Start by identifying whether your Dell XPS 13 has Wi-Fi turned off, cannot find networks, cannot join one network, or connects without internet. Then work from reversible checks toward model-specific drivers and hardware diagnostics. Because XPS 13 generations can use different wireless hardware, get drivers and BIOS updates through Dell Support using your Service Tag or exact model.
First, identify what is failing
“Won’t connect” can describe several different problems. Check whether other devices can join the same Wi-Fi network and reach the internet. If possible, try the XPS 13 on another known-working network.

- No networks appear: Check Airplane mode, the separate Wi-Fi switch, adapter detection, and the wireless driver.
- Networks appear, but the XPS 13 cannot join one: Verify the network name and password, then test another network to distinguish a laptop issue from a router or network issue.
- The laptop joins Wi-Fi, but websites do not load: Check whether other devices have internet access. If they do, investigate Windows network settings or software; if they do not, the router or internet service may be the cause.
Dell’s general Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide covers Windows 10 and 11 but is not specific to one XPS 13 generation.

Try the low-risk fixes first
- Turn Wi-Fi on separately from Airplane mode. In Windows, open Settings > Network & internet and check both controls. Turning Airplane mode off does not automatically enable Wi-Fi.
- Restart the XPS 13 and router. Restart the laptop, then power-cycle the router using its manufacturer’s instructions. Confirm the network name and password before reconnecting.
- Forget and rejoin the network. In Windows, open Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks, select the affected network, choose Forget, and connect again by entering its password.
- Run a troubleshooter. Use the Windows network troubleshooter or Dell SupportAssist Wi-Fi troubleshooter if it is available on your system. Dell includes these among its basic troubleshooting steps.
- Consider recent software changes. If the problem began after installing or updating a VPN, security tool, or network-management app, note that change. Such software can interfere with connections; do not remove it without considering its purpose and any work or security requirements.
Install the correct Dell wireless driver and BIOS
If basic checks do not help, go to Dell Support and identify the laptop with its Service Tag or exact model. Select the Windows version installed on the XPS 13, then check the available wireless-network driver and BIOS updates. Do not assume that a driver for another XPS 13 generation—or a generic Intel or Qualcomm driver—is appropriate for your system.

Driver choice is model-specific. For example, Dell’s XPS 13 9320 re-imaging guide lists WLAN and Bluetooth drivers for that model family; it does not establish which adapter is installed in every XPS 13.
If the laptop is offline, Dell recommends connecting it to the router with an Ethernet cable or downloading the update on another device and transferring the file to the XPS 13 on a USB flash drive. A USB-C-to-Ethernet adapter may be needed if the exact laptop’s ports do not accept the cable directly; check compatibility with your model. This is a way to get online for downloads, not a repair for Wi-Fi itself.

Reinstall the existing wireless driver when needed
Windows may reinstall the existing wireless driver after you uninstall the adapter in Device Manager and restart the computer. Dell warns that saved Wi-Fi networks may be removed during this process. If following Dell’s offline reinstall procedure, do not select the option to remove the driver package: without internet access, that could leave Windows unable to reinstall it automatically. See Dell’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting instructions before proceeding.

If Wi-Fi is missing from Windows or its switch cannot be enabled, check that wireless networking is enabled in BIOS/UEFI. Dell’s general instructions describe pressing F2 at the Dell logo, opening Connection settings, and verifying that WLAN is enabled. Menu names and locations can vary; use the manual for your exact XPS 13 if they differ.

You can also run Dell’s preboot diagnostics: restart, press F12 at the Dell logo, open Diagnostics, and select the network test if it is offered. Follow the on-screen prompts. A passing test points you back toward software, driver, Windows settings, or router checks; a failed wireless hardware test may indicate that the adapter needs service or replacement. A symptom alone is not enough to conclude that hardware has failed.
Use advanced network changes only if the problem persists
Dell’s advanced troubleshooting includes adapter power settings, network reset, DNS testing, restarting WLAN AutoConfig, a clean boot, and generating a wireless network report. These checks can affect saved connections or other network behavior, so make one change at a time and note the original setting before changing it.

- Network reset: Treat this as a later step because Windows may remove and reinstall network adapters and reset related settings.
- DNS testing: Consider it only when the laptop connects but name lookups or websites fail. A DNS change is not a first-line fix for an adapter that is missing or cannot join Wi-Fi.
- IPv6: Dell describes disabling IPv6 as a diagnostic test, not a general fix, and says it should generally remain enabled for optimal network functionality. If a temporary test does not isolate the issue, restore IPv6.
- Clean boot or WLAN AutoConfig: Use Dell’s instructions for the installed Windows version if you suspect a software conflict or a wireless service problem.
For these procedures, follow Dell’s current advanced Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance and avoid changing several settings at once.

If other devices also cannot access the same network, contact the internet provider or the person managing the router. If the XPS 13 cannot see any Wi-Fi networks across multiple locations, the adapter is absent from Windows, or Dell’s preboot test reports a hardware failure, contact Dell support or a qualified repair provider with the Service Tag and diagnostic result. The appropriate driver, repair route, and service options depend on the exact model and your region.
