10 (3rd Gen) identifiers listed; do not generalize to every Lenovo tablet. |
| Adapter | 5V/2A | Use only when the tablet’s exact documentation confirms this requirement. |
| Included accessories | Not included with every configuration | A missing original adapter does not establish that any generic replacement is suitable. |
How to compare replacement chargers
When two replacement options appear similar, compare them in the order that matters to the tablet rather than choosing by the largest wattage label.
- Model match: Confirm that the listing or package names the exact Lenovo model identifier.
- Connector and cable: Verify the connector type, cable condition and a firm fit at the tablet and adapter ends.
- Electrical output: Match Lenovo’s documented voltage, current or accepted charging standard. A higher wattage number does not prove that the tablet accepts that output.
- Provenance and safety: Prefer the original Lenovo accessory or an appropriately safety-certified replacement from a reputable source.
Compare the complete set, not just the wall adapter. A compatible adapter paired with a damaged or unsuitable cable can still produce slow or missing charging. Conversely, a cable with the right connector does not make an unknown adapter safe or electrically appropriate.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Exact model: Match the tablet’s model identifier, not just the product family name.
- Connector compatibility: Confirm the plug type and that the cable fits firmly without looseness.
- Electrical specification: Match Lenovo’s stated voltage, current or accepted charging standard. A higher wattage label alone does not prove that the tablet accepts the charger.
- Safety and provenance: Prefer the original Lenovo accessory or an appropriately safety-certified replacement from a reputable source.
A search description such as “Lenovo Tab M10 3rd Gen 5V 2A USB-C tablet charger” is meaningful only when your tablet is actually a TB328FU or TB328XU configuration and the current Lenovo documentation agrees. Generic “USB-C tablet charger” wording is not enough.
What to do if the tablet charges only while idle
This symptom does not automatically mean the battery is defective. Repeat the comparison with the tablet powered off, then with it on but locked and idle. If the percentage rises only when the device is not being used, reduce active use while charging and verify that the adapter meets the exact model specification.
If the percentage does not rise even when the tablet is off, return to the complete charging path: wall outlet, adapter, cable and connector. Test a known-good compatible cable and adapter together before concluding that the tablet needs service.
What not to do when a Lenovo tablet will not charge
- Do not conclude that the tablet is defective solely because the screen remains dark for a few minutes after connection.
- Do not assume every Lenovo tablet uses USB-C or the Tab M10 (3rd Gen) 5V/2A specification.
- Do not keep using visibly damaged adapters, cables or connectors.
- Do not open the tablet or attempt a battery replacement based on these symptoms alone.
- Do not clean or scrape the charging port with a metal tool.
- Do not repeatedly power-cycle a deeply depleted tablet instead of allowing the recovery interval.
These shortcuts can damage the connector or obscure whether the original fault was the power source, cable or tablet.

Escalate when the tablet has had the complete test sequence: direct compatible AC power, an undisturbed 10–15-minute recovery period, a known-good cable and adapter pair, and an overnight charge attempt if it remains unresponsive. A missing battery icon after those checks, combined with a tablet that will not power on, meets Lenovo’s service guidance.
For general troubleshooting, warranty and repair routes, use Lenovo Support. Lenovo’s repair-provider instructions say to use its lookup form, enter the device information and call ahead to confirm that the provider handles the device type. Follow the current regional process described in How to Locate a Repair Center or Service Provider for Your Lenovo Device.
When Lenovo directs you to send the device for service, include the tablet, its USB cable and its AC adapter as instructed in the Android tablet troubleshooting guide. Providing the complete charging set helps the technician reproduce a fault that may not appear with a different accessory.

Keep the cable and adapter you tested. Lenovo’s guidance calls for sending the tablet, USB cable and AC adapter when service is required, so the provider can evaluate the complete charging setup rather than only the tablet.
A practical decision path
- Icon appears within 10–15 minutes: Keep the tablet idle or powered off and let it continue charging.
- It charges only when idle: Reduce active use while charging and verify that the adapter meets the model’s specification.
- No icon with the first charger: Test a known-good compatible cable and adapter together.
- No icon after the alternate set and overnight charge: Contact Lenovo or an authorized service provider rather than opening the tablet.
This sequence separates a depleted battery and an underpowered accessory from a fault that requires professional service, without assuming that one charger specification applies to the entire Lenovo tablet range.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why won’t my Lenovo tablet charge when the screen stays black?
A deeply depleted tablet may need 10–15 minutes on a compatible wall AC charger before its battery icon appears. Leave it powered off or idle, then try powering it on after at least two minutes of charging. If there is still no icon after an alternate compatible cable and adapter and an overnight charge, contact Lenovo service.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
How long should I wait before deciding my Lenovo tablet is not charging?
Lenovo says the charging icon can take 10–15 minutes to appear, depending on the remaining battery charge. Do not repeatedly press the power button during that interval.
Can I charge a Lenovo tablet from a computer USB port?
Use direct wall AC power for diagnosis when the model’s guide calls for it. A computer port or unpowered hub may provide less power and can make a working tablet appear to charge slowly or not at all.
Is every USB-C charger compatible with a Lenovo tablet?
No. USB-C describes the connector, not the tablet’s complete charging requirement. Confirm the exact model’s connector, voltage, current or charging standard, and use an original or appropriately safety-certified replacement.
What charger does a Lenovo Tab M10 (3rd Gen) use?
For model identifiers TB328FU and TB328XU, Lenovo lists a USB Type-C 2.0 cable measuring 1 metre and a 5V/2A adapter. That specification is model-specific and should not be generalized to other Lenovo tablets.
Why does my Lenovo tablet charge slowly while I use it?
The display, processor, wireless connections and demanding apps consume power while the charger supplies it. Test with the tablet powered off or idle, then verify that the adapter and cable meet the exact model requirements.
Should I replace the battery if my Lenovo tablet will not charge?
Do not open the tablet or replace the battery based only on these symptoms. First complete the direct-AC, 10–15-minute wait and known-good cable-and-adapter tests. Persistent failure after an overnight charge warrants Lenovo support or service.
What should I send to Lenovo for a charging problem?
When Lenovo directs you to service, send the tablet, its USB cable and its AC adapter as instructed in the Android tablet troubleshooting guide. Use Lenovo’s provider lookup and call ahead to confirm the provider handles your device type.
The Bottom Line
For a Lenovo tablet that charges slowly or will not charge, start with direct compatible AC power, a visible inspection and a quiet 10–15-minute recovery period. Test the complete cable-and-adapter pair against the exact model’s documented requirements. If no charging icon appears and the tablet remains unable to power on after an overnight charge, use Lenovo support or an appropriate service provider instead of opening the tablet or buying an unverified charger.
