What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
First determine whether your Dell monitor is flickering, flashing a particular color, or showing a steady color cast. Those symptoms can have different causes. Check the video connection, then run the monitor’s built-in diagnostics using the instructions for your exact model. If the fault appears in that test, contact Dell Technical Support about repair options; if it does not, focus on the computer, cable, or graphics software.
Identify what the screen is doing
A changing image is different from an image that stays on but looks tinted or washed out. Note which symptom you see and when it began. If the problem followed a Windows or graphics-driver update, include that timing in your troubleshooting.

- Flickering: the whole image or parts of it repeatedly flash or change over time.
- Color flashing: one or more colors appear intermittently rather than as a steady, accurate image.
- Steady color cast: the image remains stable but looks persistently tinted or washed out.
If you can do so safely, check whether the symptom also appears with another input or source. This can help establish whether the problem follows the monitor or the computer.
Check the connection and selected input
Before buying a cable or changing software, make sure the video cable is firmly connected at both the monitor and computer, and confirm the monitor is set to the input you intend to use. Dell includes checking the video connection among its display troubleshooting steps: Dell display or video troubleshooting.

- Clear visuals. Fluid motion: A 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms MPRT deliver smooth, tear‑free motion across work, gaming, and streaming for clearer, more fluid viewing.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star* certification reduces harmful blue light while preserving stunning color quality without compromise. *TÜV Rheinland 3-star eye comfort certification.
- Wide viewing angle: Get consistent views across a wide 178° /178° viewing angle.
- In-Plane Switching (IPS): See excellent color accuracy and consistency across wide viewing angles with In-plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
Look for visible damage or an unreliable connection. Reseating the cable is a reasonable first check; a flashing symptom alone does not prove that the cable has failed. Consider a replacement only if inspection or connection problems point to the current cable, and match its connector to the ports on both the monitor and computer.
Run the Dell monitor’s built-in diagnostics
Dell’s integrated self-test or built-in diagnostics can help distinguish a monitor abnormality from a computer or video-card issue. The steps vary by model, so identify the monitor and follow its user guide rather than relying on a button sequence intended for another display. Dell’s diagnostic guidance covers abnormalities such as flickering and color fade: How to run diagnostics on a Dell monitor.

If the test looks normal
If the test does not reproduce the problem, continue with the computer, video connection, and graphics software. The diagnostic result does not identify a single cause, but it shifts the next checks away from a fault reproduced by the monitor itself.

For flickering, check Windows graphics software
On a Windows PC, Dell documents a keyboard shortcut that restarts the graphics driver: press Windows+Ctrl+Shift+B. The screen may flash briefly while the driver restarts; Dell says this brief flash is expected. See Dell’s monitor-flickering guidance.
If flickering began after a recent display-driver update, check whether Windows offers the option to roll back that driver. The option may not be available. Dell’s instructions for finding it are in its driver rollback guide.

For a steady color cast, check display settings
If the image is stable but looks consistently wrong, check the monitor’s color controls first. Windows also includes a display-calibration tool: search for Calibrate display color and follow the prompts to adjust gamma, brightness, contrast, and color balance. Dell discusses color symptoms and calibration in its flicker and color troubleshooting guidance.

Reset the monitor only with model-specific instructions
A factory reset through the monitor’s on-screen display may help with some display problems, but menu names and paths vary by model. Use the reset instructions in the user guide for your exact Dell monitor instead of assuming that another model’s menu path applies. Dell includes an on-screen-display reset among its troubleshooting options in its display or video troubleshooting guide.
