Start with the headset’s mute control and detachable boom, then select and test the Corsair microphone in Windows before changing Discord or reinstalling software.
Identify your HS60 variant first
“HS60” covers models that do not use the same connection or software path. The HS60 Haptic is a USB headset. The HS60, HS60 Pro Surround and related Surround versions use a 3.5 mm analog connection, with a USB surround adapter available for features that require USB. That distinction determines whether iCUE should see the headset.

| Variant or connection | Connection | Should iCUE detect it? | Important implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| HS60 Haptic | USB | Compatible USB-connected hardware can appear in iCUE | Use a direct USB connection; a rear motherboard port is recommended for maximum power. |
| HS60 Pro Surround/Surround through 3.5 mm | Analog 3.5 mm | No; iCUE does not detect the analog headset connection | Use the USB surround adapter when you need iCUE features. |
| Any model using a detachable boom | Model-dependent | Software cannot compensate for a loose or damaged boom plug | Remove and firmly reinsert the microphone before troubleshooting Windows. |
Every HS60 setup still depends on Windows choosing the correct recording device. The microphone can work in Windows while Discord or a game listens to a different input.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →1. Check mute, boom placement and the plug
- Press the headset’s hardware mute control once, then speak and watch for an input response. If your version has an inline control, check its mute position too.
- Unplug the detachable boom from the headset. Inspect the connector for bent parts, debris or visible damage, then push the boom straight in until it is fully seated.
- On an HS60 Pro Surround, aim the unidirectional boom directly toward your mouth. Speaking behind or far to the side of the capsule can produce very low input even when the microphone is functioning.
- Turn the headset volume control up enough to monitor other audio, but remember that the volume wheel does not itself unmute the microphone.
Do not force the boom or twist the connector. If the plug is loose in the socket or the cable is visibly split, record that observation for the hardware decision later.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Connect the correct way for your model
HS60 Haptic USB setup
- Attach the microphone securely.
- Connect the headset directly to a USB port on the PC. A rear motherboard USB port is Corsair’s preferred choice when available because it can provide more consistent power than some front-panel hubs.
- Disconnect other USB audio devices temporarily so Windows has fewer similarly named inputs to select.
- Open iCUE. If the headset is listed, check whether a firmware update is offered and apply it according to the program’s prompts. Do not unplug the headset during a firmware operation.
Analog HS60 Pro Surround or Surround setup
- Seat the microphone and connect the headset’s 3.5 mm plug to the correct combined headset jack, or to the appropriate splitter and jacks if your computer requires separate headphone and microphone ports.
- If you want surround-adapter or iCUE-related functions, connect the USB surround adapter as well.
- Do not use the absence of an analog HS60 entry in iCUE as evidence of failure. Corsair says iCUE can detect headsets that connect through USB; it does not detect the analog headset connection by itself.
3. Select and test the microphone in Windows
Windows and an individual application can use different recording devices. Test at the operating-system level before changing Discord.
- Search Windows for Sound Settings and open it.
- Under Input, select the Corsair microphone. The label may include HS60, Headset Microphone, USB Audio Device or a similar name, depending on the variant and adapter.
- Open Device Properties. Confirm that the input volume is not set to zero or muted.
- Use Start Test and speak at a normal distance. Stop the test and check whether Windows records a signal.
- If Windows offers several microphones, disconnect or disable the ones you are not using temporarily, then repeat the test.
On Windows 11, microphone access is also controlled under Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. Make sure microphone access and access for desktop apps are enabled. On Windows 10, the equivalent controls are under Settings > Privacy > Microphone. These permissions matter when Windows detects hardware but an app receives silence.
4. Set the input separately in Discord or a game
Discord, streaming software and games often retain their own input choice instead of following the Windows default.

- Open the application’s voice or audio settings.
- Set Input Device or Microphone explicitly to the Corsair/HS60 microphone rather than leaving a stale “Default” selection.
- Speak while watching the application’s input meter. If Windows’ Start Test responds but the application meter does not, the problem is inside that application’s device selection, permission or voice-activation settings.
- In Discord, open User Settings > Voice & Video, choose the HS60 microphone under Input Device, and use the mic test. If Discord settings appear stuck, select Reset Voice Settings, then choose the Corsair input again.
Check that push-to-talk is not enabled accidentally and that an input threshold is not high enough to suppress normal speech. These settings affect transmission, not whether Windows can see the microphone.
5. Correct low, quiet or distorted input
Use Mic Boost when the model supports it
For a USB-connected, iCUE-compatible model, select the headset in iCUE, open Device Settings, and adjust Mic Boost in small steps. Test after each change. Excessive boost can make background noise or clipping more noticeable, so use the lowest setting that produces a clear level.
Try the documented Windows format
Open the microphone’s advanced properties from Windows Sound settings and set the format to DVD Quality if that option is available. Apply the change and run Start Test again. If the format change makes the signal worse, return to the previous format.

Check placement and physical obstruction
Keep the boom aimed toward your mouth and avoid covering its opening with clothing or a hand. A unidirectional microphone is designed to favor sound from the front; turning it away can resemble a software fault.

6. Repair a problem that began after Windows or iCUE updated
If the microphone worked until an update, use Windows’ built-in sound troubleshooter first. Search for Find and fix sound problems or open the Sound settings troubleshooter, select the recording device, and follow the suggested repair. Restart and repeat the Windows input test.
If the troubleshooter does not help, Corsair documents this clean reinstall sequence:

- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Audio inputs and outputs.
- Uninstall the Corsair headset or microphone entry. If Windows offers a checkbox to remove the driver package, select it only when you are certain the entry belongs to the HS60.
- Unplug the headset or USB adapter.
- Restart the PC.
- Uninstall iCUE from Windows’ installed-apps list.
- Restart again.
- Install the latest iCUE release compatible with your Windows version.
- Restart once more, reconnect the HS60, allow Windows to rediscover it, and test with iCUE running.
During this process, close other headset-control utilities. Two programs attempting to control the same USB audio device can leave the wrong input selected or prevent firmware controls from loading.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Try another compatible USB port, preferably a rear motherboard port for the Haptic model.
- For an analog model, test the 3.5 mm connection and the USB surround adapter separately when both paths are supported.
- Connect the headset to another computer, select its microphone in that computer’s Sound Settings, and run a recording test.
- Inspect the detachable boom, its plug and the USB adapter for cracks, bent contacts or intermittent connection when the cable moves.
If the microphone fails the Windows test on multiple known-good ports or computers, while other microphones work normally on those systems, a physical fault is more likely than an application setting. If it works on another computer, return to Windows permissions, input selection and the driver sequence on the original PC.

8. Replace a damaged detachable microphone
A broken or missing boom cannot be repaired by Mic Boost, Discord settings or iCUE. Search for a Corsair HS60 replacement microphone and match the exact variant before ordering. Haptic, Surround and Pro Surround parts may not be interchangeable even when the product names look similar.
Use Corsair’s Spare Parts Request route or customer-support channel when you need confirmation of compatibility. Provide the exact model name, the connection method you use and a description or photograph of the damaged connector. A replacement is appropriate only after checking that the headset socket and adapter are otherwise intact.
