First determine whether the problem is the Wi-Fi connection or app access in a child profile. Check the tablet’s connection and test another device on the same network; if Wi-Fi works but a child cannot download an app, check the child profile’s Store setting and content approval in Parent Dashboard.
Identify whether Wi-Fi or child-profile access is failing
Check whether the tablet can see your Wi-Fi network, whether it reports a password or connection error, and whether another device can connect to that same network. Also note whether the tablet is in an adult profile or a child profile.

If Wi-Fi works in the adult profile but an app is unavailable to a child, start with that child profile’s Store and content settings rather than changing the router. Amazon documents network troubleshooting separately from child-profile content management: Wi-Fi connection issues and child-profile content.

Fix a Fire Kids tablet that will not connect to Wi-Fi
Try these checks in order, starting with the easiest to reverse. Amazon’s general Fire tablet guidance covers these steps, but menu labels can differ by generation; consult the instructions for your exact model if a setting is missing.

- Check basic wireless settings. Turn off Airplane mode, confirm the Wi-Fi network name, and re-enter its password carefully.
- Check the network and signal. See whether another device can use the same Wi-Fi. Move the tablet closer to the router and away from nearby sources of wireless interference such as microwaves and baby monitors. If practical, temporarily disconnect other devices to free bandwidth.
- Restart the tablet and network equipment. Restart the tablet, then reboot the modem and router. Wait two minutes before trying to connect again.
- Add a hidden network manually. Choose Add Network, enter the network name and password, then select Advanced > hidden network > Yes.
- Reset saved network settings. Go to Settings > Connected Devices > Network Settings Reset, then reconnect to Wi-Fi.
- Check for a software update. Use the software update instructions for your specific Fire tablet model: Fire tablet software updates.
- Test a smartphone hotspot. If the tablet connects to the hotspot, Amazon says, “If this works, the issue is with your network, not your tablet.” If multiple devices cannot connect to your home network, contact your internet service provider.
- Consider a factory reset only as a last resort. It erases the tablet’s setup. Check the device-specific reset instructions and understand the consequences before proceeding; Amazon places this step at the end of its Wi-Fi troubleshooting sequence.

First confirm that the tablet has working internet access. Then review the child profile’s Store access and the app’s content approval in Parent Dashboard. Amazon says Store can be enabled in a profile’s settings, and a child can request store titles for approval. After approval, the child can download the titles and in-app purchases.
- Open Amazon Kids Parent Dashboard in a browser or the Parent Dashboard app.
- Select the child’s profile and review its Store setting.
- Check the profile’s available content and any pending requests. You can add eligible content from Amazon purchases or Kids+ subscription content.
See Amazon’s instructions for adding content to a child profile and managing a child’s Store access. A Kids+ subscription is one possible source of profile content, not a requirement for every app.
Check adult-profile parental controls separately
Adult-profile Parental Controls and child-profile settings are different controls. Amazon says adult-profile Parental Controls can restrict wireless connectivity and downloading content. Review them if restrictions were enabled on the adult profile. For children under 13, Amazon directs families to use child profiles for a kid-friendly experience.
Changing Store access or approving content can address a child-profile download restriction, but it cannot repair a failed Wi-Fi connection.
If the download still fails
If Wi-Fi works and the child profile is allowed to use the Store, note the exact error message and the tablet’s model or generation before trying additional fixes. Amazon’s general guidance does not cover every Appstore error, account eligibility issue, or service outage, so the message and model are important to diagnosing the next step.
