What’s actually slowing this PC down?

If your Freely box was already set up, open Settings > Connection and select your Wi-Fi network again. Check that your router is online and that you have entered the right password. If the box connects but programmes will not play, check whether the problem affects other apps or devices, then work through the streaming and app checks below.
Reconnect the Freely box to Wi-Fi
- Check that your router is powered on and connected to the internet.
- On a box that has already been set up, open Settings > Connection and select your Wi-Fi network. Enter the password carefully if prompted. Menu names can vary by device, so consult the manufacturer’s manual if the steps differ.
- If you are setting up Freely for the first time, select your network during setup and enter its password. Keep the password handy; the setup flow varies by TV or streaming device. Freely’s connection instructions are at How do I connect my device to the internet? and its setup guidance is at Setting Up Freely.
If the box has an Ethernet/LAN port and the router is close enough, a wired cable is another option. Freely recommends a wired connection when available; it does not fix an internet outage or a Freely service problem. Check that both devices have the required ports and that a cable can reach the router before buying one.

Find out whether the fault is the box, Wi-Fi or broadband
- Try another app on the Freely box. If it also cannot access online content, the issue may be the box’s connection rather than Freely alone.
- Test internet access on a phone, tablet or computer connected to the same network. If several devices cannot get online, restart the router. Contact your broadband provider if the outage or weak connection continues.
- Check the box’s Wi-Fi signal and your broadband speed. Freely recommends at least 10 Mbps for viewing; this is the recommendation on Freely’s support pages checked in 2026, which do not state a publication date. HD needs more bandwidth than SD, so a marginal connection may cause buffering or pixelation.
Freely’s connection guidance covers network setup and speed, while its player-app troubleshooting explains how to distinguish an internet problem from an app issue.

If the box is online but Freely streams fail
- Check Freely’s updates and alerts for known problems, and write down the full error code. Freely says its error codes start with ETV; if the code has a different prefix, check with the device manufacturer.
- Check for device software updates and Freely’s software-update setting. Freely and player apps generally update automatically, but you can check or update them manually using the instructions for your device.
- Restart the TV or streaming device: turn it off with the remote, wait 30 seconds, then turn it on again. If that does not help, switch it off at the wall for about five minutes before restarting.
- If the problem persists, reinstall the Freely app or operator application using the device-specific instructions in Freely’s buffering, pixelation and slow start-up guidance. Treat a factory reset as a last resort: it can reset device settings, so follow the manufacturer’s instructions first.
If only one on-demand player app fails
If live viewing or other apps work but one player does not, check that app’s sign-in rather than treating it as a Wi-Fi failure. Freely’s examples include BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, 5 and U. Sign in again, and use that app or its website to reset a forgotten password. Check for app and device updates. If the player still fails while the network and other apps work, contact the player’s support team or the device manufacturer. See Freely’s Channel Player App Issue guidance.
