Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If your Restore 3 is not finishing setup, first identify whether the Hatch Sleep app cannot discover it over Bluetooth or whether the device is found but cannot join Wi-Fi. Restore 3 requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network; Bluetooth is used to discover it during setup, while Wi-Fi is used after registration. If it connects but seems silent, check Pause and volume before troubleshooting the network.
Work through the checks in that order: discovery first, then Wi-Fi, then playback controls. Changing router settings will not fix a phone that cannot find the device over Bluetooth, and repeating setup will not help a device that is simply paused or turned down.

First, identify where the problem occurs
Setup has two separate stages. Your phone uses Bluetooth to find Restore 3; the device then uses Wi-Fi to complete registration and connect. That distinction helps narrow the fix:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- The app keeps searching and does not find Restore 3: check Bluetooth, permissions, distance, and pairing mode.
- The app finds Restore 3, but Wi-Fi setup stalls: check the 2.4 GHz network, password, router, and network access rules.
- Restore 3 is connected but has no sound: check whether playback is paused and raise the volume.
Hatch requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for Restore. A 5 GHz-only network is not sufficient. The two connection stages are easy to confuse: Bluetooth discovery is not evidence that Wi-Fi has joined successfully, and a Wi-Fi problem does not necessarily mean Restore 3 is undiscoverable. See Hatch’s official connection troubleshooting guidance for its model-specific recommendations.

Use the message or behavior in the app to decide which section to try first. If the app is still searching, begin with Bluetooth. If Restore 3 appears in the app but setup does not complete, focus on the network. If setup is complete and the device is online but audio is quiet or absent, start with the physical controls instead of resetting the network.
Fix Bluetooth discovery problems
If the app never finds the device, work through these checks before changing router settings. Bluetooth is used for the initial discovery and pairing process. Restore 3 still needs Wi-Fi afterward, but troubleshooting Wi-Fi cannot resolve a discovery step that has not happened yet.
Check phone settings and distance
- Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and allow the Hatch Sleep app to use Bluetooth. On iOS, check the app’s Bluetooth permission.
- On Android, turn on Location Services for device discovery.
- Keep your phone close to Restore 3. Hatch gives an approximate Bluetooth range of 30 feet, but recommends setup in the same room, about 10 feet away.
- If the app continues searching, force-close it and reopen it.
The distance figures are practical setup guidance, not a guaranteed connection range. For troubleshooting, choose the closer same-room position rather than testing near the edge of the approximate 30-foot range. Keep the phone close while you retry discovery, and avoid moving it away during the pairing attempt.

Merely having Bluetooth turned on does not address a missing app permission. Likewise, Android users should check Location Services as Hatch identifies it as part of device discovery. If the app still searches after those checks, force-close and reopen the Hatch Sleep app before trying again.
Hatch’s Bluetooth troubleshooting article was updated September 14, 2026. Its range and distance guidance should be treated as troubleshooting recommendations rather than measured performance promises.
Put Restore 3 into pairing mode
- On the bottom of Restore 3, find the button marked with two arrows.
- Hold that button for two seconds.
- Check for the green Bluetooth indicator and a dot moving in a circle on the clock display.
- Retry discovery in the Hatch Sleep app while your phone is nearby.
The indicator and moving dot are useful confirmation that you have put Restore 3 into the documented pairing state. If they do not appear, do not substitute an improvised button sequence; consult Hatch’s Restore 3 instructions or contact Support for model-specific help.
Only one phone can pair with Restore 3 at a time during setup. Close the Hatch app on other nearby phones before trying again. This is an easy-to-miss source of confusion in a household where more than one person has the app: leave one phone as the active setup phone and close the app on the others for the attempt.
Fix Wi-Fi setup that will not finish
If the app finds Restore 3 but cannot finish connecting, the next checks are about the wireless network. Restore 3 requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Keep Bluetooth discovery and Wi-Fi joining separate in your diagnosis: once discovery works, make sure the network you select is suitable before repeating the pairing steps.
Confirm the network is 2.4 GHz
Make sure the router broadcasts a 2.4 GHz network and that the network you select in the Hatch Sleep app is that band. If the router broadcasts both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, check that 2.4 GHz is enabled; a 5 GHz-only network will not work for Restore. Also confirm that your phone can join the intended Wi-Fi network and that you have entered its password correctly.

