First identify the watch’s exact make and model, then work through power, charger fit, contacts, accessory, and model-specific restart checks in that order. A blank screen can mean a fully depleted battery or a frozen system; it does not by itself prove that the battery has failed permanently.
Charging times, indicator behavior, button names, and force-restart sequences differ between watches. Do not buy a replacement cable or use a button combination from another model until you have confirmed the model printed on the case, box, app, or original documentation.

Before troubleshooting: identify the exact watch
“Gaming watch” is not a single technical standard. It may describe a smartwatch used with games, a fitness watch with game features, or a model marketed for gaming. The charger, charging contacts, buttons, and recovery procedure are model-specific.

Gather a safe test setup
- The original charging cable, puck, dock, or cradle made for the watch.
- A known-good wall outlet or computer USB power source.
- A dry, well-lit surface where you can inspect the watch and charger contacts.
- The model’s manual or official support page, ready for the correct button sequence.
Do not assume that a cable with the same connector, a magnetic puck that looks similar, or a dock for another watch family is electrically compatible. Samsung warns that the wrong dock may not charge a Galaxy Watch correctly, while Apple and Garmin direct users to try accessories intended for the relevant watch family (Samsung support; Apple Support; Garmin Support).
Follow this troubleshooting order
1. Charge a potentially depleted battery
Place the watch on its proper charger and connect that charger to a known-good power source. Confirm that the cable is seated at both ends and that the watch is resting fully on the charging surface. Leave it connected even if the screen remains black at first. A deeply depleted battery may need time before a charging symbol appears.
There is no universal waiting time. Apple says an Apple Watch may need up to 30 minutes before the lightning-bolt indicator appears. Samsung’s US guidance says to charge a Galaxy Watch for at least one hour when its battery is completely discharged (Apple Support; Samsung Support). Treat those as manufacturer-specific examples, not a rule for every gaming watch.

- Place the watch on the charger and check for a charging icon, vibration, LED, or other model-documented indication.
- Leave it connected for the model’s recommended period, or for at least 30 minutes when no model guidance is available, while you verify the accessory and power source.
- Try the normal power button once. Do not repeatedly press every button while the watch is recovering.
Apple describes a red lightning bolt as meaning that the watch does not have enough battery power to turn on (Apple Support). A similar blank-screen condition on another model may still have a different indicator or no visible indicator at all.
2. Check alignment and clean the charging contacts
Remove the watch and inspect the back of the case and the charger. Look for dust, skin residue, moisture, corrosion, bent pins, or pins that sit unevenly. A small amount of contamination or poor alignment can interrupt charging even when the cable and power source work.
- Disconnect the charger from power.
- Wipe visible dirt from the watch’s charging area and the charger contacts with a soft, dry method recommended by the watch maker.
- Make sure the watch and charger are completely dry.
- Reconnect the charger and reposition the watch until it sits squarely and remains in contact.
Garmin advises checking the cable and contact pins, cleaning contacts gently, and allowing the area to dry before reconnecting. Apple likewise recommends checking the alignment and cleanliness of the watch back and magnetic charger (Garmin Support; Apple Support).
Do not scrape contacts with a sharp tool, bend spring pins, or force the watch into a dock. If a pin is damaged or the charging surface is cracked, stop testing that accessory and move to the service step.

- What You Get & Support Includes 1 USB charging cable. Note: VeryFit is an app name and does not mean it fits all smartwatches. If youre unsure, contact us with your watch model and a photo of the charging port.
3. Rule out the outlet, USB source, cable, and dock
A watch that appears dead may be connected to a failed outlet, computer port, cable, adapter, or dock. Change one element at a time so you know what fixed the problem.
- Move the charger to another suitable wall outlet or a known-good computer power source.
- Use another compatible power adapter if the manufacturer permits it.
- Try a known-good charging cable or dock designed for the exact watch model.
- Reconnect the watch and observe whether an indicator appears.
Apple recommends trying another Apple Watch charging cable and USB power adapter. Garmin recommends trying another cable for supported devices, and its Approach guidance includes a replacement-cable path. These instructions do not make the cables interchangeable with one another or with an unspecified gaming watch (Apple Support; Garmin Support).
If a second compatible charger works, the original accessory is the likely fault. If no compatible charger produces any sign after the model’s charging interval, continue with the model-specific restart procedure rather than repeatedly swapping random docks.
4. Distinguish a frozen watch from a watch with no power
A watch may be receiving power while its operating system or display is frozen. Signs can include a logo that never finishes loading, a button or touch action that produces no response, or a screen that stays dark while the charger indicates activity. These observations narrow the next step but do not prove a particular component has failed.

Keep the watch on its correct charger while you prepare the force-restart sequence. If the screen remains blank, use only the buttons and hold time specified for the exact model. Do not start with a factory reset: a reset erases user data on many devices, while a force restart is intended to recover an unresponsive system without deliberately wiping it.
5. Perform a model-specific force restart
Button combinations are not universal. The following are official examples; use your model’s manual when its buttons or timing differ.
Apple Watch example
Press and hold the Side button and Digital Crown together for at least 10 seconds, or until the Apple logo appears, according to Apple’s support procedure (Apple Support). Release the buttons when the logo appears, then leave the watch on its charger while it completes startup.

Samsung Galaxy Watch example
Samsung uses the Home/Power and Back buttons for a forced restart, but the required hold time can vary by device. Follow the sequence for the specific Galaxy Watch model rather than assuming that a timing from another generation applies (Samsung Support; Samsung Support).

