A Hisense TV that will not connect to Wi-Fi can be failing at one of four different points: it cannot see the wireless network, it rejects the password, it joins the router but cannot reach the internet, or the router/ISP is offline. Start with the TV’s network self-test, reconnect to the correct SSID, and restart the router before changing advanced settings. Hisense uses VIDAA, Google TV, Roku TV and other platform and regional menus, so the paths below are examples tied to specific official instructions—not one universal Hisense sequence.
Identify exactly where the connection fails
Do not begin by resetting the television. First determine whether the problem is wireless visibility, authentication, the local router, DNS, or the wider internet. The same “Wi-Fi not working” message can describe several different faults.

| What you observe | Likely fault area | Best next check |
|---|---|---|
| The home Wi-Fi name (SSID) is absent from the TV’s list | Router broadcasting, distance, interference, or the router’s device limit | Confirm the router is on, move the TV closer, reduce obstructions and check whether another device can see the network |
| The SSID is visible but the TV refuses the password | Authentication or an incorrect saved password | Select the SSID again and type the password carefully, including capitalization |
| The TV says it is connected, but apps or internet video do not load | DNS, router configuration, ISP or upstream internet service | Run the network test and compare another device on the same network |
| Phones, computers and other devices also fail | Router or internet-service outage | Restart the modem/router and contact the internet service provider if the outage continues |
| A wired Ethernet connection works while Wi-Fi does not | Wireless modem/router path | Use the wired result to isolate the wireless side; Hisense’s VIDAA U9 manual treats this as evidence of a wireless modem/router issue |
Record the TV model number, operating system or platform name, the exact error text, whether the SSID appears, and whether another device connects. Those details prevent you from applying a menu path intended for a different Hisense model.
Check the model before opening network settings
Hisense menu labels vary by platform, country and model year. Read the model label on the rear of the TV or in its system-information screen, then use the matching manual. VIDAA U9, Hisense USA televisions and Hisense Japan models shown in the official material use different routes to similar settings.

Use the following paths only when they match your television:
| Platform or regional source | Published path or labels | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| VIDAA U9 E-Manual (2025 edition) | Settings > Support > Self Diagnosis > Network Connection Test | Run the test first, then follow its result to the wireless or internet step |
| Hisense USA general setup instructions | Settings > Network > Network Configuration > Wireless, then select the SSID and enter the password | Use this as the connection sequence on models that show these labels |
| Hisense Japan setup FAQ | Network and Service Settings > Network Connection Settings > Easy Network Setup | These Japanese labels are regional examples; they are not a replacement for your model’s manual |
Hisense Japan notes that its ordinary setup sequence assumes an existing internet connection and directs owners of 2025 R-series televisions to separate instructions. If your screen does not contain the labels shown above, stop and find the product-specific guide rather than guessing.
Run the built-in network test and reconnect
1. Start with the VIDAA U9 self-test when applicable
On a VIDAA U9 television, open Settings > Support > Self Diagnosis > Network Connection Test. The test can distinguish a wireless-link problem from a later internet or DNS failure. Note which stage fails and keep that result for any support call.
2. Use the Hisense USA wireless sequence on matching models
- Open Settings > Network > Network Configuration.
- Choose Wireless.
- Select your home network’s SSID from the list.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password exactly as configured on the router, including uppercase and lowercase letters.
- Confirm the connection and retry an app or the TV’s network test.
A password that works on a phone is not proof that the TV entered it correctly. Re-enter it slowly instead of relying on a partially saved value. Check that you selected your own SSID, particularly in apartments or other places where several similar network names appear.

- The unique flat cable shape allows for a cleaner and safer installation. You can easily and seamlessly make the cable run along walls, follow edges & corners or even make it completely invisible by sliding it under a carpet.
3. Interpret the result instead of repeating the same attempt
If the test fails before the TV joins the access point, concentrate on SSID visibility, password entry and the router’s wireless service. If the TV joins Wi-Fi but the internet or DNS stage fails, leave the saved wireless connection intact and move to the internet-service and DNS checks below.
If the Hisense TV cannot see your Wi-Fi name
An absent SSID means the TV has not detected the wireless network; changing DNS will not make a missing network appear. Work through these reversible checks:
- Confirm that the modem/router is powered on and its wireless network is broadcasting. Check with a nearby phone or computer whether the same SSID is visible.
- Move the TV or router closer temporarily. Hisense Japan specifically identifies distance and walls as causes of a weak or unavailable signal.
- Move the router away from sources of radio interference. The Japanese FAQ specifically calls out microwave placement.
- Check whether the router has reached its connected-device limit. Disconnect an unused device briefly and refresh the TV’s network list.
- Restart the modem/router by switching it off for at least 60 seconds, then power it on and wait for its normal connection lights before scanning again. This duration is specified in the VIDAA U9 manual.
- Restart the television. If a normal restart does not help, Hisense Japan advises disconnecting AC power for about five minutes, then reconnecting it and trying the scan again.
If other devices can see and use the SSID from the same room while the TV cannot, record that contrast. It points toward TV compatibility, placement or the TV’s wireless hardware rather than an ISP outage, but the exact cause still depends on the model and router configuration.

Re-enter the password
Select the SSID again and type the password from the router’s label or its administration page. Pay attention to capitalization and characters that look alike. A single incorrect character produces the same broad failure message as a router problem.