Do not assume that a network name tells you which band it uses. Check the router or network settings if you are unsure whether 2.4 GHz is enabled, and make sure you are selecting the intended network in the app. A phone joining Wi-Fi is a useful check that the network and credentials are available to the phone, but it does not establish that every network access rule will permit Restore 3 to join.
Hatch recommends updating the router, phone, and Hatch Sleep app. Its general Wi-Fi guidance says Wi-Fi is required for setup and ongoing use; Bluetooth discovery does not replace the Wi-Fi connection. If you have verified the band and password but setup still stalls, move on to the router restart and network-access checks instead of repeatedly entering the same information.
Power-cycle Restore 3 and the router
Hatch’s documented power cycle involves both the device and the router. Follow the order and allow the router time to restart before retrying setup:
- Force-close the Hatch Sleep app.
- Unplug Restore 3 and the router.
- Leave the router unplugged for about five minutes.
- Reconnect the router and allow about five minutes for it to recover.
- For the test, place Restore 3 close to the router. Plug Restore 3 back in.
- Retry registration or the Wi-Fi update in the app.
The two approximately five-minute intervals apply to the router: one while it is unplugged and one after it is reconnected to recover. The close-to-router placement is for the test, not a requirement to keep Restore 3 beside the router permanently. The documented sequence also includes unplugging Restore 3; do not omit that step when following this particular power cycle.
The five-minute intervals are Hatch’s documented power-cycle instructions, not a promise that setup will take a fixed amount of time. If the app still cannot finish after you have allowed the router to recover and retried near it, move to the network restrictions and alternative-network checks below.
Check whether the network restricts devices
Some networks impose access rules that can prevent a connected device from completing setup. If the ordinary checks fail, try a different secure, password-protected 2.4 GHz network that your phone can join. Hatch does not establish compatibility with every campus network, captive portal, or router model, so a network that requires a web sign-in page or blocks device access may remain unsuitable.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
This is particularly relevant if you are setting up Restore 3 somewhere other than a typical home network. A campus, hotel, or other managed network may have rules or sign-in steps beyond selecting a Wi-Fi name and entering a password. Hatch’s available guidance does not confirm that every such network is supported, so do not treat a stalled setup on one of them as proof that Restore 3 itself is defective.
Use a different network as a test only if it meets the basic checks: it broadcasts 2.4 GHz, is secure and password-protected, and allows the phone and Restore 3 to use the intended connection. If the alternative network also has access rules that prevent a device from joining, the result will not tell you much about the original network.
When to try a hotspot or travel router
Hatch says some users have connected Restore 3 using a phone hotspot, and some have found a travel router helpful. Treat either as a workaround to test—not a guaranteed fix. The alternative network must broadcast 2.4 GHz, be password-protected, and allow the phone and Restore 3 to use the intended connection during setup. A travel router also needs to suit the rules of the home, hotel, or campus network it will use.