Garmin Approach example
Garmin’s Approach recovery instructions describe holding the power button for 30 seconds, releasing it, and then connecting the watch to a computer. That is a procedure for supported Approach models, not a universal Garmin or gaming-watch command (Garmin Support).
Other models
Look for a support article titled “won’t turn on,” “won’t charge,” “blank screen,” or “not responding” for the exact model. If the maker specifies a different button, a longer hold, or a computer connection, follow that sequence exactly. Never combine buttons from different watch families.
6. Charge again after the restart
After a successful force restart, return the watch to its correct charger. Give it time to reach a usable charge before testing menus, games, wireless features, or a phone connection. If it starts only while connected to power, let it charge fully enough to determine whether it can remain on when removed; do not infer battery health from a single immediate unplugging test.
What the official examples have in common—and where they differ
The table separates manufacturer instructions so that a timing or button sequence is not accidentally applied to the wrong watch.
| Watch family | Charger and connection checks | Charging indication or wait guidance | Force-restart instruction | When the maker directs you to service |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Watch | Check magnetic alignment and cleanliness; try another Apple Watch charging cable and USB power adapter. | A red lightning bolt means the watch lacks enough power to turn on; the indicator may take up to 30 minutes to appear. | Hold the Side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears. | Contact Apple service if the watch remains inoperative after the charging and restart checks. |
| Samsung Galaxy Watch | Use the correct dock; a wrong dock may not charge the watch correctly. | Charge for at least one hour when the battery is completely discharged. | Hold Home/Power and Back; hold time varies by device. | Disconnect and cool an overheating watch; seek service if it still will not power on or charge. |
| Garmin Approach | Inspect cable and contact pins, clean gently, let them dry, and try another compatible cable. | Indicator timing is model-specific and not stated as a universal interval. | Hold the power button for 30 seconds, release it, then connect to a computer in the supported recovery sequence. | Use Garmin support or service if the supported recovery and charging checks do not restore operation. |

The watch shows a charging icon but will not boot
Keep it connected for the manufacturer’s stated interval, then perform the exact force restart. A charging icon confirms that the watch is detecting some power, not that the battery is healthy or that the operating system has completed startup. If the same logo or icon remains indefinitely, stop repeating the sequence and contact the maker with the model number and the steps already tried.

The screen is completely blank
First treat the condition as either deep depletion or a frozen device: verify the charger, wait, inspect contacts, and try the model-specific restart. Do not conclude that the battery is irreparably dead solely because there is no immediate display. Apple and Samsung both describe situations in which a fully discharged watch will not power on until it has charged (Apple Support; Samsung Support).
The watch works only on one cable or dock
Use the working accessory only if it is confirmed for the exact model. A successful test points toward the other cable, adapter, dock, or outlet, but it does not authorize substituting a different watch’s charger. Replace the failed accessory with a model-compatible cable or dock.
The Tool Desk

Disconnect it if the heat is unusual, rapidly increasing, or accompanied by a damaged case, swelling, smell, or visible corrosion. Samsung advises disconnecting an overheating watch and letting it cool before charging again (Samsung Support). Do not continue charging a physically damaged device while trying additional button combinations.
The watch was exposed to liquid or has damaged contacts
Stop charging, let the area dry as directed by the manufacturer, and avoid inserting tools into the contacts. Corrosion, bent pins, a cracked rear surface, or a damaged cable calls for manufacturer service rather than home repair.
Choosing a replacement charger without making the problem worse
Buy a replacement only after confirming the make and model. Match the manufacturer’s specified cable, charging puck, dock, or cradle—not merely the connector shape or the watch’s appearance.
- Record the exact model and regional variant when the maker distinguishes them.
- Compare the replacement accessory with the model’s official support documentation.
- Use a seller that identifies compatibility for that exact model, not a listing that claims to fit every smartwatch.
- Keep the original accessory until the replacement proves that it charges the watch reliably.
Official guidance supports trying a replacement accessory in some cases, but none of the cited manufacturers describes a universal charger for all watches. If the model cannot be identified, ask the manufacturer’s support channel before purchasing.
When to stop troubleshooting and request service
Escalate to the manufacturer or its authorized service channel when any of these conditions applies:
- The watch, charger, or contacts show physical damage, corrosion, swelling, or unusual heat.
- The watch remains completely unresponsive after the correct charger, a known-good power source, clean and aligned contacts, the model’s charging interval, and the exact force-restart sequence.
- The watch repeatedly starts and shuts down, remains stuck on a logo, or charges only intermittently after a compatible accessory has been tested.
- You cannot identify a safe charger or the correct button sequence.
Tell support the exact model, what indicator appeared (if any), how long it was charged, which compatible power source and accessory were tested, whether the contacts were clean and dry, and which restart sequence you used. This prevents the same basic checks from being repeated and helps the service team distinguish an accessory issue from a watch issue.
Quick Recap
What not to do
- Do not use a random magnetic puck or dock because it physically attaches.
- Do not keep charging a watch that is overheating or visibly damaged.
- Do not pry open the case or attempt an unverified battery replacement.
- Do not bend charging pins or scrape contacts with metal tools.
- Do not perform a factory reset as the first response to a frozen screen.
- Do not mix button combinations or hold times from different brands and models.
A concise recovery checklist
- Identify the exact make and model.
- Connect the correct charger to a known-good outlet or computer power source.
- Align the watch and inspect, gently clean, and dry the contacts.
- Wait for the model’s charging interval; Apple cites up to 30 minutes for an indicator, while Samsung cites at least one hour for a completely discharged Galaxy Watch.
- Try another charger, cable, dock, or power source only when it is confirmed compatible with that model.
- Perform the model-specific force restart, such as Apple’s Side button plus Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, Samsung’s device-specific Home/Power plus Back sequence, or Garmin’s supported 30-second Approach recovery sequence.
- Stop immediately for overheating or damage, and contact manufacturer service when the watch remains unresponsive.
