If your Fire TV Stick 4K won’t connect to Wi-Fi, start with Network Diagnostics, then restart the Stick, toggle Wi-Fi, and forget and rejoin the network. If the problem began during setup and your network is missing, refresh the list with Back. Save a factory reset for last: it erases the device’s settings and is not the first troubleshooting step.
First, check what is actually failing
On an “Unable to Connect” screen, choose Network Diagnostics. You can also open Settings > Network and press Play/Pause on the remote to open the tool. Follow the recommendation shown on screen. Amazon’s Network Status tool checks two links: Fire TV to router, and router to the internet. That distinction helps narrow the issue: a failure on the first link points to joining the local Wi-Fi network, while a failure on the second means the router may be connected but internet access is unavailable. Some compatible devices also show a speed test and advanced network information.

If the Stick is offline along with other devices, check whether the router or internet service is down before treating the Fire TV as the only cause. If the trouble affects only the Stick or one location, continue with the steps below.

Try these reversible steps in order. Test the connection after each one so you can tell whether it solved the problem.

- Restart the Fire TV Stick. Unplug its power, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect it. Use the Stick’s power connection rather than simply turning off the TV.
- Toggle Wi-Fi off and on. Open Settings > Network, select the Wi-Fi option to turn it off, then turn it back on.
- Forget and rejoin the network. In Settings > Network, select the saved network, press Menu and then Select/OK to forget it. Choose the network again and enter its password carefully.
- Restart the modem and router. Unplug both for one minute. Reconnect the modem first and allow about one minute for its internet connection to return; then reconnect the router and allow about one minute for it to restart.
- Check distance and coverage. If practical, move the Stick and router closer together and try again. A connection that fails only in one room may point to weak coverage there rather than a problem with the Stick.
Amazon’s Fire TV Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance places factory reset after diagnostics and restart steps. Use it only if these simpler fixes do not work.
If the Wi-Fi network is missing during setup
Have the correct Wi-Fi name and password ready. If your network does not appear in the setup list, press Back on the remote to refresh the list, then try connecting again. Amazon’s setup troubleshooting steps recommend restarting the Fire TV by unplugging its power adapter for one minute, then restarting the modem and router in sequence: modem first, wait for its internet connection, then router.

The Fire TV Stick 4K has multiple generations. Amazon has separate setup pages for the 2nd-generation Fire TV Stick 4K and 3rd-generation Fire TV Stick 4K, and both direct users with connection trouble to the setup troubleshooting guidance. Check the exact model when following device-specific instructions or considering accessories.
When to consider Ethernet, mesh, or a router change
Amazon suggests Ethernet as an option if Wi-Fi setup still fails, but some Fire TV devices require an Ethernet adapter. Compatibility with every Fire TV Stick 4K generation is not established by the cited setup guidance, so verify that an adapter supports your exact model before buying. A wired connection is an alternative to test, not a guaranteed fix for a Wi-Fi problem.

- Getting set up is easy – Plug in and connect to Wi-Fi for smooth streaming.
For persistent weak coverage, Amazon suggests mesh routers for larger homes. For devices that support Wi-Fi 6E, Amazon says a Wi-Fi 6E-or-higher-capable router can provide the best performance; this is conditional advice, not a requirement for basic troubleshooting. Amazon also recommends using the same network name (SSID) for 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands so a supported Fire TV can use an available band according to signal strength. These options make most sense when coverage is a wider home issue, not as the first response to a single failed connection.

If diagnostics, restarts, Wi-Fi reconnection, router checks, and setup refresh have not helped, a factory reset is the last resort. It returns the Fire TV to its initial setup state, so you will need to set it up again and reconnect to Wi-Fi.