Consider these options after checking the usual network’s band, password, and access rules, rather than buying an accessory as the first response to a setup problem. A hotspot can help test whether the usual Wi-Fi is the obstacle, but Hatch does not promise that every phone hotspot is compatible. Check that it provides a suitable 2.4 GHz connection and remains available to the devices during setup.
Recommended Free Tools
A travel router is a conditional option for a network environment where the existing Wi-Fi is unsuitable. It must broadcast 2.4 GHz and be usable under the relevant upstream network’s rules. Hatch’s guidance does not establish compatibility with every hotel, campus, or captive portal, and it does not identify a particular model or price. Do not assume that adding a travel router will bypass restrictions imposed by the network it connects to.
| Option | What to check | What it can tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Your usual Wi-Fi | 2.4 GHz is enabled; the password is correct; the phone can join; device access is allowed. | If setup works, the original issue may have been a band, password, or network-access setting. |
| Phone hotspot | The hotspot is password-protected and offers a compatible 2.4 GHz connection. | Hatch reports that some users have connected this way; success is not guaranteed. |
| Travel router | It broadcasts 2.4 GHz and can connect under the relevant home, hotel, or campus network rules. | Hatch says some users found one helpful; it is not established as compatible with every network. |
Do not assume that a hotspot or travel router will bypass a captive portal or other network restriction. If an alternative network does not meet the checks above, it is not a useful compatibility test. The comparison is not about which option is universally best; it is about finding an available, password-protected 2.4 GHz network that permits the device to join.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Restore 3 connects, but there is no sound
Start with the controls rather than repeating Wi-Fi setup. The Restore 3 Controls Guide identifies the Pause control and Big Button as the relevant playback controls. A device that is connected but silent may simply be paused or have its volume turned down, so check those simple causes first:
- Press Pause once to check whether audio is paused. Press it again to resume playback.
- Use the Big Button to raise the volume.
- Try playing audio again.
Make one control change at a time and test playback again, so you can tell whether Pause or volume was the issue. If pressing Pause resumes sound, there is no need to troubleshoot Wi-Fi for that symptom. If raising the Big Button volume restores audible playback, the connection was not the cause of the apparent silence.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe guide identifies a long press of the Light Button as a reset control, but does not provide a complete diagnostic sequence for sound failure. Do not guess at a reset procedure or assume that a reset is the documented remedy for silence. If playback remains silent after checking Pause and volume, contact Hatch Support for troubleshooting rather than trying unsupported reset steps.
Contact Hatch Support if the checks fail
If Restore 3 still cannot be discovered, join Wi-Fi, or play audio after the relevant checks, use Hatch’s support chat or request route. Hatch advises contacting Support before deleting your account; account deletion is not a routine connection fix.
When contacting Support, describe the stage that fails rather than saying only that Restore 3 “won’t connect.” For example, say whether the app continues searching and never finds the device, whether it finds the device but Wi-Fi setup does not finish, or whether setup completes but playback is silent. Include the checks you tried, such as confirming 2.4 GHz, enabling the required phone settings, putting Restore 3 into pairing mode, and completing the power cycle. This gives Support a clearer starting point without presuming a cause.
For model-specific instructions, consult Hatch’s official pages: Connection troubleshooting for Restore 3, Bluetooth Connection Troubleshooting Tips for Wi-Fi Devices, How to Perform a Power Cycle Reset, and the Restore 3 Controls Guide. Use the current instructions from Hatch if a procedure is unclear. Hatch’s reviewed guidance does not establish a full Restore 3 sound-failure diagnostic sequence or a general recovery-reset button sequence, so avoid guessing.
Rank #4
If the issue remains after the documented checks, ask Hatch Support whether further model-specific troubleshooting is appropriate before considering hardware replacement. The supported guidance does not establish a replacement part, repair procedure, or price. Buying another unit is not a solution to an ordinary 2.4 GHz, password, or network-access configuration problem.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Hatch Restore 3 need 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi?
Yes. Hatch says Restore requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. A 5 GHz-only network is not sufficient, so confirm that 2.4 GHz is enabled and that you select that network during setup.
Why does the Hatch Sleep app keep searching for my Restore 3?
That points to the Bluetooth discovery step. Turn on phone Bluetooth, check the Hatch app’s Bluetooth permission on iOS or Location Services on Android, keep the phone nearby, and put Restore 3 into pairing mode by holding the two-arrow button on its bottom for two seconds. Close the Hatch app on other nearby phones because only one phone can pair during setup.
What does it mean if the app finds Restore 3 but Wi-Fi setup stalls?
Bluetooth discovery has worked, but Wi-Fi joining or registration has not finished. Check that the selected network broadcasts 2.4 GHz, the password is correct, the phone can join it, and the network allows device access. Then try Hatch’s documented power cycle.
How do I put Restore 3 into pairing mode?
Hold the two-arrow button on the bottom of Restore 3 for two seconds. Hatch says the Bluetooth indicator should turn green and a dot should move in a circle on the clock display. Retry discovery with the phone nearby.
How long should I unplug the router when power-cycling Restore 3?
Hatch’s instructions say to leave the router unplugged for about five minutes, then reconnect it and allow about five minutes to recover. The sequence also calls for force-closing the app, unplugging Restore 3, testing with Restore 3 close to the router, and retrying setup.
Can I connect Restore 3 to a phone hotspot or travel router?
Hatch reports that some users have connected with a phone hotspot and some have found a travel router helpful, but neither is guaranteed. The network should be password-protected, broadcast 2.4 GHz, and allow the phone and Restore 3 to use the intended connection. A travel router must also suit the rules of the home, hotel, or campus network.
Why is my Restore 3 connected but not making sound?
Check whether playback is paused and press Pause again to resume. Use the Big Button to raise the volume, then test playback. If it remains silent, contact Hatch Support; the Controls Guide does not provide a complete sound-failure diagnostic sequence.

No. Hatch’s general connection guidance says to contact Support before deleting the account. Account deletion is not a routine connection troubleshooting step.
The Bottom Line
For a Restore 3 that will not set up, first distinguish Bluetooth discovery from Wi-Fi joining: use the bottom two-arrow button for pairing, then confirm a password-protected 2.4 GHz network and follow Hatch’s five-minute router power cycle if needed. For a device that is already connected but silent, check Pause and the Big Button volume before contacting Hatch Support. Hotspots and travel routers are possible workarounds, not guaranteed fixes.