Compare another device on the same network
Try a phone or computer from the same location. If that device also cannot join, the failure is not specific to the television; restart the modem/router and, if service remains unavailable, contact your internet service provider. If other devices connect normally, continue with the TV’s model-specific self-test and the advanced checks later in this guide.
Check the router’s client limit
Hisense Japan lists the router’s maximum number of connected devices as a possible reason a television cannot join. Temporarily disconnect an unused device or review the router’s client list, then retry the TV connection. Do not assume that a strong signal guarantees that the router will accept another client.
If the TV connects but apps still have no internet
This state means the television may have joined the local wireless network while failing at DNS or the upstream internet connection. Run the built-in network test again and compare the result with another device on the same router.
- If every device loses internet access, treat it as a modem/router or ISP problem. The VIDAA U9 manual directs you to contact the internet service provider when all devices fail.
- If other devices browse normally, keep the TV connected and investigate the TV’s DNS, IPv6 and router topology settings using the exact instructions for its model.
- If only streaming apps fail while the TV’s network test passes, note the app and error message separately. The supplied Hisense instructions establish network troubleshooting, not a guaranteed fix for an individual service outage.
Advanced checks when other devices work
Use these only after password, signal, restart and device-comparison checks. Advanced settings differ by region, and a wrong change can remove a working connection.

Try the regional IPv6 setting only when your model exposes it
Hisense Japan’s staged troubleshooting FAQ suggests disabling IPv6 in its model-specific menu when other devices work but the television cannot reach the internet. The FAQ does not make this a universal Hisense instruction. If your menu has no IPv6 control, do not invent one; consult the television’s manual.
Look for a double-router arrangement
Hisense Japan also advises checking for a double-router setup. This occurs when two network devices are both routing traffic instead of one acting as the access point or bridge required by the household configuration. Identify every box between the TV and the internet connection. Change router roles only if you understand the existing setup or can restore its original settings.
Use the DNS addresses cited by Hisense Japan
For models covered by its DNS FAQ, Hisense Japan suggests 8.8.8.8 as a primary DNS address and says 8.8.4.4 can be tried as a secondary address. These are model- and region-specific troubleshooting suggestions, not a guaranteed fix or a universal Hisense requirement. Write down the original DNS values before changing them so you can restore the prior configuration if the result is worse.

Do not reset until you understand what will be erased
A router reset can erase the wireless name, password, ISP settings and other custom configuration. A TV factory initialization can erase saved networks and personal settings. Hisense USA’s general support material includes reset guidance, while Hisense Japan warns that initialization is a later measure. Use the exact reset procedure for your model, and treat it as a recovery step—not a routine Wi-Fi test.

Test with Ethernet when the TV has a network port
If the television has an Ethernet port, connect it directly to a LAN port on the router with a standard Ethernet cable, then run the TV’s network test. This is a diagnostic and a possible temporary fallback, not a repair to the TV’s Wi-Fi radio.
In the VIDAA U9 E-Manual’s troubleshooting context, Hisense states: “If the wired network connection succeeds, there is an issue with your wireless modem/router.” That conclusion applies to the manual’s test scenario: a successful cable connection proves that the TV can reach the network through the wired path while the wireless path remains suspect. It does not prove that replacing the router will be necessary, and it does not guarantee that a cable will be practical for your room.
Keep the regional instructions separate
Hisense Japan’s FAQs, the VIDAA U9 manual and the Hisense USA setup article are all official, but their labels should not be merged into a single sequence. The Japanese setup FAQ uses “Network and Service Settings,” “Network Connection Settings” and “Easy Network Setup.” The VIDAA U9 manual uses “Support,” “Self Diagnosis” and “Network Connection Test.” The USA article uses “Network Configuration” and “Wireless.” A menu path is reliable only when the platform and region match.

A practical decision path
- Identify the model and platform. Do not assume a VIDAA, USA or Japan path applies to your screen.
- Run the matching network self-test. Record whether failure occurs at Wi-Fi, router, DNS or internet.
- If the SSID is missing, check broadcasting, distance, walls, microwave interference and the router’s device limit.
- If the SSID is visible but rejected, re-enter the password with exact capitalization and compare another device.
- Restart the router for at least 60 seconds. Restart the TV, and use the approximately five-minute AC unplug only if the normal restart did not help.
- If other devices also fail, contact the ISP after the restart.
- If other devices work, apply only the advanced IPv6, double-router or DNS instruction documented for your model and region.
- If available, test Ethernet. A successful wired test isolates the wireless modem/router path in the VIDAA U9 manual’s scenario.
- Use a factory or router reset last. Follow the exact manual and expect saved settings to be erased.
When to contact Hisense or your internet provider
Contact the ISP when all devices lose internet access after the modem/router restart, or when the TV’s manual directs you to do so. Contact Hisense support when the TV alone fails despite a visible SSID, a confirmed password, a working connection on other devices and a model-specific network test that still fails.
Have these details ready:
- Full model and regional version, plus the platform name if shown.
- The exact menu path you used and the network-test stage that failed.
- Whether the SSID was visible and whether another device connected.
- Whether Ethernet worked, if the TV has an Ethernet port.
- Any router changes already made, including IPv6 or DNS values.
This evidence lets support distinguish a saved-network problem from a router, DNS, ISP or hardware fault without asking you to repeat unrelated resets.
